Please help save a football club

This is genuine - York have been bled dry and asset stripped by arseholes to the brink of extinction.

Dear all,

I know I've all bored you rigid with the topic of York City's plight in the last few months. Well now it's crunch time. We are on the verge of the Supporters Trust saving the club in a takeover bid and hopefully some brighter times ahead.

However, the next few days are crucial. The adminstrator, in his wisdom, has just announced that we are essentially £60,000 short of a workable deal. And guess what? We need that money by the end of the weekend. If we don't raise this, we are dead. Simple as that. There are no saviours, no one is offering to help, it's just down to us the fans.

I wouldn't normally do this, but the situation is so grave, I hope you don't me asking. Below is the link to the Supporters Trust donations page. If you can in any way help by pledging - whether it be one pound or a tenner or whatever - I will love you all forever. If you're sick of me going on or couldn't give a stuff, feel free to ignore this email, but if you feel you can help, it will not go unnoticed. You will literally be helping save our club from going out of existence and facilitating a fans' takeover. Please remember the donations need to be made essentially within the next two days.

The Link. There's an option to make a one off payment with a credit card at the bottom. Be assured that all payments are secure.

Finally, if you think there's anyone you know who has a bottomless wallet and/or a heart of gold and is susceptible to emotional blackmail - particularly footie fans - please forward them this message.

Just bumping back to the top...

York City have a footbal team?

(keeping it at the top for you)

Lara (Lara), Friday, 21 February 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

They do have a football team. But won't come Monday morning.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 February 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Man... I really wish I had any money at all at the moment to give, but honest to god I'm broke. I've read about York's plight over at rivals.net, and it's a fucking disgrace. As a fan of a team myself that's seen the football placed second to the business interests of an elite few, all I really can do is bump this.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheers Dom. I fear there's worse to come from the Cobblers. There's something very fishy about the Ellis business and I've got 2 and 1.5 but can't find the smoking gun to like him with some other stuff going on. Yet. Hopefully, it's my fevered imagination, but I've not been proved wrong by a Chairman yet, sadly.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I actually got off my arse and donated. Will I do the same next time someone asks me to give to a more charitable cause? I don't know. I do know, as a Wimbledon fan of 2 decades standing, how important this is for thousands of people.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Well why aren't they donating then? You will be sick if York get through this and beat Wimbledon in a freak meeting!

I'll be the girl in the terraces shouting 'Traitor' and pointing at YOU.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheers Mark. Ad hoc group being formed called 'Supporters fucked over by Douglas Craig'. Membership open to Wimbledon and York fans.

Hopefully, they'll get through it, and then as a fan owned club, they can play AFC Wimbledon for the prestigious Supporters Direct Trust Cup.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

But but but... they'll win!

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah...they'll be playing youth teamers as that's all they 'll be able to afford.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 February 2003 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, okay then. Our team of doughty amateurs (OR ARE THEY?) will surely turn them over.

Maybe see you tomorrow on the terraces if I can crawl off my sickbed...

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 21 February 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah...they'll be playing youth teamers as that's all they 'll be able to afford.

Perhaps you could sign Keith Welch, Jamie Forrester, Roy Hunter, David Savage, or any of the other Division 1 class first team players Northampton Town have let go on a free transfer over the past year? You can't have Marco Gabbiadini, though, because we're keeping him on a £5,000 a week guaranteed contract.

Again I am a broke student but I can only say I really hope this works out Dave, obviously over here you read about the financial situations of the clubs but it didn't really hit home until reading this thread what a horrible thing it is. All credit to you for trying to sort it, though I guess that's useless to you if it doesn't succeed.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 21 February 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope it works out too, but I have my own financial troubles right now. I'd dig down to do something if it were my beloved Bristol Rovers of course. I may have to do just that before long.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 21 February 2003 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom, I don't suppose you could put that all in a mail to Terry Eames, could you? Assuming they all want to play fro free, that is.

Football sucks right now. AFC Wimbledon is a bit of an unusual thing, because they're rich, successful and great fun to follow. We'll ignore the fact that they're 4 divisions lower than York and Northampton right now.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 21 February 2003 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

But, hey Mark, there's always next season...
