Is anyone really into kites? I'm thinking I really want to become a "kite-artist" when I get older.

I love kites, I don't fly them too often anymore though. There's something so fantastic about the tension on the line once you get a kite flying.

They are pretty impressive kite there.
I've got a power kite, it very powerful but not quite enough to lift me. I really want to have a go at Kite surfing, which looks toadally rad, but the kit is very expensive.

A Nairn - drop me an email with your address and I'll send you a book on kite design. It was a gift and is a great book but I'm not going to get around to making any kites anytime soon so if you'd like it, it's yours.

Kites are graet I have a some friends who help run a kite festival in Bristol. I haven't flown one for ages though.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

And you should read Kiteworld by Keith Roberts - it's a good book.

Lynskey beat me to posting. Our kite is ace... it's just a little stunt kite, it's always in the boot of the car, just in case.

two years pass...
I'm overcome with the urge to fly a kite this weekend.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 16 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

oh go fly a kite

metal detective (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 16 June 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

to do:

1. build a kite large and strong enough to fly me out of my miserable life.

2. failing that, attach a video camera to a kite to film cheap aerial shots for a movie about being stuck in a miserable life.

i used to be so into them just before i hit puberty. I still have a stunt kite in a closet somewhere that i've never used. if i did it now, i'd probably get something like a chinese box kite, something that would stay up there with good tension and be relaxing to fly.

that last pic scares the shit out of me.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

There was a kite festival on Streatham Common on my birthday! They had big green alien kites and everything. I am so sorry that I missed it, but the pictures in the local paper looked great.

one year passes...
can you buy kites that make noise somewhere? i could probably make a sled kite and attach some whistles to it, but i suck at building things

Python... No Bite :B (flezaffe), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 10:22 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

i still suck at building things, but if you use gift ribbon for a bridle, the kite hums in the air.

this is my current kite:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/fez_/ilx/IMG_0266.jpg

the idea was to make it near invisble and hang glittery things at the tail, but the glitter weighed it down, so im just flying an invisible kite these days. story of my life.

, Monday, 6 April 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

why do you want an invisible kite?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 6 April 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

im too old to fly a kite, i want to keep it a secret.

, Monday, 6 April 2009 19:10 (sixteen years ago)

i have never flown a kite, but when i was a kid i thought my dad's story of flying kites with pieces of broken bottle attached to them and having battles sounded pretty cool.
