so this weekend is nancy's birthday, and i'm throwing her a semi-suprise party which people will be bringing certain things like food and cake etc. but otherwise i'm flat broke. what are some things i can do to gussy up this place and enhance the "party atmosphere" on the cheap?

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i have like 20 bucks in toto

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely all you need is some good music. That makes a party.

Ed (dali), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

streamers and stars of tinfoil?

really if you get everyone drunk enough it'll be fine regardless.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

First, take the money out of the dog.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Trash the place with 3-hole punch confetti and silly string. The more trashed the place is, the better the party was.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

good music + kids who live in olympia = file read error

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

But but but YOU live there. And are you not a kid at heart?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i will be A QUARTER CENTURY OLD in two weeks with nothing to show for it

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I'd have thought you'd have that one covered.

Ed (dali), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

("can you take off this disco shit and put on, some, i dunno, modest mouse.")

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

buy a 30-pack of PBR, that's like, $12, $15 max

geeta (geeta), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

tell all your friends that it's a cocktail party and they have to bring booze.

even better, say it's a punch party and they have to bring booze, so whatever they bring gets poured into the punch bowl.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

What is PBR? How much is a pack of JBR (whom I now worship, see elsewhere)?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(One part everclear) + (Two cans Hi-C) + (one bag frozen fruit) = $20 = much drunken vomit

No One (SiggyBaby), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

PBR = Pabst Blue Ribbon

(U.S. el-cheapo suds)

Jen (nstop), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

inexpensive american beer. comes in a can. or sometimes a bottle. beer-flavored soda, its detractors (and fans) say.

(ps: before you say anything, the hipsters here have moved onto yuengling, jess! hahahah)

geeta (geeta), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Pabst Blue Ribbon. The beer you drink when you drink to get drunk. What we drank in high school. Reprocessed Miller High Life that's set in the sun too long.

No One (SiggyBaby), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

PBR is way better than the 'champagne of beers'!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep, that's the kind of joke I would make!

felicity (felicity), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh! The closest that I’ve come to Pabst in the last 15 years was seeing Sonny Rollins at the Pabst theatre in Milwaukee (2nd row center, wow).

No One (SiggyBaby), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

BYO Jester Hats

chzd (synkro), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(ps: before you say anything, the hipsters here have moved onto yuengling, jess! hahahah)

Yeah, but Jess gets to drink Oly!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

$20 = 3 cases of Schaeffer

Sigmund Freud (SiggyBaby), Friday, 7 February 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Chips & Dip.
Maybe they sell cheapo disco balls at the dollar store or something...

Genevieve, Friday, 7 February 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hah jody, i dont think they make oly anymore!

(miller bought the plant and its actually closing down at the end of the month.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus wept.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

oly is now made in houston or some such place (it says on the nu bottles).

stubbies however sprout from a throbbing larvae nest in the alley behind king sol's and will nevah die.

chzd (synkro), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep, that's the kind of joke I would make!

We'll have to take turns -- tag, you're it.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't think of anything, I'd just put on Journey or Cheap Trick or Poison and prance about like a mad man. Hope the party goes well!!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

haha jel u r00l

geeta (geeta), Friday, 7 February 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Onions are cheap. And they make Calvin Johnson run away.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

How to defeat the undead emopire, aka DraCala:

1. Onions
2. A corporate major label logo
3. The light of the clear sun as opposed to light filtered through grey clouds.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget stakes and beheadings

chzd (synkro), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 8 February 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 8 February 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

jess, how did the party go?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

did the rim-o-gram arrive ok?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

it went pretty well. these kids are all way too subduded for their own good, and i tried to inject levity with my marth stewart impression but no go. otherwise okay.

THE SOUNDTRACK:

2manydj's pts. 2 & 5

a garage rap mix cd

the dirtbombs (my cop to "rock music")

a "best of 2002" mix cd (they liked scarface's "my block", dj sammy, and eminem of course.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

for next time (sorry I didn't see this sooner) here's a good punch recipe: 1 can frozen pink lemonade concentrate, add canful of cheap vodka and 2 canfuls of cheap beer. repeat till punchbowl is filled. yummy

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)
