Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 7 February 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I have:

My uni of North London ID and library card

My TVU ID and library card

British Library card - valid til 2005.

Local library card

It has been more than a year since I borrowed any books from a library. Except the book on Anxiety I keep meaning to take back to the library I work at. We don't issue library cards.

I have, in my wallet, two NYC library cards, two Queens library cards, and a Portland (Multnomah County) library card.

The NYC ones are ancient (and there are two because I also have my mother's). The Portland one has been used maybe once in the past year?

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Just the UCI card -- having ILL access is a wonderful thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

New York Public Library, Muhlenberg Branch

I have others but I don't know if they're still valid.

The worst experience was trying to get a card at Santa Monica Public Library. I had mail to show them but no bills. Even after I got a card the librarian smelled my books when I returned them and said "Have these been in water?"

This time I got a trial subscription to Time Out NY so I could show the library the "bill" as proof of address. I was tickled I could trade in my New York Public Library, Morningside Heights Branch card from back in the day.

in general or that work? :)

let's see. one from the one i work in, one from another uni i used to work for, a Chicago Public Library card (that's long since expired), one from where i actually live now, and one from the town i used to live in previously.

so three public, two uni.

janni (janni), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i have my local town community library which i can't use because of insane fines which i refuse to pay, and my college library which i never use cos i don't know where my college library is.

thuddd (thuddd), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Three: Seattle Public Library, King County Regional Library, and Edmonds Community College.

mike a (mike a), Friday, 7 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Edinburgh University student ID and library card
Edinburgh University Library staff card
Edinburgh City Libraries card
Humberside Libraries card

The City Libraries card probably still works, although I haven't checked a book out for a year or so. The other three almost certainly don't, although the printed expiry date on the student ID isn't for another couple of years.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 7 February 2003 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Two: my local one, covering all Newham libraries, and the one for UCL's library. I did have one for the next borough too, Redbridge, but that's has lapsed.

gareth (gareth), Friday, 7 February 2003 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

One from the university where I work, one for the Evanston PL, one for the Skokie PL (despite its relatively prosaic appearance, a much better library), one for the Chicago PL, and one left over from earlier years, from the Middletown (Connecticut) PL. So, five. The only one I ever use, really, is the university one (all hail Inter-Library Loan!) but occasionally when traveling and so on I'll head over to Skokie. The Chicago PL is sort of hopeless except for the main branch downtown.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 7 February 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

(not that it's a competition or anything, I think I'll go to bed now)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Well la-di-da! I have an expired British Library card back at my parents' house along with various other non-timely forms of identification.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 8 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Saturday, 8 February 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

library question: if i took a book out in 1999 and never give it back despite repeated letters of maximum doom and have never been back again out of pH34r, will they remember me? PLEASE I WAS SO YOUNG I'M SOORRY

zemko (bob), Saturday, 8 February 2003 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

having ILL access
Yo doc wassup?

I have two: one for Bruges which I use on a weekly basis (for films) and one for Ghent Public Lib which I now no longer use.

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 8 February 2003 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I have a Chicago Public Library card since my parents are BOTH librarians... And a Brooklyn Public Library Card - the one with dolphins on it promoting their summer fun reading program, or whatever. But I owe my university [NYU] about $80 in overdue library fees which is the reason I haven't officially graduated yet and haven't received my diploma. Fuckers.

phil-two, Saturday, 8 February 2003 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

zemko- depends on the library. Some have instituted amnesty weeks, where you can return books without threat of doom...then again some libraries have hired collection agents.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Saturday, 8 February 2003 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

barnet. cambridge. imperial college.

ones i keep meaning to get round to getting: brent, british library, cambridge university library (actually i still have one for there but it's expired).

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 8 February 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

One from Rotterdam Council Library and one from the Record Library.

I went to The Council Library today, flipped through Martin Amis' Heavy Weather and Angela Carter's Complete Short Stories, then I searched for the first book of Proust's Recherche, but alas!

erik, Saturday, 8 February 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

nathalie, ILL = Inter-library loan (I assume)

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 8 February 2003 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

westminster council will not countenance such 'amnesty weeks', i am sure

zemko (bob), Saturday, 8 February 2003 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)
