I have about 15 pairs in all I guess (if you count trainers, boots and wellies)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*beams*

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I have over two hundred pairs - not including trainers, walking shoes, hiking boots, wellies and other 'utility' wear.

I have beautiful feet and they deserve to be adorned.

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

4. 1 pair of brown leather docs, 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of black mules with a very short heel (this is my idea of a fancy shoe), 1 pair of running shoes.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably about 30, but only because I've never gotten rid of any since high school. I probably wear about 5 of them on a regular basis.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's see...

One pair of general purpose suede shoes
One pair of flip flops
One pair of dress shoes
One pair of running shoes

So four, I guess.

Girolamo Savonarola, Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

1 Pair shoes for everyday
3 pairs for best (2 inherited from my grandad)
1 pair wellies
1 Pair leather boots
1 pair Ski-Mountaineering Boots
1 Pair Birkenstocks

Ed (dali), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't generally discuss the number of shoes that I have as people think I'm some kind of *freak*. Imagine...

However, one friend on discovering my stash dared me to wear a different pair of shoes every day for two months. I did. And was perfectly co-ordinated EVERY DAY.

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Old pair of Airwalk (only for the park)
2. Another old pair of Airwalk (also only for the park)
3. Some Reebok Classics (under the stairs because I don't especially like them)
4. Pair of Vans
5. Doc Marten's shoes
6. Doc Marten's 8 hole style (newest)

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

1 Pair shoes for everyday
3 pairs for best (2 inherited from my grandad)
1 pair wellies
1 Pair leather boots
1 pair Ski-Mountaineering Boots
1 Pair Birkenstocks

This could so only be Ed's list.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I meant 'do you own?'

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Or Shakleton's.

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

4 pairs of smart shoes for work/going out.
1 pair of sandals (bought on holiday).
2 pairs of casual leather boots.
1 pair of trainers.
1 pair of trainers (exclusively for use in the gym).
1 pair of slippers (to go with my smoking jacket and pipe for the evenings).
1 pair of casual shoes.

11 pairs in total. Sadly I no longer own any flip-flops or wellies.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

1 pair of British Knights, club soiled but comfy skate type shoes.

1 pair of old totally fucked and blackened converse plain white trainer type shows.

1 pair of white acupuncture spaceman style shoes, nice but look stupid with most jeans/trousers i own.

1 pair of BRAND NEW white old skool shelltoe adidas with blue reflective stripes (not tacky), I love them.

1 pair of black formal shoes.

1 pair of sand coloured hippy shoes which i havent worn in ages

1 pair of acupunture summer type trainers which i got as a present and only have worn on holidays

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought you said 'stiletto adidas' and I was on my way round!

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Two pairs black shoes to wear with suits.
Two pairs white trainers to wear with jeans.
(Actually, both of the above really amount to one pair each, plus a fairly tatty backup pair that I've not thrown away yet.)
One pair of slippers.
One pair Doc Martens, which I haven't worn in ages.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

erik, Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, shoes. I'm a man. These are my shoes:

2 pair moderately-cheap black leather Oxford-type dress shoes, neither in good condition
1 pair absolutely wonderful tan-brown bruno magli 60% off Oxford-type dress shoes, not in good condition even after 1st resoling
1 pair black rubber-soled extremely comfortable utilitarian-sort-of Oxford-type dress shoes
1 pair similar to the above, but they don't fit and i shouldn't have bought them
1 pair beautiful weatherproof more-manly-and-trendy-than-most of my shoes black shoes that could be used for work or otherwise but are at least 1 size too large and i shouldn't have bought them
1 pair black monk-strap "chukka" type boots that a male friend of mine in college liked to pet when they were new and have recently been the subject of ridicule by a female friend. About to lose their utility. Until recently, these were the shoes I wore most often when not at work.
1 pair raichle hiking boots, owned for almost 15 years probably, encrusted with dirt, falling apart, and walked on to almost 14K feet in Colorado and across forests and deserts and backroads in the following states: NY, WA, AZ, CA, UT, VA and VT
1 pair worn black leather slippers of extreme comfort value and butt of typical-lawyer jokes
1 pair enormous chunky flipflops with ripped-up thread uppers with Diesel logos that probably look completely ridiculous on me, frequently worn during summer, but I've never seen another pair of them, which is cool
2 pair Teva sandals, one of them with 5.10 sticky rubber soles, actually used for their intended purpose on river rafting trips
1 pair smelly dirty running shoes, worn about once a year
1 pair Converse one-star sneakers, not in good shape, not worn since college
1 pair fake-Converse platform sneakers, worn maybe 5 times in college and probably looked unbelievably ridiculous

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

One pair.

, Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

two pairs of shoes and nothing else.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

own 8 pairs. only wear two pairs on a regular basis: super-beat-up new balance at work, campers when not at work.

ron (ron), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you get cold, Juilo?

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 25 January 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

no. I have lovely wooly socks. i have a few pairs of that.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 25 January 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What's wrong with my sensible and practical shoe selection?

Ed (dali), Saturday, 25 January 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My Nike Air shoes are from 97 and have started to leak and I wear them all year so I might have to buy new shoes this year.

, Saturday, 25 January 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

1 pair black shiny shoes.
1 pair scuffed old boots with buckle.
1 pair crap H+M shoes that have no back and that fall off and get left behind if you actually try to walk in them.
1 pair of football slippers that play the Match Of The Day theme tune. A xmas present. I don't even like football that much anymore.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 25 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

5 pr various docs. (10 hole, 20 hole, 12 hole, 10 hole Union Jack, maryjanes)
1 pr Prada maryjanes
1 pr dress loafers with stacked heel
1 pr sandals
2 pr fancy shoes

all are black!

there are maybe three other pair that I should throw out because they're falling apart/don't fit. The boyfriend thinks this is so excessive.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 25 January 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

1/2

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 25 January 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

1 pair Birkenstocks
1 pair dress sandals
1 pair tennis shoes
2 pairs hiking boots
1 pair sexy boots
1 pair fuzzy slippers
1 pair low-heeled "for a wedding/funeral" dress shoes
1 pair suede 6" "fuck me" heels (to be worn only in bed, not to walk in)

And all are black. Go figure.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 25 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

A. Nairn, you only own one shoe?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 25 January 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a Mariah Carey at home thing on MTV and she showed us a room filled with her shoes. That really turned me on.

Guerillas On The Piss, Saturday, 25 January 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"A. Nairn, you only own one shoe?"

Actually it is one pair, but there are big holes in each of the two shoes so it's more like 2/4.

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 26 January 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

seven, just counted. a pair of blueblack fake Docs, a pair of platformed maryjanes, a pair of flat black shoes, a pair of silvery holgraphic lace-ups, a pair of black kneehigh lace-up combattish boots, another pair of flat black sensible shoes, and a pair of white kneehigh PVC platforms.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 26 January 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

2 pairs kneehigh lace-up boots, 1 pair silver glitter platforms, 1 pair platform maryjanes, 1 pair black-and-white adidas. what do i wear most often? the adidas.

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 26 January 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I own three pairs. 1 pair puddle-like greeny coloured flat shoes, 1 pair black chuck taylors, 1 pair brown lace up school shoes. God, I really do have a boring shoe collection.

Livvie, Sunday, 26 January 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

*giant grey & black acupuncture runners
*sandals that fasten with seatbelt clip thing
*black suede slouchy boots
*doc martens for work
*very plain black saba marge simpson type shoes
*blue chuck taylors
*indian toe sandals with the toe bit missing
*tan leather stilettos with little square cutouts that cost $1
*brown mesh stilettos that are way too high to ever wear again
*black bicycle runners

minna (minna), Sunday, 26 January 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have approx. 30 pairs, but tend to wear about five regularly:

- maroon Mary Jane-style ones w/a slight heel
- black Doc Martens
- black knee-high leather boots w/heel
- maroon calf-high leather boots
- black loafers w/a quilted neoprene top

I also have an amazing pair of Marc Jacobs shoes -- red suede, pointy-toe, with a teensy black leather strap across the top. If only they were more comfortable to walk in, I might wear them out more!

Jen (nstop), Sunday, 26 January 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn...I have approximately 40 pairs (including boots and sneakers). At least 30 of these are black. And I'm addicted to maryjane-type shoes -- I have at least 10 pairs, in different colors and heel heights.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 26 January 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

j.lu is fun to go shopping with. = strictly conjecture. But honest opinion.

I have a bunch of black shoes too, but my faves at the moment are some gray suede w/ black rubber Teva hikers that are technically one size too big but comfortable as hell.

