DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

hand.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

S: POWER SHANDY!

D: Bass shandy. Sorry, it's horrid!

I also highly recommend the Guinness and Waggledance shandy. There is even an honourable mention for a cooling LAGER shandy in the summer. Good old shandy.

starry (Groke), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I never drink shandy. Full strength beer or none at all for me. When I was off the bouze for medical reasons I drank pints of blackcurrant & soda, much to my gf's disgust.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

who here makes the best shandy?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

shandy duncan

I drink it a lot - it means I can continue having a pint in my hand while not getting ridiculously trolleyed. I am yet to experiment with different types of ale in the shandies, though - it seems a shame to spoil decent beer with half a pint of lemonade, so I just ask for the ordinary.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I am just so pleased to have opened this thread, I can't tell you. Shandy for all.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it still possible to buy drinks like Shandy Bass and Top Deck? I haven't drunk shandy since the days when I could not legally buy alcohol in a pub or offie, so I haven't really noticed whether you can or not.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was living in the UK 30 years ago you could get lime shandies (delicious). Still around or done the flight of the dodo?

Fred Nerk, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

no idea. I usually find that drinks that I think have disappeared completely have in fact just become very uncommon. i was in a pub near Chinnor a few months ago that sold DOUBLE DIAMOND, for example.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

hand

hurhur. it's funny because it's true.

all other types are evil. best type of shandy is the lemonadeless type.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Shandy Bass is still out there, no idea about top deck though.

What is evil upon evil is Holsten citrus, a beer based lemon additive alco pop 5% thing which I only had cause to drink because the Auto festival ran out of beer. vile

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Mark PROTESTS TOO MUCH.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

all joking aside, shandy is a great drink on a hot summer's day... the beer stops it being too sweet, while the lemonade stops it being too alcoholic. winner.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ginger beer bitter shandy is the summr's day drink of the gods.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Holsten Pils + Smirnoff Ice + Pint Glass = Death by Shandy.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

you are a very bad man

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

That's revolting

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i believe this is what ms starry was refering to before as a power shandy.

there is also the reverse shandy, ie smifnoff ice and kaliber.

bitter shandy is nice although i did get harangued in my local for ordering one the other sunday...

guinness shandy is CLEARLY WRONG. ON EVERY LEVEL.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

er yeah, I can't imagine what it would even look like.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

and (as mentioned on various other threads) known as the Wino shandy when my mate Paul and I decided to try it years ago with Holsten and two dogs (or it may have been Hooch)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

how about a half of beer with an alcopops lemonade?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Ben Shaws. Or is that just a northern thing?

I think Eminem has missed a marketing opportunity here. Slim Shandy, anyone?
