What is the colo(u)r scheme in your home (room by room, if you live in anything larger than a studio)?

That is the question. I'm wondering about which colors are most popular for which rooms, and this is my way of taking a poll.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 2 February 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

They're all white. That's the way the apartment was when we moved in, and I am no Changing Rooms-stylee home decor obsessive.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 2 February 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

My room, is pale blue/lilac, with light purple doors, blue carpet, red bed spread

The rest of the house is beige, and we have horrible green carpets downstairs, coz we've never decorated. The kitchen has some nice torquise in it though.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 February 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Very much white walls throughout. The only decorations specifically on the wall are an oil painting, a marker drawing on blue paper and a pen-and-ink drawing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 February 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

my room is painted beige, the furniture is wooden, and i have random colorful things around. lots of books and a few colored boxes and candles.

CJ has a bigger house than me! Anyway, the living room is cream, with dark red carpet and curtains. I'd have to get up and wander around to find out in other rooms, and I am too lazy. None of it was my choice or doing anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 2 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

boring condo white everywhere.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 2 February 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe Suzy hasn't posted to this yet...

My bedroom - Bermuda blue, fuschia and purple

Living room - red, white and walnut.

Suzy's bedroom - red, white and black (yes, it's like living with the White Stripes)

The bathroom will be WAKE THE FUCK UP orange when we are done with it. I can't remember what colour our kitchen is going to be, I think it was Dot Com Grey.

kate, Sunday, 2 February 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

As ever, the devil is in the detail.

Living room has a white iron fireplace against a red wall. The slate on the hearth matches the blue-grey sofa, which is weird because we uncovered hearthstone from the cheap veneer flooring left by former owner. There are orange lamps and a white modernist cube. There are deep navy velvet curtains.

There is no black in bedroom apart from my clothes and the bed-loft frame. The curtain is also deep navy.

Kitchen features quite a lot of stainless steel.

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 2 February 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Best feature in the living room is the old fireplace, no longer used. It's built up in natural stone, which the previous owners PAINTED GREY! (The kitchen had really horrible dirty, curling, broken lino. We took it up and found quarry tiles underneath!)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 2 February 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

My studio flat is painted dirty white/cream. It was like that when I moved in and that's the way it will stay. I like nice clothes, always have, but decorating seems like too much hard work to me so I'm willing to put up with squalid/drab surroundings.

David (David), Sunday, 2 February 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Beige everywhere (it's a rented flat so I don't want can't be arsed to redecorate) apart from the bathroom, which has lovely deep blue tiles.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 2 February 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"a white modernist cube" makes me think of some terrifying evil puzzle/cage that traps the inhabitants of the house, literally or metaphorically, and makes them gradually go insane.

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 2 February 2003 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C that's my exact flat!! Except the gradually bit, I don't believe in spinning matters out.

mark s (mark s), Monday, 3 February 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The kitchen is a depressing pea-soup green and the bathroom is a Pepto-Bismo pink with black accents. Everything else is white, but right now I'm drawing up a redecorating wishlist. Ever since I saw Amelie I've wanted to paint the dining area a deep deep blue-red, and I'm planning to repaint the bedroom some sort of light pink. Right now I can't think of what to do with the living room.

Of course, all this depends on 1) paying off my present credit card debts, and 2) getting my finances together enough to refinance my mortgage and secure a home equity line of credit, so I can pay for these various ideas and wishes.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 3 February 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to live in CJ's house. Our's was quite nice when we moved in, but desperatly needs doing, I'm getting fed up other peoples decor. We've mostly painted the bedroom 3 of 4 walls. It's Bright Yellow. The brightest I could find, with white ceiling and edge. Goes well with Mahonany furniture, and the Blue bedding.

Our only other major contribution to the decor has been getting damp patches on 3 ceilings because of leaks.

I'll be following this thread for design ideas. But we have a lovely old house, with coal fires etc though.

Celeste (Celeste), Monday, 3 February 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Celeste will disagree, but I was fond of my last house. When I moved in it was a seventies timewarp, with an orange kitchen (feat. tortoiseshell-effect plastic chairs) and a bedroom painted a very DARK RED (Grr my pretties come here I am seductive bad guy from Angela Carter novel grrr). It was hideous. I loved it.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 3 February 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Dark green living room; Pale floral/brown kitchen and bathroom; orangey pink bedroom. Quite nice for a rented house.

isadora (isadora), Monday, 3 February 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hallway : Warm & Woody : linen/cream walls, 'medium oak' (looks more like bloody caramel to me) skirtings/dado/cornice, medium-light stained/varnished floorboards.

