My grandfather is very sick, and he sent me a couple of photo albums in the mail with a note saying that if I had any questions now was the time to ask him.
So I'm flipping through 80 years of familial history, weddings, parties, reunions, wartime hockey games (gramps went straight from a hockey game into the navy), and right in the middle of these fascinating images is a page full of photos of my dead grandmother. Some were perhaps taken at the moment of death in the Palliative Unit, some in the casket.
I remain deeply disturbed by these. Part of me understands why gramps would take the pictures, I mean 50 years together and all kinds of existential nuts & bolts, but why stick them in the general good times photo alb.
People do strange things as they get old.

Too creeped out to look for a still, but today on TV I saw, umm, well, apparently this woman was videotaping her kids playing around the house, and she's showing one kid, and he clowns around a bit, and then she swings over to another kid, a baby in a little scooter-thing, and then as she's focusing on the cute baby playing you kinda notice that, umm, the third kid has hanged himself on the curtain pull and is swinging there with blood all around his mouth. Umm. Yeah. I don't feel good about this at all.
