Big city satellite towns - S/D

Search: i'd go for St Albans having lived there for a couple of years - decent rail link to London (Thameslink), more pubs per square mile than anywhere else in the country (apparently) including Ye Olde Fighting Cocks (UK's oldest inn, apparently) by the gorgeous cathedral grounds. all the usual shops and suburban crap around it of course and a couple of very cool records shops (Woodstock Records stood out, owned by the oldest deep house fan i've ever met) and seedy big beat nights (well that was 1997) - happy (student) days eh?

Destroy: nearby Hatfield where the University is actually located - along with Ware and parts of Stevenage this has to be the most pikey place in all Hertfordshire. olde Hatfield consists of a nice church and a couple of taverns but the town centre is hideous 60s new town dystopia, brrr painful memories - no offence to the Hatfield/Ware/Stevenage massive out there (well ok a bit of offence, you pikey scumbags)

how about East and South of London - and how about NYC or other cities in the UK, US, Ireland or anywhere?

holly springs is about 10 minutes from oxford, ms. if you like catfish and hush puppies you may find it hospitable. there are drinking clubs where you can bring your glass and tap into some sour mash. do you like poker? you can sling some aces with some card folx. most of this you probably won't see as you speed on by but you may see some barns that are gray and leaning a little... some spare woodsy patches choked by kudzu here and there.

i'd be interested in hearing the case for the defence of Slough (its the most notorious London satellite in terms of suckness, and The Office has really driven that final nail in the coffin)

Also near Oxford, just north of town on Hwy. 7, is Betty Davis Grocery, best ribs and b-b-q in NE Miss., in my opinion. If you're going north on 7, it's on the left, near where you cross the Tallahatchie. Been a while since I've been down there, but it was great...
