should you only perform actions that serve a biological purpose?

ha ha.

sorry i finally got round to reading that thread, and this was the funniest line in there.

Unfortunately I seem to remember coming across a lot of people who genuinely believed this was some sort of primary cause in the biological universe. Fellow science students mostly. There is an arrogance in a lot of science students, which probably carries on into professional science careers, which revolves round a sort of heart-felt "if only they could solve the equations" then THEIR area of expertise wouldn't be such a mess.

Biological = endorphins = make you happy = caused by doing things = yes?

I prefer to breed with organisms that assign their New Questions to Categories rather than letting them flail around in Uncategorised. No offense.

Thanks for catching that joke.

Oops (Oops), Thursday, 6 February 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I always forget to categorise my questions, I feel like I've missed something today.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Categories are just nice when you're a thread revival fiend like I am. There are some unsung heroes of categorizing who will remain unsung because I think popularity threads are dud.

"Search" doesn't really work if the thread question is "!!" or "ha ha ha".

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose my preference for breeding with thread categorizers is probably just another reason for people NOT to categorize.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it would help if you used a word other than "breeding" to describe it, now I feel like there are tentacles or egg-sacs involved.

How can you tell if this stuff is categorized, Felicity? Do you actually go into the categories to double-check that we're being sufficiently vigilant about this?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

If all else fails when I am looking for something in particular, say the brillant photo of the baby bunny in the teacup, I have to scroll through the massive numbers of threads in uncategorized, so I see who the uncategorized thread sluts are.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

They should shape up or ship out (though I find about half my threads unclassifiable - thanks for adding 'Language')

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't mean "slut" so perjoratively. I just wasn't sure whether people were aware it was an option to categorize their threads. Either way is cool. Peace.

Your friend Ma$e (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

N, I don't think expressing a personal preference is at all comparable to imposing one's will on others.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't mean 'shape up or ship out' so pejoratively. PLUR.

Punk Lesbians Under Redwoods?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

is there actually anyone who would answer this question with a "yes"? because if there are i want to meet them.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

actually taking the trouble to categorize a thread as "Meta > You Bloody Well Categorise It, Then" = classic

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gonna categorise from now on! I'd like my own category, if that isn't too egotistical.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

jel, if I ever have to find your lovely paintings, I know to search under your name.

I am very proud that this thread will now come up tops in any serach for my posts. Not.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to record a song called "how we feel about biology", it's just gonna be noise.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Finally, my response to the title question:

Is Human Culture a Method of Sexual Selection?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

(ah shucks thanks felecity!!!)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

no one is reading this thread, so I will use it as an HTML playgroud to see if the HTML bug has been fixed.
