What are YOU doing to celebrate The Festival of the Rising of the Chickenbear?

The Festival of the Rising of the Chickenbear has traditionally taken place on February 3rd. In many northern American and some Canadian towns and villages locals have been known to celebrate the day by dressing as the Grand High Hanle y Deus and re-enacting the day that the Chickenbears woke from their winter slumber, this involves a complex dance routine, much drinking and the singing of the "Ballad of the Chickenbear". Children traditionally leave out a cardboard box which they hope Hanle y Deus will fill with toys and gifts, bad children have been known to receive a rather smelly sock.

celebrate the day by dressing as the Grand High Hanle y Deus
How does the Grand High Hanle y dress?

To answer the thread title, I'm planning on doing laundry. It's a very rare occasion, basically a holiday in itself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

One night I dreamed I was walking
Along the beach with Hanle y Deus.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints.
Other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed that
During the low periods of my life when I was

Suffering from anguish, sorrow, or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints,

So I said to Hanle y Deus, "You promised me,
Lord, that if I followed You,
You would walk with me always.

But I noticed that during the most trying periods
Of my life there have only been
One set of prints in the sand.

Why, When I have needed You most,
You have not been there for me?"

Hanle y Deus replied,
"The times when you have seen only one set of footprints
Is when I was posting pictures of the chickenbear. flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently someone has already adopted The Chicken Bear (and his cousin The Bear Rooster). In whose collection does this holy relic reside?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Eisbar, prophet.

As for the owner of the bear, it is Calvina Walsh!

my ex girlfriend's housemate owned a cuddly toy which was yellow and shaped like a teddy bear, but with a red beak and for ages I thought that this toy was the original chickenbear. I believe she brought it back from China.

I feel that this year's festival will have to be extra-special! The world's gone crazy since we stopped celebrating.

Oh! Chickenbear I have neglected you so :( Our love has almost died. We shall go back to the old ways, I promise.

For the occasion I have already performed the finger-smelling dance at dawn. Not having a troupe, I forewent the chickenbear blanket toss. The raisin wine behind the radiator is almost finished to perfection for tonight! I'm excited!
