Defiant Drinking or new DC FAP thread

Sorry for short notice, but Tom Millar, Julia J.Lu and I, the Gross Man, are going to go out for Chinese food and other etceteras Saturday, Februay 15. We will start our journey at City Lights of China, and point B, as it were, will most definitely NOT be Lulu's, the site of the Girls Gone Wild Party ;-)

We welcome all who can make room in their schedules. In fact, the more the merrier. Julia and I have been the only constants, and we have thus far been dependant on out-of-state or out-of-country visitors. But no more. The time has come for DC ILX to throw off its shackles and declare mightily unto the world "OUR MAYOR WEARS A BOWTIE! HOW CAN WE BE AFRAID?"

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 14 February 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I am answering the thread so it is not lonely.

Millar (Millar), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I could almost join you all, except I cannot.

Stuart, Friday, 14 February 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

If we can't go out on a weekend and have a blast the middlebrow Midwesterners have already won! Err, I mean the terrierists! Err... well, you know.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Have fun you guys. I wish I could join you. And especially the new cipher MILLAR.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 14 February 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I will talk to gfriend and see if we want to come up from Richmond. It's entirely possible.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 14 February 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I might come. Where is City Lights of China? What time?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 14 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

city Lights of China is on Connecticut Avenue, 1731 to be exact. If you are taking metro, take the red line to dupont circle and get off at the north exit. Dinner is at 8pm.

I totally forgot last night that I have to work at Olssons from 6-9, so I can't make it to dinner, but I will come and meet you all for drinks. can we pick a place to meet at 10pm?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 14 February 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

City Lights of China

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

heh only hatas reviewed the place!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what should we do about me the asshole?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 14 February 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

do you have a cell phone?

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no i am lame!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 15 February 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

In that case shall we meet outside the Dupont Circle Q Street exit at 10 pm, and go from there to City Lights? My cell: 202-xxx-xxxx.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 15 February 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Grrr, that was my home number. 202-xxx-yyyy for cell.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 15 February 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I talked to Tom last night and he just wants me to call at the end of work so if you two 9and anyone else) want to meet at 8pm and eat and then meet me somewhere else later, that is cool.

Is the weather going to affect these plans? Tom has to drive in... I will wait for a respons or I will both of you later.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 15 February 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The drive should not be any trouble for me. The roads are so saturated with salt that nothing sticks to them much anymore.

J, you have my cell number, I believe.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I am off to work now. I will need to eat at some point tonight, so if you two end up meeting at 8pm for dinner, then maybe we can all meet at a bar that serves food as well. Thanks, and I look forward to tonight!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 15 February 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I am back and I am happy! Thanks so much Julia and Tom for a marvelous evening! When I started this thread I thought we were braving the terrorist threat, but instead we were braving the driving skills of various cab drivers in a blizzard. I hope you both made it home safely!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 16 February 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I got home around 4:45 am. After you took yr cab I had to wait around for who knows how long - none of the cabs were going north. Finally I offered a driver $60 as he was coming out of the CVS. I had to give him directions. Luckily my car was parked in a garage so I didn't have to scrape off three inches of snow. Driving home I did my share of drifting and praising German engineers for computer aided traction control. I learned that I am not qualified to drive rally cars in Scandinavia.

Today I didn't really wake up until 4 in the afternoon. I'm just thankful that I don't appear to have pneumonia after standing in the cold for so long. I think we got about 10 inches last night - my car is now completely buried.

Other than that part the evening was quite enjoyable. See you guys next time.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 17 February 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Glad to hear that both of you made it home safely! I had a splendid time. Now don't you other ILXers want come to DC and have a chance to experience this yourself?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 17 February 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 17 February 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

What? No one goes to Stetson's anymore?

Lithium Lunchbox (Lithium Lunchbox), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

there is a starbucks next door i think and i was scared off.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh. Monday nights are crappy because I live 2 hours from DC and work weekdays (obv. I'm making an exception for my own show). Me and Sarah McLusky will be in town Fri. the 21st and Sat. the 22nd. Is anyone interested in doing anything then?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

sure i am down. i am working saturday so friday would be bettah.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone else for the 21st? Millar? J-lu? I'm going home now, but I'll check tomorrow.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

A Starbucks next to Stetson's? I haven't been there in years. The last time I was in DC was about 2 years ago but didn't drop by.

