summer and a resort near the water
dan spent the nights tending

selling stoned kids candy bars
making change for bored retirees

a life of leisure,
a life of sneaking bar food and drinking
clandestinely

like one of those i found myself books
by a minor american novelist

then a wife
a pregnancy scare
and a one bedroom apartment in the big city

the novels never end like this

ase

Some novels do end this way...except usually the pregnancy scare precedes the marriage.

No it does not suck.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like it. But why does poetry have to be sad?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

'cause life is.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it is though, certainly not mostly.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the pinefox, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like the poem, Anthony.

But why does it end in 'ase?'

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(ase = anthony's intials I think!)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

that would be it.

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

But what about Dan?????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it. If you are looking for edits, I'd start with stanza 3.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 16 January 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That was beautiful. It is the best one yet! Makes me think of what my life probably would have been like if I was straight.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 16 January 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

arthur, where is my email.

byron-why stanza three?

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 16 January 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I just sent it! Of course it's late, you know me.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 16 January 2003 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)
