Chris Moyles vs Colin Murray

Which is the bigger fool?

I say Moyles, but I'm getting increasingly swayed by the Murray argument - or at least I WAS until I realised that Murray doesn't interrupt records. Generally, if a record's on, he won't play hilarious 'pre-recorded' bits over it in the manner of a 'wacky' Radio Neasden-Under-Wold breakfast 'team' - nor will he pitch a hissy fit halfway through a record which he deems beneath his notice and refuse to play the rest. And there's just him and a never-heard researcher on Radio 1, not an entire 'crew' of twats carefully selected to make him seem funny and cool. He doesn't do 'aumusing' skits and sketches either. And Murray definitely won't SING A FUNNY SONG that lasts for TEN LONG MINUTES about Alex Ferguson. God I hate that repulsive bloated bastard!

Murray's just not annoying enough to compete, at least on the radio.

(It is funny that he's being replaced instantly though.)

but if Murray was on in the daytime he probably would end up doing the things Moyles does

i'm indifferent to both cos i dont listen to both much

Stevem's kinda right... the point to remember is, Radio 1 DJs between the hours of 7 am and 8pm have a duty to be entertaining first, and play music second. After 8pm, that's when you get your Lamacqs, Westwoods, Peels, Petersons, Hobbeses, and Tongs, who are they to play, hey, exciting new music (or in Westwood's case, just play the Tommy Boy sampler he receieved earlier that week). Moyles tries to bring the comedy to the table... and he just can't manage it. He tries to be "wacky". He tries to force his personality on us, when all we want is for him to play "the best in modern alternative". For all Steve Lamacqs faults, the man played some fucking music, and, at times, some fucking great music (seriously, how many of todays top 10 bands did the man break?). Moyles is irritating, unfunny, and a complete prick. But, in a way, he's just doing his job. Murray, on the other hand, feels like having the entire current NME staff hold you down and piss in your mouth one by one.

Chris Moyles is quite funny I think. Entertaining might be a better word. A twat, yes. But I like his show.

Colin Murray is awful. He calls his Record Of The Week his "CD Burner", and has to explain that he's not referring to computer equipment everytime he says it. Urrrgh,

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 11:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I've not heard Murray. As I've said before, when I first heard Chris Moyles I thought he was some sort of parody of Chris Evans, deliberately much more annoying and dumber. I spent a while trying to work out why the name 'Moyles' was chosen. Anyway, intensely intolerable.

Dom's OTM in terms of each man doing his job. Raises the interesting question of whether Moyles is worse for doing his 'I-am-afternoon-radio's-Evans' job to beyond the letter, or Murray's worse for not taking his peach of a slot and running with it.

"CD Burner" is bad, but it's not as bad as a grotesque fat man trying to be funny by bullying his most fey-voiced producer incessantly.

To me, this debate is like asking "marmite or egg mayonnaise?"

*shiver*

elisabeth k, Thursday, 6 February 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't go debasing egg mayonnaise like that.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 6 February 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Egg mayonnaise = horrible childhood memories of rotting egg smell from sandwiches that had been sitting around all morning in the gym where we were forced to eat lunch on rainy or cold days. Sorry, but it's disgusting.

Out of the two, egg mayonnaise actually makes me gag, so that one's for Colin Murray. Marmite is vile brown liquid death, but is more annoying than nauseating, so it's more suited to Chris Moyles.

elisabeth k, Thursday, 6 February 2003 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

colin murray has a sexier accent than chris moyles, so he wins.

He looks like he's just eaten Colin Murray.

Johnney B English (stigoftdump), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

EURGH. i don't listen to radio 1 but i met moyles briefly and he was an utter twat, met murray a couple of times and he was v funny and sweet. this was a few years before he got the r1 job though.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

A load of the girls at work were enthusing about Moyles the other day. They're all nice, bright girls as well, it makes no sense.

chap (chap), Monday, 8 January 2007 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

that's a good face for the radio

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 January 2007 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

the worst thing is he drags the others down, comedy dave ain't as bad when he does the shows with chappers and without the "saviour"

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Monday, 8 January 2007 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

That's not the worst thing.

Colin Murray is quite good on Fighting Talk.

Boom Dershowitz (noodle vague), Monday, 8 January 2007 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

Moyles is quite a decent bloke in real life, which makes it more annoying that he maintains his twattish demeanour on his R1 show.
