And I still don't get it. The only two hits for geezers' kiosk on the whole world wide web are here and norfolk windmills. It is a peculiarly Gareth creation.

Stevie, I've copied your notes onto a CD after days of failing to get my old and fucked computer to work properly. It's on top of the new computer tower in a case, and it's labelled "Stevie's dociuments", I think.

Moving back to the thread, I don't get it, neither do I want to.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

enjoying the word kiosk - something to do with the fact that it begins and ends with the same conosonant maybe? It feels like a round trip successfully completed - you've accomplished something and you're back home again. But the middle bit is snug and satifying like the kiosk itself. Unlike kayak, which satisfies the first criterion, yet sounds harsh. And it conjures up harsh thoughts...the Eskimo paddling through the torrid, bergy seas. One person against the cruel elements.

Kisosk sounds cosy, warm, maybe even twee (old style telephone kiosk. tourist information). Combine it with geezer (which suggests 'lad', 'lout' and 'Loaded') and it makes for some interesting scenes.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth didn't invent geezers. eureka, he just decided that some of them could be found in a place determined to be a kiosk.

(kayaks can be used in very non-harsh environments. kayak is a beautiful word.)

What I was looking for this morning, just a few hours after my arrival in New York, was a small anonymous newspaper stand, a now-disused kiosk (I had never seen anyone inside it) that could just about hold one person and two or three piles of newspapers. The pull-down shutter was firmly closed, but there on the shutter was the very handwriting I had been seeking.
It read: "Petrella Point. Pointin' Away Since MCMLXXV." Underneath, more or less in columns, were the directions:

Nearest Subway, 2 Blocks North, 1 East
UPTOWN BUSSTOP, 1 BLOCK Other Side of the Street
DELANCEY--4 BLOCKS
GRAND ST.--2 BLOCKS

Orchard St., 5 Blocks East
Ludlow St., 6 Blocks East
Essex St. ... Where Jewish People Used To Be ... 7 Blocks East
Allen St., 4 Blocks East
Forsyth St. ... Where Puerto Ricans Used To Be ... 2
"Little Italy" ... Where Italians Used To Be ... 1 Block North + 2 West

Maffi, Mario. New York City: An Outsider's Inside View. Columbus, OH: The Ohio State University Press, 2004. 12-13.

2. Geezer 219 up, 107 down love it hate it

A Geezer is a male englishman who likes drinking, football, and violence, preferably all at the same time. Wants to be the typical cockney jack the lad. They dress up smart to normally pull 'birds' favourites being Stone Island and Burberry. Theyre basically like a better meaner version of a Chav and not bad people to know aslong as you just prove your a 'geezer'. Sorted me ol' mucker...
