What do you end them with?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i generally use "Regards" followed by the person's name for all business email and "bye for now" or "see you" for friends.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it depends, its not the same for all of them

one of the following

1. PLUR!
2. x
3. see ya
4. cold rock a party...till the a.m

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"Cheers," or "Thanks," usually.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Lemme me think:

Take it easy, hope all is cool, thanks

That sorta thing.

Anyway, have fun y'all, I'm off out now!

c ya

james

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

or

5. gareth

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, usually 'gareth'.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

no-ones mentioned sig files yet, but don't you just hate it when, rather than the useful stuff like address, tel. no., fax ect ect, ppl use sig files for sending out some gratuitous and completely useless old proverb?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, or some terrible motto they have thought of themselves (with an ASC-II chickenbear head)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember one academic from Australia did an ASCII map of Australia! like, ooh wow, *that's* what it looks like!

Good thing he wasn't from Norway. Those fjords are tricky....

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, there are a couple of people in one of the other egroups I'm in who have that kind of .sig. It gets wearing pretty damn quickly.

I use 'Cheers' except to girlfriends.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes 'cheers for that love!' would be gauche.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Kisses tend to be the last thing on my emails. The more depnding on how much I like you.

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I use lots of X's to suggest kisses when signing off to girlfriends.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

(but they just assume you are classifying it for the BBFC)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Usually "Hope yer groovy, Kate" which gets endlessly misunderstood.

If I really like you, you get "XO, K" or "XOXO, K" or something like "truckloads of love and grooviness!!! XOXO Kate 'I worship the ground you walk on' St.Claire"

kate, Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ciao", "Seeya" or "SeeSoon". On seeing that written down here I am a beginning to review my policy.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

xx
caitlin

or, if it's someone i like:

love
xx
caitlin

I also have a .sig below that, but that just has my URL and an out-of-context quote which I should probably change.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"audi 5000"

zemko (bob), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Try utilising a phrase from the world of popular song to end with:
eg:
"It's all gravy!"
or
"See you at the crossroads!"
or even
"Blah blah, b-blah blahblahblah blah!"

DavidM (DavidM), Saturday, 1 February 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

N is obnoxious!

I normally sign off "take care".

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 1 February 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I always cry at endings.

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 1 February 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

What have I done now?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You stole Christmas

I usually end emails with "anyway, no more news really, hope you're well, Ronan"

I always have song lyrics in the signature part of the emails, I try to change regularly enough.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 1 February 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ususally its something like

''take care,

Julio''

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 1 February 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

'love,
richard
xx'

even if I don't love you and wouldn't ever kiss you.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i use "love," a lot. for people i'm close to. or nothing. what about "ttyl"...is that annoying?

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's incomprehensible!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yes - something something you later?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

or ta ta something something?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually use "fuck off loser" or "take care", depending on my mood.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

bahaha--nicole.

ttyl is talk to you later.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i usually use 'yeah!!' or 'word'

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 1 February 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

it's different depending on my mood and the person i'm writing to. i usually use take care, lots of love, talk soon, later, that's it for now, or just my name. i have cheesy stuff i reserve for my boyfriend, but i'm not going to say what it is.

sand.y, Saturday, 1 February 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's a business email I would usually sign of with:

"All my love,

Lara xx"

Lara (Lara), Saturday, 1 February 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Cyclops have you done the dishes, and put the trash yet?

Professor X

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 1 February 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

put out, even?

(oh, can I start my lame joke again?)

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 1 February 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this a tennis joke?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

xo,thnx,bye,see you or nothing.

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 1 February 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

the end.

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 1 February 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh really? X's can go without O's in England? If they don't have O's here it just looks like Malcolm X, but that's cool,. X's with O's is a bit junior high schoolish, straight X's seem strong and sinister!

XXX

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 1 February 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Mel
x

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 1 February 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

You get taught to put 'o's in? I thought it was just some cutesy affectation. An 'o' is weird.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 February 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

We don't get taught -- that's just the way it's done! No 'o' is weird -- but cool. Where are the kisses if there are no 'o's? It's like you don't really want to kiss us so you leave out the 'o'.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 2 February 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I assumed the 'o' was supposed to be a chaste hug or something. A x is just a x.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 February 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i thought x=kiss o=hug. I end emails Shangri-Las stlye with luv.

ducklignmonster, Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

well in that case i shall now add an o!

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i tht it wz the puckered up lips delivering the kiss!!!

xoxox

(like the exclamation marks on MWAH!!)

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

But if that were so then xox would be like two kisses at once, both missing your mouth.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The 'o' = the mouth and the 'x' is the kiss. You can't have one without the other.

Also, xo is a pair. You can't just add another x onto the end of it.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

For girls:
Love and kisses,
or Graham xx
(depending on relative length and tone of email)

For boyZor:
Graham
(ie I never know)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 2 February 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I think xo looks really disconnected and wrong as a kiss and mouth.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And Mary, by your reasoning, you shouldn't have a mouth without a face. And a body. I mean that's fucked up. Disembodied mouths.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, on second thought I think one stands for the hug and the other for the kiss. The British just like to cut to the chase?

xx

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think xp would be better because it implies tongues are involved. Os are stupid.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

So I guess windows xp is all about the tonguing.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"experience pashing"

(it's a nerd public information campaign)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 2 February 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

with a goofy emoticon

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 2 February 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

no one is laughing at my x-men joke, I am distraught.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 February 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Love

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 2 February 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's a work e-mail I end with either nothing other than my name, or "regards" and then my name.

friendly e-mails - tend to end with things like "raw power" and then my name.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 2 February 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

a mouth without a face

Nick's got no human grace.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 February 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

"xo" for friends is getting a little out of hand

i do a dash a lot of the time "-R" or just "R" or just my name without anything

sometimes i do a muah! or a mwah, sometimes a heart

maybe a "take care of yourself." this is all for friends obvi.
