Is staying up really really late bad for your health?

I'm up 'til 4-5 am every night, but I don't have classes until late so I still get 6-7 hours of sleep. Is there something intrinsically bad for one's health about staying up so late, regardless of whether or not one gets a decent amount of sleep after? I'm not too worried about getting pale, but it seems like I heard somewhere that staying up late is bad for your heart.

as long as you're getting plenty of sunshine everything should be okay

Everyone has their own sleep cycle and you should stick to what feels natural for you. Some people sleep only four hours a day, some sleep all the time, whatever.

The only thing that is important for MENTAL health rather than physical is that sleep is a pattern. Whatever pattern you have, be consistent with it. Don't stay up till 4 in the morning 4 nights a week and get up at 6am nights a week, *that* will seriously fuck you up.

I always wondered how Kafka could manage having a full time job as a clerk in the day and write his incredible novels in the night. Then he was an owl I guess.

I read in his diaries he had very strange sleeping habits. he could sleep days on end or stay awake night after night. I don't know if he is an example or not.

you end up waking one morning being metamorphosed in some beetle.

And it left him more disposed to contract and die of tuberculosis.

*shrug* At least we have the Brothers Quay to continue his legacy.

I think research has proven links with amount of sleep rather than when you sleep.

I wish I could only sleep 3-4 hrs a day rather than the 6-8 hours that I normally do.

never enough hours.

I sometimes go to bed late safe in the knowledge that I will then sleep soundly, whereas if I went to bed early I would only lie awake for considerable periods of time and get irritable.
