I'm rilly interested in wot y'all think of water as a drink. Indulge all u want in yr appreciation or hatred.

naked as sin (naked as sin), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I love it as long as it's icy cold. Don't care if it's town water or whatever, as long as it's cold.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Or I'm thirsty.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

can't drink it from the tap. must be icy cold.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Perrier- the great underrated "classic" of our generation.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, in lite o ESOJ: TS: buyin water vs. pourin tapwater into a bottle and puttin it into a fridge.

naked as sin (naked as sin), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i still find all other drinks to be weird novelty things... you don't drink beer or juice or fucking milk if you're thirsty surely?!

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

uh oh, look what i did

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

chilling tap water can be ok, depending on where you live.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

milk from fucking is kinda wholesome though...

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway: tap water tastes of taps

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

indeed. although it tends to settle after a while and becomes less metally

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

water is extremely useful. i drink a lot of water during meals to take the taste of the food away in between every few bites, otherwise i feel like i'm not enjoying the food consciously enough.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Water is wonderful. I drink about 4 liters a day, bottled (can't drink the tap water in Florida, even after it's been filtered). And I like it cold most of the time, but if I'm exercising then at room temperature, as if it's too cold it make me feel ill.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I love water, I go thru tonnes of it every day (airconned office, I get all dried out). I can drink straight tapwater not chilled, but thats becauase Melbournes tap water is very good quality (Canberra's on the other hand tastes like a swimming pool, BLEUGH).

Not a big fan o'really chilled water. Hurts me teef. Plus if its been in the fridge too long it seems to always get that icky other-fridge-smells taste. Anyone ever notice that?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i boil tap water in vast quantities and let it cool... is this weird?

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

depend wot yr tryin 2 achieve

naked as sin (naked as sin), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

also i think i mentioned it somewhere else but i hate the way people look at you like you threw their hospitality back in their face when you ask for water when you're a guest... i mean obviously not "let's have some beers!" "i'll have some water" cos that is indeed annoying, but y'know what i mean

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Cold sparkling water = heaven.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yes true, for drinking purposes i meant

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

aaah sparkling water = the devil also

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmf.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Boiling it? Unless it is likely to be ridden with some noxious bacteria or parasite, all you are doing is increasing the concentration of any impurities.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Meh... sparkling water tastes funny. Or maybe its my imagination, but I swear the C02 has a taste. Now I expect some cleverpants chemistry type will jump on me and tell me I'm wrong =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I presume a necessity of life falls under classic.

At home I drink and cook with filtered water; DC tap water is heavily chlorinated and during the summer develops a nasty-tasting "bloom." And I occasionally buy smaller water bottles, and then refill them with filtered water. Just because I know blatantly manipulative advertising when I see it doesn't mean I don't like to be seen holding a bottle with an Evian label.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

oh

i have to admit ned i was terribly scarred by yr desire for a crisp apple, white wine and cheese. i forget the specifics... but the addition of sparkling water freeks me out further. i cannot put a finger on what spooks me so, but it has something to do with knapsacks.. :)

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"sod dis, giv me a pint o mineral water!"

naked as sin (naked as sin), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

New York tap water - very good
D.C. tap water - pretty bad; drinkable if necessary
Volvic - excellent
Fiji - good, but always slightly strange after a liter or so
Poland Spring, Deer Park - serviceable
Evian - nothing special
bubbles - why?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel a little weird drinking water called "Volvic."

Mandee, Monday, 10 February 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Fiji - good, but always slightly strange after a liter or so

er, make that 16 ounces

I feel a little weird drinking water called "Volvic."

touche.

oh, and to be on-thread - C of course. is there a way to live without it?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 10 February 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

christchurch water tastes great straight from the tap lytteltons water is quite drinkable but dunedin tapwater tastes like chemical soup .

hellbaby (hellbaby), Monday, 10 February 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i refill water bottles with tap water, because 1) i am a tightwad, 2) i hate the idea of adding yet more unnecessary waste to landfills, and 3) some brands of bottled water have given me tummy upsets in the past, something irish tap water has never done.

most stupid marketing idea ever: ballygowan light water. yes, that's right - light water.

rener (rener), Monday, 10 February 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Best bottled still: Poland Spring
Best bottled bubbly: Elisbethan Stille Quelle
Best tap water: Vienna (although anywhere within spitting distance of the Alps is OK with me)
WORST "WATER" EVER: Aqua Joe (added caffeine, tastes like ear wax and is sandy)

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 10 February 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Tap water in Moscow is brown. However, it didn't make me at all ill, whereas the "champagne"...

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 10 February 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know why anyone drinks water when they could have orange squash, say.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to drink lots of water or I get sick. I came in to work this morning thirsty as can be and found that the water jug was empty. So I tried getting water from the tap and it was gross and cloudy looking so I poured it out. I think that since everyone has been drinking bottled water, attempts at making tap water safe are going downhill. And do any buildings have water fountains any more??

