My Vox AC30 was stolen last night :(

My insurance doesn't cover it and I can't afford to replace it.

I am *this close* to giving up.. Please give me reasons to keep going..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

holy shit, that really sucks Jim. I'm sorry.

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

If you quit, you can't be the electric sound of jim anymore.

(Note: I have never heard your music. If I had, I might have a better reason.)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks.

But "the a capella sounds of jim" might be cool too, maybe!

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno what a vox ac30 is, but if i see something that looks like one i will let you know and you can steal it and the great circle of life will continue until the original thief is once more vox ac30-less.

minna (minna), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it looks like this, except the handles are all broken/missing and so is the VOX badge. Oh, and the cloth is slightly torn.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah seriously you should embark on a quest to get this baby back! and then you can write a song about it. i am keeping my eyes peeled.

minna (minna), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I've passed word around too... but blimey James, don't say "I give up" based on this! I still want you to write stuff for me, even if you have to do it on a goddamned acoustic guitar or an upturned bucket and a kazoo! They can take your amp, but sure as hell no one can steal your talent.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

where was it stolen from?

minna (minna), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

my car. in my street.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks Trayce :)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That's really terrible. I'm sorry to hear about it.

If you quit, you're letting that thieving asshole get the better of you. Also, your music is something that comes out of your own imagination and creativity, not out of a machine, no matter what a beautiful and versatile machine it may be. A major hand injury didn't end Django Reinhardt's career, nor did deafness end Beethoven's. You might be able to find alternate means until something can be done to try to restore things.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Well said Sundar :)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's terrible-- I really hope it's returned to you somehow. :(
Do you know anyone who can let you borrow one for practice or shows? Are they really expesive used, too? :(

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard the AC30s can catch on fire if they're driven too hard and long, so that motherfucker might have saved your life!

(this is an awful thing to have happen, I'm very sorry)

g.cannon (gcannon), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

At least you remember yr tunes and can still play them. Think if you were me and someone stole yr smartmedia card - you'd have no songs or noises at all and would have to completely start over from scratch. As a bonafide instrumentalist you always have something to fall back on. At the end of the day an amp is still an amp, but know-how is magic.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

banjos are for you

Mike Hanle y (mike), Saturday, 15 February 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man that so sucks, i'll tell you a sorta funny story to cheer you up : 1x on the eve of a space dust tour we loaded all our stuff into john chrisstoffels's van overnight so we could just pile into the van in the a.m. & drive off. but he took the van into town that night & it got stolen w/ all our stuff in it. we went off on the tour anyway & played with borrowed stuff & a day or 2 later the cops called him & said they'd found the van & all the stuff was still in it, all our gear was too crappy for the theives to keep except 1 really neat old amp that belonged to someone else who was out of the country (roy montgomery, as it happened) & [name of fat guitar player excised] had borrowed it from the practice room totally unauthorisedly to use on the tour.
yeah well, i said a sort of funny story.

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i guess that probably won't happen to you tho, a AC30'd be easy to sell i suppose. no good!

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oops i spelt thieves wrong

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks Jim - and believe me, I know how you feel. A few years ago I had my Rickenbacker and Ephiphone Casino stolen from the back of my car at the same time - both I'd had for years. I was stunned for days - but luckily I got some insurance back and I could get a nice new Fender Telecaster - but those guitars were really special to me, and as a fellow AC30 owner I can guess how you feel. I hope something will come your way and you can get a new one.

But DO NOT GIVE UP! Take the oppurtunity to become the Acoustic Sound of Jim for a while!

gazza, Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Oh, no, Jim, that's TERRIBLE!!! Your AC-30! Oh god, oh god, oh god. Deep breath. That's absolutely awful. I hope the bastards that stole it ROT IN HELL for even that is too good for them. An AC-30 is not like other amps. A Fender or a Marshall, you can just replace, but an AC-30, my god, they've got personalities and they're individuals.

But don't give up music because of it! Surely some kind soul can lend you a comparable amp until you're able to do something about it? (I'd offer to lend you Jason Spaceamp, but I don't think you're anywhere near London.)

My condolences and my commiseration!

kate, Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That's incredibly bad luck mate. Keep yr chin up. But I dunno, Acoustic Sound of Jim just doesn't feel right, somehow.

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

:( sorry to hear this

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

that is terrible and I am very sorry to hear it. but your musical career is not over any more than my writing or ILX career would be over were someone to steal my computer. you work on other folks' until you get a new one and then you keep on going. take heart, and best of luck.

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 February 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha your "ILX career"? If only!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 15 February 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

My sympathies, Jim - that's rotten luck. I hope you get it back. Don't give up!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 February 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(oh you know what I meant haha)

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 February 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i dunno my "writing career" would pretty much be over if someone stole at my computer. as well as my pornographers career.

jim, don't quit.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't quit dude!!!!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 15 February 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Never, ever, ever give up.

chris sallis, Saturday, 15 February 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, I just saw on another thread that you're expecting Tugboat to break 2003 open like an egg this year, so I take it you've given up on giving up. This definitely sucks to hear that they nabbed the amp, but we definitely need more Tugboat albums.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 21 February 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

If you quit, then the terrorists have won!

oops (Oops), Friday, 21 February 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Only just now read this! Man, that's awful. :-( Don't give it up, m'friend. That first album of yours is mighty fine and I am very much looking forward to the new one. You must continue on! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 February 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck, that really sux jim. what they said.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 22 February 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't give up! You can always cyberbeg.

crab legs, Saturday, 22 February 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You can always cyberbeg.

hmmm, good point....

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 23 February 2003 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
You can totally cyberbeg like me http://www.makemikeamillionaire.com

MillionaireMike, Thursday, 3 April 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 12 July 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

woohoo I had forgotten about this bad-news thread, but now it's a good-news thread!

You should print this out and tape it on your new baby:

THIS AC30 BELONGS TO
ELECTRIC SOUND OF JIM

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 12 July 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i might paint it on in bright colours

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 12 July 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's great Jim. I'm glad things worked out.

I've played benefit concerts for friends who had their gear stolen. It's a musician's insurance scheme kind of approach really: you lose gear, we'll all do a gig for you.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 July 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool. Now I can give you your old amp back and you'll have two. :)

But seriously Jim, do you feel that being ampless for a time has helped you in any way? A different musical perspective can be really inpsiring. Were there any positive results from the theft?

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 12 July 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm.. well certainly i think i've learned to not be so precious about "having to have my own amp" at gigs and less precious about sound etc etc... but having an AC30 back is going to be like coming home to your own bed after three months on someone else's sofa bed.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 12 July 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
these sound sooooo nice.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I would murder the Pope with a Jesus dildo for an AC-30.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

new AC30s seem to take a little bit of time to "play in". it's sounding way better now than when i bought it though.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Umm, what is being discussed here, exactly?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Rabbits.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Jim had a rabbit stolen from his car and now he's got a new one? And everybody else wants one too?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of these comments are a bit strange, then:

"My sympathies, Jim - that's rotten luck. I hope you get it back. Don't give up!"

"these sound sooooo nice."

"i might paint it on in bright colours"

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(Pst - it's a guitar amp)

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it? How disappointing.

As long as Jim is happy...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Just kidding, it's a bee-powered vibrator.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Why use tubes... when you can have SOLID STATE TECHNOLOGY?!!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Thursday, 26 February 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Francis talking about vibrators too?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 February 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)
