Why haven't I had my period?

Okay, I'm not very sexually active, and always use protection when I am. The last time I had sex was just under 2 months ago, and I had my period, and finished 3 days before this. I was due again early in January, yet I haven't had my period since before I had sex. I am about 98% positive that I'm not pregnant, but, has anyone else had a similar problem, or know of what it could be? I figure it's stress, I started school 3 days before my period was due, and I'm getting up at different times everyday, and my course load is rather large. Could it be stress, and if I just relax a bit my period will come? Please help.

Jennifer G (Going Crazy), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, it could well be stress. I've had my cycle go haywire when going through crazy times. However, it is best not to assume that this is the case and get your butt into an OB/Gyn/Midwife's office for a wee-on-the-stick test.

If you're not on the pill. you might want to consider it - it helps to keep the cycle regular and therefore alleviates the "oh my god, why haven't I started" panic that always used to hit me (mainly because I could never remember when my last period had occurred).

In addition to stress, your cycle can be affected by changes in sleep, exercise, being around women who are on diferent cycles, and so forth. But it's best to go and gret this checked-out, for your sanity, immediately. Good luck!

I would get a home pregnancy test from a chemist store, & use it anyway. It can't do any harm, and will eliminate that at least. Other than that, best to see a doctor. Getting medical advice from the internet is not likely to be a good idea, really.

Especially from a site like this, sheesh!

In my medical opinion, you're going through menopause.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a second opinion.

You're also insane.

Dr N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

At language school in Monterey we had class 5 days a week with the same people in the same buildings for 8 hours a day. The girls all got synchronized - by the time I graduated I knew practically to the day when the whole Korean program was going to get bitchy. Fun.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

*laughing* That's a marvelous anecdote, Millar.

As ill-advised as it may be to post a question this serious to ilx, I'm suprised at the level of insensitivity here.

Jennifer, I really can't answer your question (do see a doctor if you're worried), but I hope you feel better soon.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, spend 12 bucks and get it checked out. Probably just stress. You can bleed near the beginning of a pregnancy. trust me.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

go see a doctor though

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you normally have irregular periods? If so, it might also be that you have polycystic ovaries - at least that's what it was for me. But everyone is right - go see your gyn as soon as you can and get it sorted out.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

getting a pregnancy test would be the first thing to do, just to be sure. another thing that can cause irregular periods is low body weight, so make sure you are eating well. if none of these seems to be the problem, see a doctor. i really hope that its just stress holding it back.

I was hoping people would get the double entendre. In any case, I wish Jennifer the best, and thankfully she's gotten some sane advice by now.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I got it - there's a period!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

(and I was also trying to "end" the thread of the insensitivity. Aren't I ironic? *I think I'll hide now*)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Jennifer, how old are you?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the thread's done rather well for sensitivity! Lot's of serious answers and a relatively small amount of banter. Obviously *some* people haven't learned not to insult (in a jokey way, I know, I know) the newbies on their first thread, but I guess they never will...

I had a friend that continued bleeding on and off for the first 4 months of her pregnancy. Don't know if that's normal, but anyway...

I guess I figured that Ms Laura and Pashmina had given the sensible advice already. Sorry if I upset you, Jennifer.

one year passes...

I am kind of having the opposite problem: I am having a heavy, 2-3 day period every week or so, since around mid-March. Like way more than just 'spotting.' Aside from making it impossible for me to schedule a pap, is this a deal?

Every week? That doesn't sound good. You should go to your gyneco.

Knew a girl who had a little everyweek, but only a small amount, she went to doc's , and it was put down to stress.
She was also told sex would start the bleeding.
She's fine now though, only lasted while she was stressed.

Still, visit doc's.

Abs are you on any sort of hormonal BC?

I knew a girl who had this happen after taking a morning-after pill, forget how long she said it lasted. Not forever.

Also the gyno had a freak opening today at 2:30 p.m.! So I won't have to wait TOO long in suspense.

Ah, ok cool. Was going to say go to Dr. anyway, obv. Out of curiosity - did the beginning of the bleeding correspond to starting that particular BCP or have you been on that a while?

the gyno had a freak opening

(Stan, shut up)

StanM, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

xpost - Yeah I figured you would have mentioned it if it had but thought I'd check anyway. If it's not accompanied by any other weird symptoms though could still maybe just be BC related. *shrugs* Keep us posted - I'm v curious.
