I was thinking about your music only yesterday, and in a positive fashion too.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 10 February 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(To my knowledge Nick has never fancied a pint in his life!)

Well, Glasshouse Stores is on Brewer Street, which is where one might go to chase Japanese tail in London when the locks are on the doors of the art/fashion colleges, but still...

(Sorry Nick!)

suzy (suzy), Monday, 10 February 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole's review/wish utterly roxors. :-)

Happy birthday good sir. Next time you're in LA the ILX crew out here will show up in force.

Happy Birthday, Dichotomy Master M.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

SOB!

This is most unexpected, and most appreciated!

I (HEART) YOU ILXOR GUYS! Who else could make parsing the syntax of an elderly rock critic or debating the merits of a free skate mag seem like the most nail-bitingly exciting thing to do on a Friday night in Tokyo / Paris / Berlin / London? Who else could make me check into internet cafes in Patpong, Bangkok, just to see how the threads are going? Who else would huddle round screens with me to co-write 'The Tragickal Historie of Michael Jackson'?

Thank you thank you thank you and, again, SOB!

Momus (Momus), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

(Oh, and that Patpong ref reminds me, who else would make jokes which result in my previously-pristine Googlism profile now starting with 'Momus is a sex tourist'? But, come to think of it, I wouldn't even know about Googlism if it weren't for ILX.)

Momus (Momus), Monday, 10 February 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Brett Val Brett, Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy Birthday Nick!

Today, on your birthday, I saw your wisdom in a country music song. Canada's Country Music Television was playing at my gym, and I heard the unmistakable sound of a Roland CR-78 drum machine providing the rhythm for the track, which is apparently a Top 20 country hit here in The Great White North at the moment... What do you want to bet the guitars were GigaSampler or physically modelled versions?

I look forward to hearing what nails you have hit on their heads with Oskar, your birthday present to me today!

Cheers!

many happy returns, momus,

yesterday, while i was having a look at a small cd shop in nara
specializing in french pops and shibuya-kei, in walked two japanese
girls looking for momus cds. the owner sold them a copy of 'oskar'
calling it 'kanari saikou' (~pretty supreme), and tried to sell
them a vinyl 'poison boyfriend' but the girls only wanted cds.

MJL, my Japanese is so 'oral' that when I've heard that exclamation 'saikou' I've heard it as 'psycho'! So whenever I want to say something's great, cool, or supreme in Japanese I say 'Psycho!' Which is a bit like raving that something is 'mentalist' 'wicked' or 'insane'! Here in France you'd say 'enorme' or 'la bombe'!

Shout out to the massive! Psycho!

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

philipk

philipk, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

momus, yes the 'double entendre' may not have been lost on the owner of that little cd shop either. imagine an ojisan vaguely resembling
a less benevolent form of konishi, who's job it is to purvey joshidai sophomores with the likes of oskar's track 5.

he was also raving to them about a barbarella soundtrack, but they
didn't bite. in short, one gloriously psychological little cd shop, made all the more psycho by the fact that his wife was sitting there
in a pretty insane looking red hat and dress.
