And is it a desirable quality?

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 9 February 2003 11:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Simon Callow? Fuck no, I hope not. My torso's a normal length.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 9 February 2003 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

No, that's Cowell, isn't it? Am I mistaken? Simon Callow was the beardey thespian, right? Callow? Raw? Young? Fresh? Inexperienced? My hastiness with that erroneous pun may suggest I am!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 9 February 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Which is the one that means pasty, ill-looking? Sallow? I'm certainly that.

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 10 February 2003 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

callow:a. unfledged; raw, inexperienced

(i just looked that up in my oxford concise i.e. not even an online dictionary so apparently yes)

jones (actual), Monday, 10 February 2003 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

felicity (felicity), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I am ashamed to admit I have just realised I didn't know what callow meant. I feel like a tool.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:12 (twenty-three years ago)

A callow tool.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:13 (twenty-three years ago)

minna (minna), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't there something of a Bad Attitude that goes along with this word? Can one be cheerfully callow?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 February 2003 06:55 (twenty-three years ago)

No I think it means yr a moron. dunno why anyone wd answer the question in the positive

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 10 February 2003 07:18 (twenty-three years ago)

The fast-food-serving spotty guy in the Simpsons = epitome of callow.

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 10 February 2003 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm certainly not Willow.

Graham (graham), Monday, 10 February 2003 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

amateurist, where did you get this question from? Have you been watching Mallrats again???

Sophie Minola (Sophie), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are you so down on ducks, Amateurist?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Did I say I was down on ducks? And what is Mallrats?

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 10 February 2003 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

A callow is a long-tailed duck.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Mallrats is a Kevin Smith film (clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy) and if I remeber rightly, it opens with a guy reading the letter his girlfriend wrote him explaining why she was dumping him. It's a massive list of criticisms and one of those is callow, but the bloke doesn't know what it means so thinks that's the most cmoplimentary bit of the note.
If not ducks or movies then where did the callow thought come from?

Sophie (Sophie), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

* cOmplimentary
arse

Sophie (Sophie), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

It's just Amateurist's immaturity.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Lara, would you be implying that Amateurist's callow? That's grounds for dumping you know.

Sophie (Sophie), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

If I had intended to ask who on ILX was a duck I would have written "Are you a callow."

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

(I might have got a better response.)

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 10 February 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not tallow. I may be callow though.

alix (alix), Monday, 10 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)