Lithium Lunchbox (Lithium Lunchbox), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

March 21/22? Works for me.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 10 March 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I am down for the twenty first. Maybe I'll have my car back by then with a new oil pan and a new tire and a bunch of new pieces of plastic that fit on the bottom. Either way I plan to show up.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I just joined this board, more or less, but I'd be up for the Saturday if I'm allowed. I live aboot a block from Stetson's. There is a Starbucks next door now, and it may be crowded depending on the disposition of the NCAA basketball tournament. As an alternate I would suggest the Pharmacy (18th & Belmont, Adams Morgan), which has a better (I think) ilxor jukebox or perhaps Atomic in Cleveland Park...

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Psych! Another DCILXor! Welcome!

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Soon we'll be the new LONDON

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! only 125 more people and we will even beat dunedin! ;-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

go DC!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! we will win!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

let us vow to say things like arse, tea, lovely and chuffed as much as possible--and i'll buy beers for anyone who can adequately explain cricket to me

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ahh are we trying to beat london at its own game then? ;-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Pharmacy Bar has an excellent jukebox, I kibitz from NYC.

in re restaurants, surely you can do better than City Lights. Meiwah, if you must have Chinese. Wazuri sounds like the exciting, lower-end new place. Rocky's in Adams-Morgan is a great time, if slightly pricey. Brickskellar and Stoney's have great burgers. Kaz Sushi Bistro is slightly expensive and reported to be inconsistent these days, but I remember great, creative sushi. Perry's has supposedly returned to form. White Lightnings at Old Glory. Tapas happy hour at Gabriel's if it hasn't closed yet. Jaleo?

especially the new cipher MILLAR.

Millar is a woman?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Boston is gay, we never have FAPS.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, so are we saying Fri. the 21st (which is bad for mookieproof) or Sat. the 22nd (which is bad for Aaron)? I think Friday would be better for me too. I'll leave the location up to the locals, but I'll be coming from Arlington and I have a shitty sense of direction, so the easier the better.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbneb, in my humble experience, city lights and meiwah are pretty similar. also, we have done a FAP at jaleo ;-)

saturday is definitely bad, as I am working from 6pm - 11pm. also, i dont have a car, so i would be taking metro, and woul get into town at midnight. there must be a way to work this out, though.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, so let's do Friday. When and where?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The Strange Loves of Robinson Crusoe.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i will feel bad if mookieproof cant make it. hopefully, something can be worked out.

8pm is a good starting time for me, and i am not sure where to eat or drink. I just ate takeout from cit lights lat night, and i cant afford jaleo. that is about all i can say at this point.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

let's do Friday

Let your mind wander, Aaron.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I dont bother bringing my mind to work with me ;-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 24 November 2003 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Mary! Are you coming to Northern Virginia for Thanksgiving? If yes, check out Guacamole in Georgetown. They're having a going-out-of-business sale, and have lots of Paul Frank stuff 20% or more off.

As for a FAP this Thanksgiving weekend, I would be available Friday evening (but right now I'm scheduled to work Saturday and Sunday evenings). Will anyone else be in the Washington area and interested in going out?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

haha boys: "DRINK DRINK DRINK DRINK"

girls: "hey paul frank sale!"

women actually be shoppin', holy shit.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-but I'm interested in both beer and shopping...does that make me androgynous? Or neuter?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, we managed both last time I was in Georgetown, wtf. I wonder if that gas station attendant outfit is still in that weird upscale Hot Topicish store.

I'll be in the "Washington area" several times in December but not this weekend, in which I will be in the "Arizona area". Unfuckingfortunately.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i am working this friday but perhaps i could leave earlyish and make a few drinks if anyone will be around. the dinner rush is usually over by like 9:00.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it makes you fabulous, ms j-lu!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Are people from the suburbs allowed? I'm only about a mile from the D.C. line, I swear!!!

quincie, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

of course. the more, the better. i think four is our biggest number so far (J.lu, Sarah, Nick and myself i believe). if friday is too soon for some, then maybe we can plan a little farther ahead for a large FAP con Ally, Tom, J.lu, myself, and anybody else who can make it here (suburbanites included!). If I remember my DC metro numbers well enough, i think if we were to exclude suburbanites, we would be excluding 6/7ths of the metro population. i know there are some baltimore/MD people out there too. perhaps we can even coax jess out of his PA isolation for a weekend, depending on if anyone can put him up for a night or two.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, I could do Friday evening probably. I will be in town Thurs, Fri, and during the day Sat., so Friday night is probably the only time I could do anything. But I would be up for it, and maybe my sister and her friend could tag along to make our numbers look more impressive.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

DC suburbanite here too. I've kinda been too shy to go to the other DC FAPs, but I gotta try one of these eventually. HOWEVER, this Friday might be tough for me since I will be getting back in town probably around 5.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

no need to be shy!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm out o' town until Sat. Will attempt to overcome anti-social nature for future DC FAPs, though.

quincie, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Where do we want to meet? Maybe at the Pharmacy Bar where j. lu and mookieproof had their minimal DC FAP?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

How about at Brickskellar?

