How come...? (Ned to thread)

How come there's an allmusic, and allmovie, an allclassical, and even an allgame, but no allbook/allliterature? I reckon this branch of the allmedia umbrella (oooh, mixed metaphors) would be incredibly useful, so why does it not exist?

Because instead of the 20th century alone, you'd have to go back and archive um, the past 4 to 6 thousand years?

And what languages or cultures should be excluded?

Looking at Amazon.com reviews are helpful enough regarding different editions of classic books, I think. I mean, at least they try to cover a lot of things.

Even though I too have wondered this before : )

I just think it's a scope issue

Also, STErlewhine might not know how to read beyond a 3rd grade level, judging by his reviews. I'M JUST KIDDING.

I have always wondered this myself.

Why also is there no allsauce.com? we likers of sauce need advice, there are so many different sauces and only so much time

Anyway, reading about books is like dancing to music.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, wait a minute -- hiya John! Still on tour or back or...?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in the 4ad offices in London right now -- going down to Brighton tonight. Tour doesn't end until, umm....either forever or I go completely mental, I forget which :-)

(my comment btw was inspired by Edinburgh's brown sauce, a tamarindy-thing that renders all other non-chile sauces utterly redundant)

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Bring back all sorts of lovely 4AD reissues of things for all of us. Tell Ivo it's for research. ;-) Brown sauce, eh? Must investigate...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Amen for brown sauce. "Suitable for vegetarians", even with its vaguely icky name.
