Michael Jackson's retort on Fox

Okay, so Bashir buttered Jackson up and was revealed to be slightly sleazy -- big deal. It's not surprising, nor is it what people were all up in arms about. The shocking stuff in the stuff that Jackson HIMSELF said and did, not Bashir.

Watching his filler-choked retort show to Bashir's report, and the mind remains unchanged. Moreover, Debbie Rowe is coming across as mighty weird herself.

At least Bashir's show had a tiny bit of objectivity.

no one is objective.

certainly least of all Jacko.

Millar (Millar), Friday, 21 February 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Bashir could have put a spin on his show to show Jackson as the true humanitarian he is.

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 21 February 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"...the true humanitarian he is."

I do so hope you're being facetious.

It's funny, I thought MJ was a sicko freak for sure until tonight. I genuinely believe what he and his ex are saying and also believe that for whatever reason (probably to remain a serious no holds barred journalist), Bashir or whatever his name is decided to edit the story into a more shocking, but not accusatory, spectacle.

Scaredy Cat, Friday, 21 February 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Maury Povich has hit a new low.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 21 February 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bashir or whatever his name is decided to edit the story into a more shocking"

If the initial spectacle was merely a collage of scandalous editing as you insist, how do you possibly explain a context in which certain portions of interview would be appropriate and acceptable? Bashir's tactics are not the issue.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 21 February 2003 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"how do you possibly explain a context in which certain portions of interview would be appropriate and acceptable?"

I think I am too stupid to understand this question.

Scaredy Cat, Friday, 21 February 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Meaning: how do explain away Jackson sleeping in the same bed with children? How do you explain Jackson taking his kids to a paparazzi-choked zoo? How do you explain his bizarre rendition of the births of his children? Etc. etc. etc.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

alex is a bit obsessive abt this topic, scaredy cat: he feels he's seen some vast deep evil the entire rest of the world has missed, but he never actually says what it IS, just shouts at other ppl for not seeing it

Mark S. has both an axe to grind and a persecution complex, Scaredy. If I'm going to waste time obsessing about something, I wouldn't bother doing it online. I merely find the whole MJ thing amusing.

*sigh* yes, hilariously amusing, the persecution of a man whose mind is apparently collapsing under a tide of media pressure (dishonest media pressure in bashir's case)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

After flipping between both specials on Monday, I'm all MJ-ed out.

hstencil, Friday, 21 February 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

the interview made me almost certain michael jackson's relationship with children is entirely innocent
thats not to say its not fucked up and strange, but i think its just like kids hanging out with an admittedly really weird twelve year old
what did he say on fox though
was it a direct response to the bashir program?

robin (robin), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

boxcubed has issues with his father

boxcubed (boxcubed), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I think he's a weird man, but not child-molestingly weird. He has certain social problems based on his weirdly huge popularity. Kurt Cobain said the same kind of stuff about the isolation and loneliness...

As for the zoo, like MJ said, "he's not a soothesayer", he thought the zoo would be closed.

Scaredy Cat, Friday, 21 February 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, he thought the Zoo would be closed, but when he saw that it wasn't, he shoulda turned his weird ass arond and gotten back in the limo.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i accept the 'zoo was supposed to be closed' bit but agree with alex.

then again, how can he not be f'in weird? His life has been nothing but weird. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 21 February 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Imagine the warped self- concept he must have. I think deep down he's probably dull.

a man whose mind is apparently collapsing under a tide of media pressure

His nose is collapsing under the tide of atmospheric pressure present on this small blue-green watery planet.
