And an endless and heartfelt 'thank you' to everyone

A lot of you know that my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few weeks back. It was detected very early -- my dad's been getting himself regularly checked for years -- but I had my worries and concerns, especially since surgery was the way forward. I've tried not to talk about it too much on the board because I've felt it would be an imposition -- mentioned it briefly once, I think -- but a number of you have dealt with my e-mails, my IMs and more on the matter. All the evidence was that it was going to go off without a hitch, but you can't be content with that until it's actually happened.

Just wanted to say that my dad's surgery was this morning, and that the cancer was indeed judged not to have spread beyond the very small space it was in already. He went through it brilliantly, is already out of the recovery room, and I spoke to him briefly -- admittedly he's still woozy! -- just now. Looks like all is going to be well. :-) I'm due to see him, not this weekend, but the one after it, when I go home for a quick weekend visit.

It's an unfun world in general, even more so than before, but something like this at least puts a little more spring in my step. For everyone I did talk to about this, even briefly, my endless thanks, and to everyone in general for being the good eggs y'all are that keep me here, keep being cool. :-)

Yay for your dad!!!, mine had a scare with this too recently and it's unnerving to say the least. It's much more of a wakeup call than, say beating him at chess for the first time.

That is good news, Ned! My mom's boss was diagnosed with it and had surgery a few years ago, and he's doing fine now, so I'm sure your dad will do equally well.

I wasn't aware of this either Ned, but I am very pleased to hear all went well :) My grandfather recently had a thyroid cancer removed and it was a very similar situation - they got it in good time, it was still "non invasive" so he recovered amazingly (considering he's in his eighties). Best wishes to you and yours.
