I did a quick search in the archives, so forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but have you seen this?

It is a "...grassroots campaign to tell Dan Savage to give Katie a Hitachi Magic Wand and all three attachments."

(I believe he's sufficiently addresses this issue in-column!)

(Yeah, that's right, that's really the verb construction I mean.)

Absolutely fucking brilliant. This woman is a genius - and a pretty good mail-writer to boot. I really do hope she gets her wand. And wanks herself silly in the throes of VICTORY.

"So I told Katie that I would bring her present to a reading in New York City. Tragically, I spaced and forgot to bring the vibrator. Katie was extremely unpleasant, rude, and obnoxious about my oversight. In short, Katie's conduct was unbecoming a woman who was being given a gift, however belatedly. After meeting Katie, I no longer had warm feelings for her. On her web site, Katie insists that we have a contract, and that I must give her a Magic Wand. I disagree: We never had a contract. Even if we did, I would argue that our 'contract' was rendered null and void by her behavior at our first and only meeting. Insofar as my promises were grounded in my warm feelings for Katie, and insofar as my warm feelings for Katie were grounded in her apparent 'niceness,' I am of the opinion that I am relieved and discharged from the onus of our supposed 'contract,' as Katie's boorish behavior constituted an anticipatory repudiation of her solemn binding contractual obligations to me, thereby relieving me of all obligations to Katie.

"But, since it's impossible for me to be impartial on this matter, I've gone to the trouble of assembling the Supreme Court Of Sex-Toy Retailers. The five justices will visit Katie's web site this week, confer, and then issue a verdict. Their decision will be final, and I pledge to abide by it. So, do I owe Katie the Magic Wand? Or should Katie fuck off? The Supreme Court ruling is expected next week."

Dan's being a bit of a prick about this, no?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Even his e-mails to her were pretty dismissive. I mean, granted, it's only five dollars. But on the other hand, it's only five dollars.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

You know, he really should have just given her the five dollars at the reading. That's all she originally had any legitimate claim for, and it would have been much easier that promising to get her the vibrator.

What's problematic is that their versions of the reading encounter don't square very well at all.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

(Yeah, I really do mean "that" and not "than" -- you got a problem with than?)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

setting up this entire website and the exchange of e-mails seems a little extreme to me tho, it is only 5 bucks after all and was her smurfette fnatasy that important to her? she seems to have way too much free time on her hands.

Well it seems like it was just amusing to her to follow up for the $5 -- which I can understand, cause it's sort of fun to think you've been slighted by famous people and they owe you on principle. But then after a while I think it became clear to her that the $5 just wasn't enough, so she had to start making up this stuff about "interest" and the vibrator. I'll bet loads of people have sent her vibrators already.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 February 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE should chip in and send her a vibrator, with a card from Dan! That would be great if we got it rush delivered before his panel makes a judgment next week!

Exactly. I bet she's hoping to be invited to a late night talk show or something along those lines (mark my words - it will happen). But it's a fun story, and I like her sense of humor.

I MISSED YOGA.
