When was the last time you got really stoned and lay down in bed in the dark listening to music? (and what did you listen to?)

Two nights ago. Great fun.

Aphex Twin´s "Analogue Bubblebath 5", tracks 1 and 4.
Boards of Canada's "Turquoise Hexagon Sun".
Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Volume II", track 1.
Brian Eno's "Music For Airports", track 1.

Sleep.

Anyone else do this?

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time was many years ago to Loop and Spacemen 3. If I were to do it now then I'd like to listen to: Eno's Apollo, some Plaid and Test Match Special.

Alfie (Alfie), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

piscesboy, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

September, after my flatmate's birthday party (The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid - improved BEYOND BELIEF by the ganja)

Wintermute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

like 10 years ago, it was probably Dinosaur Jr or some shit.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

never for me either, but I've heard lots of songs I thought I might understand better if I were high

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I do this alot...in some instances, it's one of my preferred methods of listening to music (along with driving in the car way too fast, first thing in the morning, at work with headphones on, etc). Although I'm not generally totally in the dark...I usually light candles and incense and shit.

In fact, I did this last night and listened to Rahsaan Roland Kirk's Volunteered Slavery. The part in the nose-flute solo in "One Ton" where he yells "take it away, nose!" whilst jamming out on the flute with his nose still makes me laugh out loud to this day.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

never, but i like your choice of music

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening to Autechre's EP7 in the pitch dark on headphones stoned is more than an aural experience. It felt like random colours and lights were shooting into my head and down my spine.

dog latin, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Never. Drunk, once or twice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

A few times a week, actually. Last time I was listening to my own demos and then Brokeback, Boyracer, and a couple Beachwood Sparks tracks. (Obviously the "B" section of the CD rack is accessible from my bed.)

kellogg (nabisco), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, actually lately just once a week or so.

kellogg (nabisco), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I'm sad: I miss my last years of school, during which I spent ridiculous amounts of time smoking, reading, and laying around listening to Jobim, France Gall, Aphex Twin, Broadcast, Orbital, the Ladybug Transistor, Slowdive, Cornelius ... I hereby pledge to make more time for myself to do this.

kellogg (nabisco), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a good way to listen to music. It's very fun to listen to stuff like that when you're in that state between sleep and being awake. Especially with good headphones and total darkness.

Polo Pony, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

SAW II or Music Has the Right to Children would be cool to listen to in a cave too.

Polo Pony, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

On 'cid, listened to Robert Fripp's '1999 Soundscapes: Live in Argentina', and it helped keep me from wanting to kill people. I heart Fripp for that.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm hoping to do it tonight.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. Just got the Diamonds sndtrk and Glen Brown-Termination Dub yesterday.

Oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I do this occasionally

A couple of weeks ago.....Nas-"illmatic"

Michael B, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening in this manner, last week a huge full-length animated-ish imagined motion picture played out in my head an elaborate storyline to Deltron 3030...I always liked that album, but never quite realized how weirdly hyper-focused and imaginative and stimulating it was.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i left the light on but closed my eyes. the music was dj sammy's boys of summer on me phones. have also done it recently to fantasia on a theme by thomas tallis and the tried and tested global communication.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, not in the dark, but I listened to Farben Texstar while I was high about 7 months ago and it was great fun. Reminded me why I used to get stoned & listen to music all the time.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I always used to get cunted as an 18 year old and listen to "Beaster" or heaphones. I had a video worked out for the whole thing. A pointless exercise but better than getting shot in the throat.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I am too restless mostly, except when thoroughly stoned when I doze off, so this is rare.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Two weeks ago, listening to Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and then Sketches of Spain.*

*I dozed off somewhere between Saeta and Song of Our Country

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't done this in about 8 years. But i do pass out drunk with Reo Speedwagon blaring.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Last time I recall altering my mood and lying down to listen to a piece of music I believe was about a month ago. I was piss drunk lying on the floor listening to The Notorious Byrds Brothers.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I've only done this once ever; I listened to Amnesiac. It was alright I guess.

Kris (aqueduct), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't done this in about 8 years. But i do pass out drunk with Reo Speedwagon blaring

Or possibly George Benson? ;-)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

my friend made fun of me the other day cuz I said I needed to 'score' some acid for the black dice/godspeed show coming up.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I did this a few years ago on a DXM binge. It was the same night I saw the theater adaptation of Greil Marcus' Lipstick Traces. I think I listened to early Tangerine Dream when I got home.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Fahey, "The Yellow Princess" and Jim O'Rourke's "Happy Days". Both are really great, "Happy Days", especially, made me feel really energized. I tried to listen to Ry Cooder's "Chicken Skin Music" and it made me feel terrible. "Nilsson Sings Newman"--good. But my favorite is probably Arne Nordheim's "Electric"--amazing. Harry Partch ("Revelation In The Courthouse Park")and Pierre Henry ("Futuristies") work, too.

Daniel Vivian, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The Black Heart Procession - II

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Last week, at cuddlebuddy's house, lying on the bed listening to some band called Jazzomatic or Jazzsomething. They had some amazing complex drum riffs. I wish I could remember the name of the band.

Massive Attack are good for this state, too.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like weed but Monday night I got raging drunk on a 1998 Pomerol and listened to Queen's Greatest Hits I & II while lying on my love seat in the dark.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)
