Whose going to the protest tomorrow, then?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Not me. I'll be there in (Indian) spirit (guide) though.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Fancy a comp. swapping pint at some stage?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on whether the delivery man comes and brings my new bed at noon or at 4 in the afternoon.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 14 February 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you people no social conscience?

Carolgees (Carolgees), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have the comp yet!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd definitely fancy a pint some time, Lara. I am fascinated by these mysterious Dublin ILXORs whom I have never met. my suspicion is that you are all actually people I know posting under pseudonyms.

what's this comp, by the way? I thought we were just going to swap our own comps.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

hi I've never been to ireland is it nice?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, very nice. come along soon. bring friends. big chubby friends. and lots of money. don't tell anyone where you are going.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And some of that lovely Scottish fudge.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd be up for a pint some time, although i won't be at the protest...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

if I ever visit, I will bring fudge.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You can stay with me as long as you bring fudge.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

that's not very long but thank you for the kind offer!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

sum1 i kno will b at da protest. say hi (heh).

naked as sin (naked as sin), Friday, 14 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I marched in the end as I was afraid that I would feel guilty later if I didn't. And the alternative i.e. sitting on the couch watching all the stuff I'd taped during the week seemed a bit lily-livered. I didn't quite feel part of the whole thing and I'm not sure whether my silent presence sans placard made any difference but I did something rather than nothing so that's got to be a good thing. I was touched by the community of the whole thing even though I didn't feel a part of it. And I was moved to tears several times.

Best slogan I saw (which lifted me out of my contemplative loneliness): 'Make tea not war.' The Irish seem to have a way of bringing everything home.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 16 February 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That was certainly not an 'indigeneous Irish' slogan. I thought it was meant to be a 'typical English' slogan. Now all bets are off.

Make poteen not war.

the pinefox, Sunday, 16 February 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you Lara-baiting again this evening?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 16 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

So does anyone want to come out mid-week? Doesn't have to be ILX-specific, although it might be safer that way.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldn't mind popping out midweek. especially as i've never met any ILXers

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm nice.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

good for you! I'm mean!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

So... Wednesday?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Wednesday this week! yes, I can make that! excitement.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

wednesday suits me, but what venue?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

How about the Long Hall? It's cheap and quaint and accepting of both freaks and geeks (not that I'm suggesting...).

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

never been there, or even heard of it. where abouts is it?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

On George's Street across the road from Hogans. Just up from Yamamori.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, I've just read the DV's comments about smoking in pubs on the pub thread. Perhaps we'd better meet in a field?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll put up with smokey pubs for ILXOR. don't mind me.

the Long Hall is a nice pub, but isn't it always full?

how will we know each other? I don't fancy going up to strangers saying "So, do you FAP?".

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

That's how we do it in London

chris (chris), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Just ask me if I'm the 98FM fugitive and if I slap you about the face and neck, you'll know it's me.

We could meet early - I work in town - so there wouldn't be trouble nabbing a table.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be the one snarling at strangers and spitting on them.

alternatively, we could organise a very specific meeting time and place.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be wearing a single handwoven silk glove, and a maroon sarong

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be wearing a black hoodie with a red square on the front, unless I spill something else on it.

Hey, DV, show 'em the picture of you from one of these threads!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll REALLY be wearing a black duffel coat and flared cords. i may have my small, colourfully dressed g/f with me. would anyone like to suggest a specific time and place. I'm easy...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Long Hall straight after work on Wednesday sounds good. I can be there by around 6.00.

I will be in a suit, and I am an oldarse, so I should be easy to spot. Andrew & Ronan have met me, so should remember what I look like.

here is a picture of me (on the right) with my special friend: http://www.buro9.com/manchesterPhotos/bowlie_51.jpg

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

shall we say 6 at long hall, then? i'll be there with bells and whistles on...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I can be there at six. I'll also be wearing a suit and you will probably see my spot (strange facial disfigurement developed overnight) before you see me. Grrrr.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be wearing a long black coat and an orangey red scarf over my suit. And carrying a DJ bag.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh cool I'll go to this, if you want Kilian I can try and get there on time since I know what other ILXers look like (green hair, horns etc)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder what ILXOR person has met the most other ILXOR people.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth maybe

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

can i come too? i might be a bit late. scarily, i will be dressed exactly like kilian.

rener (rener), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm,i was going to stay in for the champions league, but i might drop in,if that's ok with everyone-i've never met any ilxers either,i'd be curious to see what you're all like...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The Long Hall is a nice pub so if you come along and don't like the look of us, you could always hang out with the journos in the window seat or make a swift departure as part of the Dublin Literary Tour.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

To get back on the protest thing, 'cos the delivery of the bed occoured 3 hours early, the "Make tea Not War" thing started in the UK as far as I#'m concerned. I received a jpg of the slogan with Tony Blair wearing a tea cup as a helmet and carrying an AK47. For an Irish slogan there was a Father Ted style placard saying "Down With This Sort of Thing" with a photo of a B52 dropping bombs.

