Art and Language at Lission in London

I plan to go, on Tim H's recommendation, as you know.

I loved it to pieces. A few thoughts: (a) it is the most visually arresting stuff I've seen A&L produce (b) unusually repetitive (e.g. what seems like the same work hung up several times in the same room) (c) it predictably resists meaning but does it in such a way as you feel like they're making a point but you don't really mind what it is... the whole show seems to revolve around various kinds of obscurity (d) I'm a sucker for the odd bit of smut, and this show does a kind of Chapmans-in-reverse thing... taking mucky stories and de-smutting them with semi-homophones (e) still lots of text but I didn't feel I had to get to grips with all of it. Felt quite happy that I was missing out on lots of potential meanings / thoughts because there seemed to be plenty sloshing about. (f) Not really for anyone who likes their art representational (although there are a few piccies) (g) It closes after this weekend and I'm going back for another look before it does so.

Mark, is it "Kangaroo"? I had that and sold it, and now I wish I hadn't because of the Jackson Pollock thing. Oh well.

Anthony, there's a big mucky story and where there are rude / steamy bits they've used different but similar-sounding words. Trying to think of a real example but can't. You might find a sentence like "she followed his junk" in there, for example. I found it funny and engaging.
