Review on Itchylondon:

"Incredibly dressy night with the emphasis on being seen, but not so much on having fun. The crowd was mostly Hoxton types, with the look very much "ram raid at Oxfam" . The music, depsite the presence of Soulwax, was crap. Appalling visuals in the chill out area, no doubt appreciated by those who know. Worst of all, pretentious and incorrectly spelt 6th form poetry adorns the walls informing the 9 to 5 masses how mundane they. If you like hanging out with glorified, coked up, clothes hangers get down to electric stew.

This, probably, means that it is brilliant.

i've never seen one person in hoxton who looks even remotely cool

i'm going to trash for the second time this week. why?

Gareth, it's a bit of a ripoff due to not being able to see all the things they go on about in their bumf and the PAs being very short (eg. Jane Birkin Does Jungle for One Track, Fucks Off). I had to cover ES for Edgy Style Mag and it sucked. Lots of rubbernecking fashion assistants (EXCUSE ME YOUR JOB IS TO TAKE BAGS OF CLOTHES BACK TO PRs AND TAKE PHONE MESSAGES, I don't know why you're so smug) and 'scenester' extras from Central Casting.

I don't know why you're so smug

Because, in comparison, nobody sees the end results of this process when it involves working for that one start-up in the industrial park down by the railroad.

I went once to the Illustrious records party ES threw at Sahara Nights. It was nice out on the roof terrace, but inside it was too packed to even move. I lost the people I came with, lost sight of anyone else I knew and couldn't even move around the club to have a look. I liked the music (have just remembered I lied on ILM when I said I'd only seen Miss Kittin DJ once, I saw her there too.), but holy Lord God the number of people. It was a bit fashionista central. The people upstairs for the Sony/ Illustrious bash were actually less pretentious.

I ended up thinking 'sod this' and getting a cab over to the Boston Arms in Tufnell park to see my mates band play at what amounted to a youth club disco, still in full-on electro bimbo regalia. I had a great night.

who were the band?

Three of my good friends. They're called The Randoms. I think they're good. They're gradually getting more gigs. I think the next one is either soon at the Highbury Garage or end of Feb at the Waterrats.
