at campus crusade for christ
it was all about jesus
and in the daily
it was about how fucked up i am
i've sifted anecodte, myth memory,
labouring experience into moral entertainments;
absently i pick at this, like it doesn't matter,
thinking that to work the narrative is better -
keeping it free of ambiguity makes one admired,
and that's the goal
forget the big words and the clauses
forget the poetry - keep it simple
and if you lose them
use shock
they will praise yr candor
and absorb only what they need
and if yr really worried
mumble under yr breath

Normalize it first as far as possible, then go about making it strange again some other way. Try recasting it prose-poem style: capitalize & punctuate normally, spell "your"/"you're" instead of "yr" (ALWAYS a good idea), eliminate the line breaks (which right now mostly fall in very bland places anyway). Question mercilessly the idea of literally analyzing formal poetic technique within the poem itself--as they say in fiction workshops, show, don't tell, and especially don't tell us what YOU'RE doing--you need to apply for a special kind of poetic license before you can even think about that. Be very careful with the references to events in your life that will not be totally clear to people who read the poem and don't know about them. Do not be afraid to replace bits of it with something TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