Sitting Room : (still un-redecorated): yellow walls & ceiling, black fireplace, light grey carpet, light oak skirtings/doors/windows/shutters, white cornice/ceiling rose

Kitchen : (still un-redecorated - might just leave it, as it's functional) : sky blue walls and ceiling, cream lino with pale blue pattern bits, medium wood kitchen units, cream worksurfaces, stained pale blue wood splashback throughtout, dark brown cooker/hob/sink

Bedroom : Autumnal : cloud effect warm apricot/orange walls & ceiling, dark brown skirting/dado rail/cornice/window/shutters, russett carpet.

Toilet : God Knows What : cerise upper half walls, light grey stone-tiled floor, dark wood ceiling and lower half walls

Study : Victorian Gothick-ish : red walls/ceiling, dark mahogany stained/varnished floor, mahogany skirtings/cornice/doors/window/shutters, cast iron decorated fireplace, dark walnut shelving

Boxroom : Hitech/Submarine/Studio: Black walls & ceiling, black skirting, black carpet, black door, black shelving. It's dark in there. Which is good.

Well, some of that looks pretty revolting...in fact yeah some of that is pretty revolting.

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Monday, 3 February 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

green and white

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 3 February 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not so much a scheme, more a conspiracy.

rener (rener), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

er, yellow and green mostly, but it is rented and therefore out of my hands.

rener (rener), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Same blue carpet everywhere except the kitchen which is chessboard lino. White walls throughout. Dark red curtains which were CHEAP and actually don't clash THAT badly, really. I can't change it I don't think but I probably wouldn't anyway as a) I like simplicity and b) I am lazy.

I put some new pictures up this weekend though.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Living room – Parchment walls with coffee liqueur above picture rail, beautiful wooden floorboards stained Indian Redwood by my own fair hand, varnished to within an inch of their lives and much coveted by visitors …..I luv my living room it’s Eclectic Art Deco….

Hall - kinda liqueur colour with matching neutral type carpet on stairs and horrible evil laminate in hallway. Been like that since we moved in, will get around to painting eventually but it’s textured paint which is a nightmare, the laminate MUST go though, I have an irrational hatred of laminate flooring.

Kitchen – Grey slate tiles on floor, blue walls and pale blue units (god bless Melamine paint)

Bathroom – It’s mostly tiled in a kinda peachy colour and the rest is painted cream, not my taste but inoffensive and it’s too expensive to re-tile at the moment so I’m stuck with it.

Bedroom 1 – Apple Green walls with cream/beige/peach type other bits.

Bedroom 2 – Half pink half lilac (the step-sprogs picked the colour scheme)

smee (smee), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Does 'coffee liqueur' = brown?

Archel (Archel), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it meant beige and damp.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

And smelling of booze, obv.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like a very pale kinda coffee colour, sorta like Baileys

smee (smee), Monday, 3 February 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Most rooms are white, cuz we rent and will have to leave everything white when we move out. So...

Living Room - white walls, dark maroon and gold color scheme
TV Room - sky blue walls, dark blue & dark maroon
Guitar Room - white walls covered with colorful rock posters/fliers
Bathroom - light gold walls, black and white tiles
Kitchen - mostly white
Bedroom - Lilac walls, lots of pastels and dark purple

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 3 February 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Kitchen: White
Living Room/Dining Room: Light yellow with white trim.
Bathroom - Bermuda Pink with White trim.
Master Bedroom - White, light blue
Guest Room - White
Grotto - The color of naked asses
Game Room - pictures of my gold albums/wood paneling

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 3 February 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Off-white. Everywhere. Not even magnolia, just a horrid white. The only decoration in my room is some Argos-y dark red and green patterny curtains. And there's some worn out light blue seahorse transfers on the mirror by the sink.

I have no idea what colour the carpets are.

Graham (graham), Monday, 3 February 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

White everywhere. Our dickhead landlord will let us paint so long as we paint over everything with white again when we leave.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

white everywhere except for one wall in the kitchen which is sea green.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
lately i've been doing my room in muted pink/peach/a hint of black, but i just bought some gold curtains with a half-elegant/half-chintzy design that looks like something madonna would own circa desperately seeking susan. they're totally hot.

don't blame me, i voted for buford pusser (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 21 November 2004 05:46 (twenty years ago)

I feel the need to post something to this thread.

Lowest (inside storage) room: All-white walls, beige-and-white berber carpet. Plastic over carpet because the dog will sometimes use that room as a temporary bathroom. (I do the cleaning-up, yes.)

Adjacent bathroom (our washroom): All-white walls, old saltillo tile on floor, white and speckled brown porcelain tile on lower half of walls. '70s nightmare.

Living/dining room (ground floor): All-white walls, light beige plush carpet, wine-colored accents, antique wooden furniture.

Kitchen (ground floor): All-white walls, blue country-themed wallpaper border, light beige ceramic tile (a bitch to walk on!), blue solid surface countertops, blue ceiling fans, lots and lots of pitchers. Looks kinda country-ish.

