Become a civil servant. (This is only a half-glib answer.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

like animal insemination?

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Choose another - I've had three distinct careers so far. Actually, I don't believe I sucked at any of them, and that certainly was no part of the reason for changing.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Teach

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The average is seven so spin the wheel and pick another. Though Dan's answer is also acceptable way of maintaining your work in that profession.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Teach

I'm considering it!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

teach is the obvious answer, yes.

even if you don't totally suck.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear NYC is short 11,000 teachers. They're recruiting in the UK.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

What to do when you suck at your vocation is a more difficult question.

chris sallis, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

nice one chris

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't suck at it. But I bet you're having trouble making a living at it.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

keep seeing Richard Gere until he marries you and tells his friends you were his hooker but it's ok.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, i'm not really asking for me so much as a friend who whines to me every time i talk to him that he's being lapped in his workplace by the more, uh, naturally talented. (purposefully vague to prevent googling.) since it's def something you need to be skilled at to do - mechanically - i think it's part that he's no good at it and part that he's just lazy. i need to find something to tell him that's better than "shut up, you fucking git." also, he never graduated from college.

(that said, you're right frank, i am not making a living at my own.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Become a civil servant. (This is only a half-glib answer.)

what if being a civil servant is your chosen profession, at which you suck?

I think it's funny that people have this "ah sure anyone can do teaching" attitude. Teaching is really hard and most people would be k-rub at it and end up having a nervous breakdown by the time they're forty. You don't want that.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I was being glib.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, most of us got that.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

just making sure

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"He" should've thought of these things when "he" first decided to pursue porn as a career.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I would suggest crack-ho, but I don't want to fall into the same trap that caught me with the "civil servant" suggestion.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, THERE you are.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

" 'Become a civil servant. (This is only a half-glib answer.)'

what if being a civil servant is your chosen profession, at which you suck?"

yes, what indeed? the answer (judging from my co-workers) is move to another country and become a civil servant there.

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

teaching is one of the hardest professions and therefore one of the easiest to suck at.

-signed sucky late-career teacher.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

it was my first day back on the (teaching) job yesterday. last night i had a nightmare that i bashed a young boy over the head until he was brain damaged.

minna (minna), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

what age do you teach minna! I bashed a kid over the head today!! :)

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

haha you are my hero! did he deserve it? my kids vary from 6 to 12 years old but most of them are around 9 or 10

minna (minna), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Minna laying the smackdown! And she knows more about hip-hop than any of them, so they must be jealous. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

my 8 yr old cousin heard my lootpack cd the other day and said "he's crazy! he's talking crazy!"

minna (minna), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

This kiddo was leaning over his desk talking up a storm to a girl while I was standing there yelling at them for talking and not paying attention.

So I smacked him hard upside the head w/my gradebook. The entire class busted out laughing.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you should tell him to go to college. If that won't work, I don't know, he's sunk. If you're no good with your hands and no good with your brain, what are you going to do?

Dan I., Wednesday, 5 February 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Use your dick

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

minna (minna), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, put your head down and hope nobody else notices?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the next thing i did was realise i suck at everything else, too.
life got easier after that.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate this - this was supposed to be a job to pay the bills that would allow me artistic freedom - got no time and energy for art and i hate what i do and im crap at it - the only answer is to have the bollocks to admit that this was a mistake and to find something else to do - ill probably suck at that as well.

a regular (Mert), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Minna, with each exclamation mark I imagine you bouncing trying to reach my eye level. And you speak just like Buttercup.

No, you aren't allowed on the log flume.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

If sucking is your greatest strength, porn is the way to go.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin wins.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 6 February 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 6 February 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)
