David, my partner, has got a scholarship to Madison
I do not want to move
We are about to fling pots at eaach other, i am beginning to feel like George and Martha
i want random advice from total strangers

Is this a poem? I think it is because it sure gets to the existential angst of the modern condition.

You want advice? Okay. Do not do English. Read English (and whatever other languages you can muster too or in translation). The critical tools you have learnt in Art History aren't a million miles away from what you will be doing. Don't move, I wouldn't move for anything and absence makes the heart grow fonder - or gives you the space to see it just ain't working.

Most importantly don't throw pots, unless you have a potters wheel. Catch all advice - go have a beer with some mates.

I agree with Pete. Especially about not starting a new degree. I mean how, will you ever pay the fees back, for a start?

You need to explain WHY you don't want to move. Separate from the major issue, what is it that makes the idea of moving so bad?

I do not want to move because i have a nice house close to downtown
It has a garden, a kitchen, a living room, shelves of books and interestin art on the walls
It is warm in winter and cool in summer
I guess i like comfort.
I do not want to move because it will no longer be my life, it will be Davids.
I will be his appendage

wrong kind of pots , has no one read Whos afraid of Virgina Woolf

i am going home tonight and i am going to have a huge talk, i just dont know how to do that without yelling
but that drink idea sounds good

i will organize a piss up with my "mates" tomorrow.

I think the line you need to muse on most is line number five above. I do not want to move because it will no longer be my life, it will be Davids. Whose life is it now? How does David feel about this? The other stuff is merely surroundings, don't tell me you can't take the art with you.

English as a major: dud. Deciding to study a new field after being in a different one for 7 years: classic. Madison: nice city.

just be honest and admit you wanna stay at college for the rest of your life, nothing wrong with that, finish the art history, then do English and then do a masters in cinematography, then become a research assistant and then eventually a professor. hope this helps!

england's a major dud, english - depends on what you do, I suverted the whole system by doing a non-standard english major where i studied philosopy, art history, religion etc, and never touched a text written before 1860 - so see what yr uni offeres...don't throw pot, it's expensive, same with rock crack - the glass shatters everywhere, and inhaling it from the carpet is a no-no.

You must know everything there is to know about Art History after 7 years. Why would switching to English require 2 degrees? Strange foreign universities.

How old are you?

Why do you want random advice from total strangers? Why not write to Dear Deirdre / Miriam / any other agony aunt / uncle who would presumably also be a total stranger?

twenty-three years pass...

Deceptive url