Family room (ground floor): All-white walls, light beige plush carpet, beige and blue furniture, heavy blue curtains.

Adjacent bathroom: All-white walls, patterned beige, red, and white laminate tile, red and beige accents, white fixtures.

Ground floor hallway: All-white walls, light beige ceramic tile (again, a bitch to walk on!).

Dad's former bedroom (second level): Light blue walls, light beige plush carpet, light wooden furniture.

Dad's former bathroom (second level): Darker blue walls, white border/ceiling, white porcelain tile on lower half of walls, very light beige porcelain tile on floor, white fixtures, blue accents (including ceiling fan).

My bedroom (second level): Grayish green walls, white border/ceiling, light beige plush carpet, dark wooden furniture, green and white accents (including curtains and valance -- ceiling fan is all-green, though), white faux wood blinds.

Mom's bedroom (second level): Lighter green walls, white border/ceiling, light beige plush carpet, slightly lighter wooden furniture, green, burgundy, and beige accents (including valance), white plantation shutters.

Second level hallway: All-white walls, light beige plush carpet.

(Yes, I live in a house that has three levels in it.)

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 21 November 2004 06:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh! Nearly forgot the bathroom that's connected to Mom's bedroom! It's got all-white walls, white and speckled beige porcelain tile on the lower half of the walls, light beige porcelain tile on the floor, and... that's it. The towels in it are both burgundy- and green-colored. the shower contains the same porcelain tile that's on the lower half of the walls, and there are no real defining secondary colors in this room.

Drama Queen Wannabe (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 21 November 2004 06:41 (twenty years ago)

White.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 21 November 2004 08:30 (twenty years ago)

Yup, all white.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Sunday, 21 November 2004 08:48 (twenty years ago)

Dirty white. Like me.

Kenan (kenan), Sunday, 21 November 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

rusty red and dark purple in the lounge/kitchen. Off-white in the bedroom and laundry. The exterior is light aqua bluish-green

god made dirt and dirt bust ass (papa november), Sunday, 21 November 2004 09:07 (twenty years ago)

cream-colored walls and nice, shiny hardwood floors. that's about it.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 21 November 2004 09:10 (twenty years ago)

Hall: Terracotta carpet, cream walls, white doors, tortoiseshell lampshades, dark-framed pictures of places we used to live (prints of painting of the view into Inverness from the southbound A9, Paisley Abbey, a typical West End tenement)

Bathroom: Aqua greenish carpet - one wall dark purple rag-roll-imitation-effect wallpaper, other three walls tiled in lilac. White blinds and a white voile curtain with purple flowers on it. White bathroom suite - small mosaic tiles round the bath panel (purple, navy blue and a kind of aqua green which is nowhere near as horrible as it sounds). Slightly obsessed with making sure only the lilac, dark green and navy blue towels get used in there - all other towels we own are kept for holidays/the gym. Blue framed paintings of cats.

Me & the mister's room: Brown carpet (inherited) - golden sand type coloured walls, heavy cream curtains, white & gold duvet & pillows, pine furniture except for an old cabin trunk currently stained dark green but which is about to go deep red to match all the candles/cushions and stuff I've just bought. Pictures all in pine frames, and all gold/deep red themed colours.

Spare bedroom: pale green carpet, cream walls, white voile curtains with heavier royal blue proper curtains over them, dark wood furniture, lilac and white duvet and pillows. Picture frames all painted purple on one wall, other pictures have purple theme.

Sitting room: Pale green carpet, cream walls, terracotta curtains, brown suite with alternating cream, green and terracotta cushions, various different styles of wooden bookcase, storage units, TV unit etc. Plants. Dark wood table and chairs in the corner pending our move to a house with a kitchen big enough to eat in/demolition of internal wall to make a dining/living area with a breakfasting type area. Various pictures in gold or dark woods frames (mostly Highland wildlife and scenery painted/photographed by my big brother).

Kitchen: pine units, white and brown tiled walls, brown carpet. The only room we haven't re-done since we moved in three years ago. No pictures, just a big pin board covered in rubbish.

Reading over this all, it sounds horrendous. It isn't.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 21 November 2004 13:23 (twenty years ago)

When we first moved in, we didn't have any furniture at all (no matress, no chairs, no nothing long story). So I painted the living room with this huge I dunno 12 foot by 15 foot Miro mural, background blue with a big orange line and some black dots, using color match from a book at the hardware store.
Plus the kitchen is a dark orange and my bedroom is dark red (scarlet letter I think was the name of the paintchip)

nora (nora), Sunday, 21 November 2004 14:03 (twenty years ago)

From a book on Miro that I brought to the hardware store