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dudes, you know I don't give a fuck.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is Brickskellar?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Just read about it online; any place with the world's largest selection of beer has my vote. So who wants to come on Friday night? Is Tom gonna be in town? Mookieproof? Any other suburbanites that might be able to make it?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom's in Georgia right now with no internet access...

Allyzay, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I might be able to make it if I can stop having a fever and coughing, etc. Yuck.

I suggest meeting downstairs--if only because I have an acquaintance who works downstairs and maybe would cut us a deal...

(x-post: true--and no draft beer--but still pretty good!)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

So is this happening?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 27 November 2003 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(and aren't I annoying?)

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 27 November 2003 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy Thanksgiving DC Posse, and thanks for the PF tip, J-lu! I'd love to come out, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get away. Family, no car, metro, no one to come out late to pick me up after, etc. Bah. Maybe my mom will let me take her car? Hahahahahahahaha. Not likely.

Little Miss Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 November 2003 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i still want to do this... i havent been able to talk to my manager yet. i will talk to him tonight. i will try to get off early. i need someone to email me a cell phone number so i can call and inform everyone of what is going on with me.
mary you figured it out last year ;-)... at worst, we can split a cab, as i live near the GW Parkway/Washington street too, remember (though on the other side of it from you).

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 28 November 2003 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i am headed off to work... hopefull we can all work something out.. i have nick a's number... i will call when i get off work.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 28 November 2003 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am coughing up my spleen, so I'll be in bed feverishly dreaming about you all. Have a good time!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 28 November 2003 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

This rain and cold sucks. I'm sorry to say this but I don't feel like going out tonight.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 29 November 2003 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

OK. I'm pretty tired. Maybe next time. I'll tell Aaron when he calls.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 29 November 2003 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it was really crappy outside last night!
hopefully nick and sarah will be able to make it up to DC for one last night before their move to chicago.
did everyone have a good thanksgiving?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, Tom should be in his new DC apartment by now, so that should call for a housewarming party.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 29 November 2003 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I moved in last Monday! How about next weekend? I am going to be in town like for reals!

TOMBOT, Sunday, 30 November 2003 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

what 'hood in DC?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 30 November 2003 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Great.

Allyzay, Sunday, 30 November 2003 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
anyone?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 16 July 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent idea!

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

BUMP!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 17 July 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Five Guys, which make the most delicious hamburgers you will ever taste (we don't need no steenkin' In-and-Out), just opened in Georgetown (where Pied de Cochon used to be). I vote we go there as part of a FAP to be held in the near future.

(If we have vegetarians who don't want to be exposed to red meat among our numbers, they can meet us later at a bar.)

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 17 July 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a vegetarian but I can vouch for the deliciousness of their burgers. And their boardwalk fries.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Saturday, 17 July 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont know when i will be available. i am working every night next week excepting sunday. ESL is kicking my asss right now. given all the broken glass, i may never have soft, beautiful hands again! ;-)

would a sunday FAP be too close to decadence for the 9-5ers? perhaps we could cut ourselves off at 10pm?

lets make something work.

also, someday we will! do after-hours FAP ie who will meet me for chinese food or coffee at 4:30am on a friday or saturday night?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 17 July 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

no takers?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 18 July 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i am available every day for the next week and a half! where is TOMBOT, etc?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

where Pied de Cochon used to be

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I am somewhat reserved and have vaguely anti-social tendancies, but you all are such a nice lot that I should force myself to FAP, at the very least as a character-building experience. One has not truly lived until one has had a face-to-face meeting with strangers from the Internet, n'est pas?

And besides, I'm sure I'd have fun.

quincie, Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

On the basis of previous FAPs I can vouch that Aaron, Mookieproof, and TOMBOT are decent people. Or at least can fake it for an evening.
;^}

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, count me in too. It's about time I actually met some ILXORs, if for nothing else to prove you're not just a bunch of Eliza bots.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Just assure me that I won't be the oldest person by a decade or so. I have *clears throat* bid my twenties adieu.

quincie, Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

...., Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Twenties? I remember them fondly, I think.....

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have a problem with running into people but I wouldn't exactly plan my weekend around it. I can now be reached via tee oh em bee oh tee at gee doubleyou you dot ee dee you if someone would like to exchange cell numbers or some such to facilitate hanging out. I live and work right by the red and green lines so it's all gravy really.

federally yours,

J. Edgar Tombot, Saturday, 24 July 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
Revive because I want to go barcrawling and I want company. I'd go to Aaron G's Edgy Style Bar but I don't think the doorpeople would let me in.
