just saw a post from DG about this on the fortnight thread. so i guess people could give feedback or delete this thread. whateva

It really depends on how it is organized. I find that threads can be difficult to locate on the ILM boards because the subject categories are so loosely defined -- in that case, it doesn't save much time.

Nicole, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, CAUTION DG, because once you pick the category names you can't go back. So I picked silly cryptic allusive ones during the first couple of weeks of ILM, when we were getting maybe ten posts per day. And so when we got 500 posts a day the categories buckled rather. Clarity is your friend here!

Tom, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah what he said, don't pick cockfarming category names. There is no satisfactory way to categorize a good deal of the threads on ILM at present.

Josh, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't worry, everything will be categorised and tidied up, just as soon as I work out the most convienient way.

DG, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Obviously the best way is alphabetically, by poster's name.

Josh, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would prefer it separated as "ILM Exiles" versus "ILMers", meaning people who post mostly to here go into Exile. Or maybe "Warlords" versus "The Masses", it could be a real goer.

Ally, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, at least you didn't mention Classes and Masses in the same sentence, a board categorized Manics-style just would not do.

Nicole, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's the best idea anyone's ever had. You could just have one big huge category called ARCHIVES OF PAIN. Or you could categorize them by which manic would like the thread best: James (drinking, partying, general stuff), Richey (stuff like that terrorists thread and political stuff), Nicky (all the horrible threads), Sean (threads that got no reply and were quite quiet).

Nicole, you are my god.

Ally, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Would there be a Flicker section? And maybe a Steve Lamacq one for things that are geeky, boring and beyond discussion.

Nicole, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If there's GOING to be a special section just for my contributions, Nicole, it should be named after ME.

mark s, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Steve Lamacq: Pedantic questions that have no bearings in reality. Flicker: Questions no one wants around.

It's just getting too complex, we should just do it by "Good" versus "Bad".

Ally, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I'm in the middle of sorting stuff out right now, so go and have a look, if you would.

DG, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, and some feedback would obviously be helpful. Cheers.

DG, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It seems very sensible (he said lamely but honestly).

mark s, Monday, 25 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not as confusing as Nicole's fantastic Manics idea, but certainly good enough. I mean, some people don't like confusion.
