Pick the lesser evil and argue why the other two are worse!

Probably Stalinists, as they're more theoretical. You can abuse children or jews by yourself, but you need a proper organisation to have a purge.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

peds?

Ed (dali), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely Stalinists = Nazis

Ed (dali), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

NO! Really, in what way?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 7 February 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus, I thought this said 'Neds/Pakis/Stalinists'

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be a pretty easy debate

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 9 February 2003 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
This thread died too early a death but I can't remember what point I made that made TM reconsider his opinion a bit (I was nominating Stalinists over Nazis, I think, prob to do w/dispassionate theory vs. wrong but felt hatred), or indeed what his opinion was really. It was fun at the time.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

That can't have been it, plenty of Stalinists believed in Communism... maybe the extension of belief into STALINISM, I dunno.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You can abuse children or jews by yourself, but you need a proper organisation to have a purge.

some studies have shown that the holocaust took some organizing.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you read W.G. Sebald's "Austerlitz"? Not the recognised authority on the Nazi's organisational skills, but GOD. The counting of heads, the systematic killing, fuck.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not a long sentence, enrique, feel free to read it again over lunch.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

no i haven't read 'austerlitz'

farrell - wha? i think the nazis were worse, i don't know why. slavoj zizek to thread.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant "Nazis'" above, that's prob not too hard to spot. I'm sticking w/Stalinists.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread was sort of twinned with Why Is It "Acceptable" to Wear and/or Display Soviet Stuff? , I think.

Enrique: I'm not saying that the Nazis were unorganized, just that they have a play-at-home version of their policy. Or part of it anyway: you can't reunify the greater Germany by yourself.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(specifically my answer is twinned with that thread)
