jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

chat stopped working for me two days ago, too. :(

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

well try inviting us tossers (dtcdthingy)

Graham (graham), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Chat is generally fucked right now, alas. But don't worry, Mark S, this means you're just easing in slowly before Mass Chat Action takes over your soul.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah me too im bored

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even be invited. :( It fails.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the difference might be that i'm using AOL itself and you are all on AIM

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but, as an AIMer, chat used to work for me just fine (aside from occasional net hiccups) until two days ago. And I'm not alone. Someone must have fucked up the code that takes AIM chat packets or something. (the messaging itself still works all 'round)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 23 February 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

or maybe it's the dreaded...

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 23 February 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have AIM either. I installed gaim on my work machine the other day, but can't be arsed setting up an account yet.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 23 February 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

this is news?

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 23 February 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Julio, we never did get round to chatting. Sorry.

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

its alright. its mostly my fault as I'm crap with technology. maybe someday.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm sure I'll come to a London FAP sometimes anyway so.

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

when you turn up we'll all hide, then blame it on technology

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm grimstitch, but damn - I wish this wasn't the ilx chat program of choice. It's garbage.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 23 February 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

cozen- I look forward to the day I can buy you a pint (and don't pay attention to mark: we shall not hide from you).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

A suggestion for those who hate the AIM client: Trillian (www.trillian.cc) is a multiclient program that supports protocols by ICQ/MSN/AIM/AOL/YAHOO. Once you tweak it a bit, the interface is really nice, and it's hella convenient to have all yr ICQ/MSN/AIM contacts available in one list via one program...

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I am on AIM now. Is there a chat going on?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

its mostly my fault as I'm crap with technology

This man is doing a scientific doctorate at my university. Fortunately I am in charge of the software student systems, so I can have him expunged from all the databases tomorrow.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah is there a chat now, i would make one but mine is fux00red

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

AIM isn't technology!

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Is AIM, as I suspect, the reason ILE is so shit-boring at night time?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 24 February 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

chat is still fuxored for me for some reason

mark s (mark s), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

as i am just about to take 2 hrs kip this is a good thing

mark s (mark s), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It will make sense one day, Ned. Just not yet.

Astounding!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark, you will miss the Simpsons!

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Aim works for me on and off... Secretly, I think it hates me. (Aimee7672)

luna (luna.c), Monday, 24 February 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ok chat is sorted

mark s (mark s), Monday, 24 February 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there one now?

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, there is CHAT MADNESS

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Is AIM, as I suspect, the reason ILE is so shit-boring at night time?

No. There are reasons much more U&K.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

There's that nutty sleep thing, I hear people do that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean between 10pm and maybe midnight GMT. There used to be lots of activity on the boards but now it has a tendency to be completely dead so I reckoned people were on AIM as it is highly unlikely that all of a sudden a huge percentage of the people here have discovered that there is more to life than ILE. Try not to be shocked if you have never heard this suggested before.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I couldn't see anyone on AIM at 10pm last night. ILE was dull so I tried to make music in bed.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah gareth told me to turn my AIM thingy on a couple of weeks ago and I hvae seen not a pip out of hime. i know he lives in a hectic social whorl but he never writes he never calls......

that's not entirely true.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

the chat things works for ten minutes then tells me i need more memory close some windows, but the only window open is the chat thing

if i shut it off fast enough, the computer doesn't crash

i assume i need to assign something more memory but i'm not sure how

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

gsdali?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I tried to make music in bed.

What are you saying here, Ed??

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

choose the application in the finder then choose get info from the file menu. choos the menory option in the menu in the window produced. There will be three boxes, suggested minimum and prefered. increase the size of the prefered memory allocation.

How much memeory does your Mac have ?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(if your iMac has a free slot, I have an 128MB DIMM that's looking for a home)

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think its gsdali@mac.com, but how come I never see you on line. email me the exact spelling.

Making music in bed = me fiddling with reason in the warmest place in the flat.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

TMI d00d

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ok ed i tried that but it won't allow me to change it, it just gives me an absolute figure

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you can't do it while the programme is running.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

buiult-in mem 256 MB, virtual 400MB as currently set-up

(available for use on disc: 32480M)

it's os9

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

aha!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Also see is the locked check box is checked under the 'General' section.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ok i just quadrupled preferred memory, so we'll see

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Get OS X mark, come to the dark side.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i have osX it's on the flip of my screen

but i hate it

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

damn I'm the only one without this now!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

why? everything works so much better.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hello dunnedin!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

no it doesn't ed: for word and quark, the main apps i use for work, i still have to switch back to os9 (if i use "classic platform" it basically fuXoRs everything and the helpline ppl said UNDER NO CIRCS DO THAT!!)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah Quark. The single thing stopping people from taking advantage of OSX, I assumed you only did Quark type stuff at the office but seeing as this was based on no knowledge at all.

Word v.X is lovely though.

I now no longer have classic on my machine. (except for kate's gigs)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Quark works fine in Classic mode on my mac!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i hated word 97=98 *so much* that i'm still tending to translate stuff BACK to word 5.1 (which a lot of my early stuff is still in)

i realise this is a bit dumm, but i just got so pissed off with stupid features having to be cleared out of the way, and autoformatting i didn't want and stuff: if word vX has sorted that i might give it a try

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

No autoformatting, you may be able to turn it on but I haven't, no word assistant. It works very well.

Quark, if you are listening, pissing your customers off is not a good business model.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I still hate Word. It needs a single button that says "You're only a fucking word processor" so you could switch off about 98% of it at once.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Word 98 is universally known as WORST WORD EVER because it tried to turn a Mac into a PC. It got leagues better after everyone started to ditch microsoft and they turned around quite nicely for word 2k, and its sorta a pain to set what you WANT to autoformat or not but I've found it more helpful than not lately now that I've gotten a grasp on how to muck with its funny features.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to muck with yr funny features is my new chat-up line

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

you will never learn its predecessor