I also have some black patent leather running shoes that I designed myself.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 26 January 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay.I might make you guys laugh on this one...REMEMBER those birkenstoks (You know, those weird looking sandals that people say only dirty men and old hippies wear)from long ago? in the early 90's...
Well I bought me a pair of those from a drugstore (so they weren't even the real thing, cost about $5.99 *black of course*) and that was ,let me see,1994,I think? It's been the only pair I have had since, and they are all worn out in the bottom,it's like walking on cut-out pieces of cardboard on the pavement....But I just own one and use one pair (same pair)....Don't feel sorry for me, I have bought at least 10 pairs of nice sneakers, like Nikes, and Reebox, but whenever I get them, I get them in pink, and then I see my mom wants them,or someone wants them, and I end up dying it of course and giving them away to said person (they want them alright, just not in pink)
Ha!

becky lucas (becky_lucas), Sunday, 26 January 2003 06:45 (twenty-two years ago)

one pair light blue Pumas, one pair red Converse All Stars, one pair grey suede slip-ons with huge rounded toes and big buckles. I wear them all equally now that I have a long black suitcoat and need something that looks good with them; before I usually just wore the sneakers

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 26 January 2003 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I have about 2 million pairs of shoes, approx.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 26 January 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

...by the way, which is nothing compared to the shoe collection that my company's owner's wife has. I mean, she's like Imelda Marcos. She put them in clear plastic boxes WITH POLAROIDS OF THE SHOES TAPED TO THE FRONT so she never has to open a box, she's got so much shoes. She wears everything she owns once and never again. She is my hero.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 26 January 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Lesee. Aside from the dress shoes I pull out at funerals (one too many times this year) and stodgy Jewish weddings, I got a nice pair of red-and-black Steve Maddens, some big old boots (I forget the brand), and some years-old timerblands whose laces come untied every five minutes no matter how tightly I tie them. So four. Unless you count them slippers.

Hey, can anyone recommend a real nice/affordable shoe store in Chicago?

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 26 January 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the black lacoste ones HURT

erik, Sunday, 26 January 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm. Of the ones I actually wear:

Green Pumas with velcro, light blue flash
Beige Pumas, burgundy flash
Adidas shell toes, dark blue, with stripes near the toe
Knackered old Nike Airs for comfort
Adidas Samba (black), though not the kind with the toe-guard and saw-tooth bottoms, but with a brown sole. Bought in canada in 1995 and still wonderfully comfy
Beige and brown two-types-of-suede camper-style shoes with really good toe shape, bought in Denver last November

Also, three pairs of wedding/funeral/interview shoes (1 pair brogues, 2 pairs square-toed slip on, all black)

And one pair of incredibly expensive Air Maxs which I bought ONE SIZE TOO SMALL and have never really been able to wear, grr. Offers over £100 gratefully received!

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 26 January 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

1 pair of 'shoe' shoes which I hate.

4 pairs of trainers/daps/sneakers, 3 of which are identical.

mei (mei), Sunday, 26 January 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

20 - favourites include strappy gold stiletos, fuschia pink peep toe cone heels, slouchy black suede boots, five inch platform cork wedgies and slippers with black marabou fluff and diamante..

Anna (Anna), Sunday, 26 January 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I own one woman, one man, and two shoes.

Momus (Momus), Sunday, 26 January 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

4...

1 pair of steel-toed boots (Caterpillar, like the construction equip)

1 pair of Vans "skate" shoes (though I don't skate)

1 pair of high-fallutin' shiny leather shoes (for special occasions)

1 pair of Air Jesuses (aka leather sandals...for the summer)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Sunday, 26 January 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

My favorite shoe store is called (no kidding) "Larry's Comfort Shoes." And all of the salesmen (I've never seen a female working there) seem to have foot fetishes, so you get foot massages and so forth while shoe shopping. They also have no dificulty in telling you just what shoes look best with your body shape, and so-forth, an they really make sure that the shoes fit (through lots of touching/feeling). It's quite blissful (and, unfortunately, a wee bit pricey).

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 26 January 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

*Comfort* Shoes??

Whatever next?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 26 January 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

*laughing* Actually, they're basically orthotic shoes, for people who have feet problems - but they're beautiful and handcrafted and it is soooo nice getting footrubs from those men!

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 26 January 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I just went and found my old boots at home. They are waterproof, and very light. I could where these for a long while. My feet fit nicly in them.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

My wife has something on the order of 70 pairs of shoes that are too small for her feet.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

my wife has something in the region of 30 pairs of shoes of which about 7 get worn. i own a pair of docs.

also haven't we done this before, around the time of the "how many pairs of trousers/bras/etc do you own" discussion.

also also i am the only person who thinks that if they had been female soldiers raiding the marcos' mansion no mention would have been made about the shoes...

also also also cabbage to thread...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 30 January 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

one. and three pairs of boots. I need more.

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 30 January 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)