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"tap water tastes of taps". The most Zen thing I've heard all year.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so thristy! Argh!

I just asked the supervisor to change the Diamond Springs jug out.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I drink plenty of filtered water after it’s been run through ground coffee beans.

Mineral water tastes best added a few drops at a time into a glass of Laphroaig.

No One (SiggyBaby), Monday, 10 February 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Water is the most classic of classics. Nothing beats it when you're really thirsty; it's nearly orgasmic. You should drink more of it.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

i've never really drank water, i prefer to sip a few litres of no-added-sugar squash every day. but this has me a bit worried, is my drinking pattern abnormal?! are there any serious health risks in drinking this volume of artificially sweetened drinks?

NI, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

My 16-year-old daughter hasn't drunk water for two years. She says she hates the taste, even chilled, so drinks nothing at mealtimes when only water is on the table. In hot weather, she seems ready to risk dehydration rather than drink it. She has only artificially sweetened squashes, flavoured waters and fizzy drinks. I worry about the health risks, but also about making too much fuss. Should I just let this one go, or should I say something?

Yes, you should let it go. As long as your daughter is taking in enough fluid to keep her well – and she seems to be doing that – it doesn't really matter that the fluid isn't in the form of plain water. If you try to persuade her otherwise, you risk stirring up arguments about it, or accusations of interfering in her life, neither of which you want. She is 16, after all, so is old enough to make up her own mind (legally at least) about what she should and shouldn't drink. So leave it be. Don't bother mentioning it, and she should eventually settle into a normal eating and drinking pattern.

NI, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

Water is so gross. If my body didn't crave it and overrule me, I'd never drink the stuff plain.

that stupid-ass cannibal pen-pal of yours (Laurel), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

that's absolutely rubbish advice? it's fine because she's 16? xp.

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

I'll take mine fizzy w/ citrus added plz. Actually, I drink about a gallon of the plain stuff a day, but it is so built into my routine that I don't even think about it while I'm doing it.

Andrew "Nice" Clay (Pillbox), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:34 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i love water. what is "squash" though?

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

Lol was just gonna post how the Oasis campaign ("for people who don't like water") is totally bogus and a made-up demographic. Perhaps I'd better not go there.

C'mon though what's not to like? How can it taste gross, it doesn't have a taste!

this must be what FAIL is really like (ledge), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

does "no sugar added" mean sweetened with aspartame or something? supposedly it's safe but it tastes really strange and i don't actually believe it won't give you brain cancer eventually

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

lemon squash, noun
a drink made from lemon juice, sugar, and soda water; similar to lemonade.

Andrew "Nice" Clay (Pillbox), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

squash is also known as cordial! this stuff:
<img src=http://www.simplybritishfoods.com/contents/media/robinsons_lemon_no_sugar_added_squash_1ltr.jpg>;

no *real* sugar in this stuff so shouldn't damage teeth? or do the chemicals in the artificial sweeteners affect the enamel?

NI, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:39 (sixteen years ago)

If aspartame causes brain cancer, I'm totally fucked.

Andrew "Nice" Clay (Pillbox), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know if fake sugar is bad for your teeth but i would think drinking several quarts of lemonade per day is bad for them!

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:42 (sixteen years ago)

i used to love diet coke but pretty much stopped drinking any soda and now when i drink it or eat anything with aspartame in it it just tastes like *BLECH*

yea i'm unclear on how someone couldn't like water, but i've heard it from enough people to know that it's fairly common

mark cl, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:45 (sixteen years ago)

I just drank about 10oz of water. It was disgusting, but I choked it down.

that stupid-ass cannibal pen-pal of yours (Laurel), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

if it tastes bad, maybe you need to filter it? but jeeze, i can't imagine not wanting to drink the ESSENCE OF LIFE.

It carries whales and ships
But water is the wrong stuff
Don't let it get past your lips

Dilute the stuff with whisky
Aye, or leave it well alone"

If it tastes bad, maybe you just need to add some artificial flavor & high-fructose corn syrup to it? Oh, and booze helps.

Water is amazing. I drink two pints with dinner most evenings and about 1.5 litres during the day, after which i change my system of measurement it seems. Occasionally I dilute some squash or whatever but water rules. Never touch coke etc these days. Love fizzy water tho, san pellegrino, Perrier, or just cheap shit....of man's many loves his affair with water is one of the most passionate and enduring.

Ronan, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

I like seltzer with food, TZA!

Basically I use herbal tea or some added citrus, depending on the seasons, to make water more palatable to me. In winter I drink many many pints a day, in the form of peppermint or chamomile or hibiscus or similar tea.

twelve years pass...

I carry water around in a bottle flask thing which works ok.
THink I tend to drink squash when I'm at home or some form of Coffee or herbal tea.
Have been using water instead of milk in cereal recently which just about works with the combo of muesli and bran cereal I tend to eat for breakfast. Trying to work out if not drinking milk might clear up some possible allergic reactions I've been dealing with for years
