Stopped'n'searched on the Cally yesterday coming out of notorious hell estate. "Got any drugs?" "Yep, right here" (produces lump of hash). "That's an unusual accent, where you from?" "Canadian." "Hmmm - you in full-time employment?" "Yep" (lie). "You weren't coming out a crack house, were you?" "Nope". (Cop hands back hash) "OK, just get on your way, remember that carrying drugs is against the law" (they drive off). Pretty easy treatment, eh?

What I mean is, is this an example of 'privilege' or cops not wanting to do paperwork or what?

My mom used to call the cops all the time cuz there was a drug house two houses down and she could smell the pot (massive amounts). They would be like, "Anyone murdered? No? Leave us alone then."

I used to live in a neighborhood crack dealers had recently taken over. They would be out on the streets until, say, 3AM. I frequently called the police to complain about the noise they made. One time I thought I heard the following conversation (though I might have been slightly delerious with sleep loss):

--Is this a bust?
--No, just keep it down. People are complaining.

(Within a year there was a big round-up of dealers, however. This neighborhood was already quasi-gentrified, though it remains perpetually in that limbo state. At any rate, the serious dealing is gone.)

A friend of mine and I were in a park smoking pot once. It was well before closing time; I was dressed fairly preppily in slacks and a button-down shirt and my friend was all grunged out with his ripped shorts, plaid shirt and head shaved on the sides and back with the top done in braids. As we were hanging out eating chips and chatting, a park ranger rolled up on us and asked us what we were doing. We told him, very respectfully, that we were just hanging out and talking. The guy then targeted ME and ignored my friend, asking me to empty my pockets. When I put my hand in my pocket, the guy FREAKED and shouted, "WOAH", holding up his flashlight in position to club me down. I slowly took my hand out of my pocket and showed him the candy I'd been carrying around. The guy straightened up, mumbled something about the park closing soon, the proceeded to pat ME down before going on his way. My friend sort of stood off to the side staring aghast at the whole situation. Finally, my friend asked, "Um, is it just me or was that really, REALLY racist?"

(I still have the candy dispenser that I showed the ranger, which is shaped like the head of Plucky Duck, a Tiny Toon Adventures character.)

Dave, did you get his name or number? You should report him for letting a criminal roam free!

Hey ´regular poster´ - your story makes no sense since we don't know what race you or your friend are!

From the context of the thread, I thought people would figure out that my friend is white and I am not.