As for wednesday thats far too far away for me to consider.

tigerclawskank, Monday, 17 February 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd be great to see you Robin, if you can manage to make it.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Robin - is there a link to a picture of you anywhere, so we'll stand some chance of recognising you?

I'm assuming that Andrew will recognise Lara. eh, I'm also assuming that Andrew will be coming along.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

For the love of all that is decent and good, we all spend too much time in front of computer screens - we'll recognise each other by the deathly pallor.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha ha, people will laugh at your empty blog.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

If it's only your readers I can cope with your mum's laughter.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

OH SNAP!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

emsk, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Me. it's kn0lan80 @ gm41l . c0m

I'll reply with mine. Chatting to DV and Rener at gig last night they will be there at Lower Deck for nine. I will be available from 7 say. That should give time to prepare etc. Have you been to Dublin before Emsk? Is there a landmark that would work for you to meet at and then head on to Solas or Havana for food and/or pints .

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, apart from the 80 change all the numbers to letters...

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

We will meet peeps in the Lower Deck at 9pm, but I don't think we're going to be able to hang around for the gig because we have to get back over to Parnell St to get the bus home at 11.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

I am onimoed so will probably not make it a late one either.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

i have never ever been before! i am good at maps though and not proud to ask ppl if i do get lost, so anywhere you think is good. i have sent my phone number and also a photo.

emsk, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Say front entrance ('front arch' if you need to ask anyone) of trinity at seven or so? You can text me if you're delayed. I just replied with my number.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

yep sounds good. see you later!

emsk, Thursday, 4 October 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

emsk, Thursday, 4 October 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

No worries. I thought there were 5!

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

Kv_Lol: I will be there in the Lower Deck at 9.00. Probably not for the gig. If you find your way to a pub earlier, text me and I may join you.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

Will do.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

Weasel Diesel, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe... We'll see hide, see how you're dressed and decide then, ok?

Do you have a contact number for me in case of delays?

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

Weasel Diesel, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

Weasel Diesel, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

I am doing my radio show from 9-10.30. I might be around after, if anyone is.

Ronan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

Weasel Diesel, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

Right, I'm off. Ronan if you don't have k*ll*an's number email me your number. I'll be able to check emails on phone later.

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

Weasel Diesel, Friday, 5 October 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Would love to. Sadly I can't due to visiting maternal unit. Should I sneak off early I will drop you a text. Enjoy your gig anyway and my best to the pinefox.

PS. Offer accepted pending loan approval thingy! Delighted.

kv_nol, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

excellent.

as it happens we will not be going to gig (due to failing to buy tickets). instead we will be playing HUNT THE PINEFOX.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Jesus, I have never given Lara that CD I promised her at the top of the thread. :(

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

Glad to hear it. Good weekend?

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 08:41 (eighteen years ago)

Ridin ur horsses? OMG the jealousssssss...

suzy, Monday, 8 October 2007 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

nah we didn't ride the hosses, we had a ride in a horse and carriage! we did tons of tourist crap, it was ace. we had a LOVELY weekend, thanks to all of you who came out and helped it be lovely.

omg so many tourists though! it's like covent garden, everywhere. i dunno how you put up with it.

the belgian missed her plane (because she was looking for biscuits...) - did she manage to get back, does anyone know? i haven't heard from her since a panicked call from her boarding gate. dirtyvicar texted to say they had her and the situation was under control but that was last night

emsk, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

i dunno how you put up with it.

Booze.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

Also, try and find someone to hold your chips for you while you are waiting at a bus stop.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

Also, try and find someone to hold your chips for you while you are waiting at a bus stop.

what does that mean??

i didn't have any chips, andrew sent us to what he said was the best fish & chips in dublin and it was all cooked in animals. the others had some but i dunno if they were nice or not

emsk, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

Emsk, he is a bad man. Do not learn this phrase!

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

now i am imagining all sorts of disrepute

emsk, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, to give you a rough idea... at the moment of rejection the boy could say something like: "But I bought you chips!" I presume that DV means that the lady should hold the chips while the boy gets up to very bad things. This is all guessing as I've not hear the exact phrase as used by DV there. I will also not be going to a chipper with him any time soon.

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

There is an apocryphal story of some young gentleman being overheard saying to his lady friend "Of course I love you - sure don't I buy you chips and ride you?".

There are also reports of gentlemen of that type being so kind as to hold their ladyfriends' chips for them while engaging in amorous activity while waiting for the bus, so that in an excited moment she will not drop them.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

There are also reports of gentlemen of that type being so kind as to hold their ladyfriends' chips for them while engaging in amorous activity while waiting for the bus, so that in an excited moment she will not drop them.

Only on the southside. We're classy like that.

How was FAP last night?

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

it was strange and mysterious.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

Must remember to say away from the donkeys in Lapellos.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)

Mental image of Pinefox sitting beside stage throwing money at donkey in garter is pretty priceless...

Late one?
