Since this seems to have hijacked the college radio thread, I thought it deserved its own thread...

as i said there ... spiral jetty @ the court tavern! i really should track down one of my college friends who had those records -- i wonder if he still does?

sadly, those 2 record/cd stores -- the one owned by the Smithereens guy, and the one on the corner of George and Court Streets -- no longer exist.

and greasy tony's is also gone! (i know that that isn't really music-related, though ... and you only needed to eat there once, since the food was really greasy)

Tad: I'm fairly sure you can find those Spiral Jetty albums in the used bin at Princeton Record Exchange or Vintage Vinyl.

Nude Swirl was also an NB band, if i remember correctly? i think i saw one of their videos (on beavis and butthead, of all places) -- they never went anywhere, though.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Charles Wuorinen :-(

I have teased Scott Frampton mercilessly, for years, about having been Leather Studded Diaphragm's singer.

Leather Studded Diaphragm! I saw them more often than I care to admit. Scott on vocals, fellow scribe Eric Gladstone on songwriting/concept, and local scenester Ethan Stein (RIP) on drums. Eric later admitted to doing a Central NJ version of John's Children - I'm still not really sure what that means...

Sonic Youth allegedly based the song "Eric's Trip" on Mr. Gladstone.

I'm actually looking to re-buy the Lord John LP, the Zoo Musick EP, and the Leather Studded Diaphragm EP if anyone has them for cheap. I'll have to do a used-bin search next time I'm in NJ.

seventeen years pass...

Just discovered the sound guy from the Court Tavern maintains this awesome archive of live shows:

Not excusively late 80s/early 90s but lots of New Brunswick bands from throughout the years as well as some national acts. And a certain 11-23-02 set from a certain band that a certain ilxor played drums in was recently uploaded.

Was at RU in the early 90s and went to so many shows at Court/Corner Taverns, Bowl O Drome, Melody Bar... Great times. Also... the house parties with multiple bands playing in a basement. :)

I was there in the late 90s, def played and went to shows at Court, Melody, Corner and many basement shows. There's a particular style of basement that will always be a "New Brunswick basement" in my mind even though it's pretty generic. I don't think Bowl O Drome was still there.
