Conner, could you please read the FAQ and work out how these boards work. Its cool to discuss anything you like here but you really have to put something up for discussion.

Thank you

It would help the rest of us if you phrased the start of this thread in a form we could respond to. You have given us nothing to discuss.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 1 February 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

conner Smedley (gsc660), Sunday, 2 February 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

despite the annoyingness of them all, the knowledge that these threads exist seems to have brightened up my day consistently. As long as they stop soon, then i'd be the happiest man in the world, content to know that they once were. And that they are no longer.

I just watched the disney dubbed version of this for the first time and thought it was complete crap. billy bob thornton in particular, but clare daines, and a few of the other dubs were just completely cut and pasted in from another universe which really took away from the flow of the dialogue. that said, billy crudup did a pretty good job though. i can't believe the studio really thought that some of these "castings" were a good idea.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 5 April 2004 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I completely disagree.

I saw the Japanese subtitled version about 2 years ago, and it didn't make a lick of sense.

HSA got me the dubbed version for my birthday, and the flow was much better, it made sense for the first time. I'm not an anime purist, I find that subtitling really destroys the enjoyment of an animated film for me, because the joy is in the imagery as much as the plot, and if you're too busy scanning for words and trying to associate words with characters, you get less time to enjoy the visuals.

(Which is odd because I don't have this problem quite so much with subtitled live action films usually.)

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 5 April 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Watch it dubbed first time out, and subtitled after that. And then, eventually, watch it undubbed and unsubtitled (if you have the option to). tHAT'S WHAT i ALWAYS TRY AND DO. Ooops, caps.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 5 April 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

PS. I miss Conner.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 5 April 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This assumes that you watch movies more than once...

(OK, now I have the DVDs, I probably will. But still!)

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 5 April 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

If I'm gonna pay money for it, I'm gonna watch it more than once.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 5 April 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus I have fucking nothing else to do with my life.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 5 April 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a present, ergo, I didn't pay for it. Though I suppose there are some films that I will watch over and over and over again, until I know the dialogue by heart anyway.
