Do you think He-Mans "Force" is the same as the Star Wars "Force"?

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

but he-man isn't real!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't He-Man have "the power"? Specifically, "the power of Greyskull"? I don't really remember anything about any force, but it's been a while.

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

She-Ra's in the house

Not really, He-man derived his power from Grey Skull, he never had the same notions of religion/the other as a Jedi did. There is no doubt for He-man that the POWER works for him, it's his, whereas a Jedi, has to give themself to the force to be able to harness it's power/insight.

FORCE = spiritual

POWER of GREYSKULL = primordial

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

So, I think there is more of a pagan element to He-man, as he is really using the power of the earth to give him strength.

She-Ra is extremely small.

I wish I'd paid more attention to cartoons as a child.

What about that crap in that first new Star Wars movie about small molecules really being the force? I tried to ignore that along with Jar Jar, but I seem to recall there being some sort of "explaination" as to what the force actually is...

Side note: explaining zen-like spiritual powers in terms of molecules = DUD!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, that was a totally dud thing to do. It was the sciencification of the force.

But none of them had the power of the Force Md's

The Force in TPM - mitochondria yada yada - certain individuals are able to connnect with the universe on a molecular level or somesuch.

Which sounds primordial enough to mean that the Force = The Power of Grayskull and furthermore, in He-Man's world, only he and She-Ra (like Luke and Leia) have twigged the potential and became the dog's bollox at channelling the power of da universe.

The mitochondria bs was further proof that Lucas is, to quote Morpheus, 'Starting to believe'. And the Virgin Birth stuff too. Sheesh.

Oh wait I know what the force is....

MERCHANDISING!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Force is clearly the same as The Source in Jack Kirby's great Fourth World comics. Also, Darth Vader = Jack's Darkseid. Orion, Darkseid's son as it is revealed as the series progresses, and his pal Lightray are slightly remixed into Luke (though the name comes from Mark Moonwalker, of course) and Hans. There are other points of similarity too. Note that Lucas is a comic fan, and can hardly have missed these comics in the early '70s by the highest profile and greatest superhero creator ever.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin, I think you fail to take into account that George Lucas is a dipshit.

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't need to take it into account there! I was just pointing out the plagiarism because Kirby doesn't get enough credit beyond comics.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ah i was expecting that could be a problem cos in the brazilian version of He-Man he says "By the powers of Greyskull, i have the force" but i didnt knew what he said in the original

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Thursday, 6 February 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Could Luke Skywalker turn Cringer into Battlecat?

JD (JND), Thursday, 6 February 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I had the She-Ra doll with horse. The horse had battle armour. Thats all.
