I'm more familiar with and interested in her as a memoirist than as a critic (though the excerpt of Sexual Politics that I read was pretty interesting). My favorite book by Millett is The Loony-Bin Trip, which continues the extremely honest, confessional tone of Flying, but feels a bit more organized. I also enjoyed Flying and her book about Iran. I haven't finished any of her other works, but her more recent things have either been so poorly reviewed that I haven't looked at them, or I have started them but been unable to finish. (I've also started The Basement, but have never been able to finish.)

I only read the Loony Bin Trip, which was excellent - probably the best book on psychiatric confinement that I've read. I'm ashamed that I haven't read Sexual Politics.

At about the time I read The Loony-Bin Trip I was close friends with a woman who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and whose mind reminded me of Millett's in some ways: very intelligent and funny, but under enormous pressure.

she lost much under the whole lesbian panic thing, and pointed out how restricted our sexual ethics are.

Sexual Politics angered me to no end for being wrong and somewhat ignorant about it, but its been a long time since I've read it so I might have a different opinion now.
