Adding a little Kahlua to your coffee at work - a slippery slope or a harmless way to take the edge off the day?
Full Disclosure: I haven't actually tried this yet but it's tempting...

Minky Starshine (Minky Starshine), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Hee! Just think of it as being equivalent to having a swift half at lunchtime. Everyone does it!

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

damn this puritan country I live in! That actually sounds like a good idea. Maybe I could sneak my flask in.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, may be more like a swift half at breakfast time :)

Minky Starshine (Minky Starshine), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Cor.

*wide eyes of happiness*

That is a FANTASTIC idea.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a little bottle of rum like you get on the airplane in my desk that my boss brought back for me from his vacation about 6 months ago. Every once in while I'm tempted to put some in my coffee, mostly when things get tense, but haven't succumbed yet either.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I had caffeine in my coffee this morning. That made me crazy enough. I was dancing in the work room (no one saw me, I think).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw you! You were fucking a bear.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

When working at MVE it was/is nice to substitute tea with Baileys as was the same colour and our 'managers' were the ones who started it.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

That was a bear? I thought it was the hairy janitor!

No One (SiggyBaby), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I imagine that my office has a lovely young maid, not a big hairy janitor.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

mmm irish coffee in the morning

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I had no idea of this practice but it sounds very classic indeed.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The janitor/bearfucking practice or boozy coffee?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone used to always ask why a co-workers breath was so minty fresh-101 proof pepperment schnopps.

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
Schnopps?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

coffee/drinking in the morning crossover wahey

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Popping a wee dram into yer coffee is something quite encouraged by Italians, in fact its called a "caffe corretto" (sp?) which means "corrected coffee", I love that name. Once when I was at my Italian ex's parents place, they had a guy fixing something out back and his dad kept making the workman correttos "per la forza".

God my italian is shite.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed the word "dram" the first time I read this and was all "GOOD GOD I AM NEVER DRINKING ITALIAN COFFEE AGAIN" for a second.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Bad idea for me...the reason I drink so much coffee and Coke at work is because my work is already soporifically boring.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

god help me do i like this stuff?
office admin woman makes hazelnut in the morning and it smells good in a way but under the surface there is a vileness
so i added some to regular coffee to see and kind of liked it :/

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

maybe it is like a nice car with a terrible decal

or a good-looking person with the wrong colour lipstick
or bad perfume

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

or maybe it is just wrong and bad and i had a weak moment

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, if you put kahlua in yr coffe, could people smell the bouze on yr breath, or in some other fashion such as smelling it in the coffee?

Abbott, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

I've never tasted Kahlua, but I assume someone would have to actually put their face in the cup to smell it. That's assuming you're adding cold Kahlua to hot coffee. If you're, like, actually adding heat to the coffee-kahlua mix, maybe that'd be different.

re: on yr breath, chew gum!

disclaimer: I have never dranked at work.

Will M., Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

2 beers/drinks at home/bar = just getting started
2 beers/drinks at work = damn, i'm so fucked up

carne asada, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

Hazelnut is probably the best of the flavored coffees. Yr trip really starts to go south when you pull into Irish Creamville or Butterscotch Rumtown.

libcrypt, Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

Cinnamon ftw (but hazelnut is pretty cool, as long as you don't add too much. I used to have a bottle of the syrup at work but someone nicked it)

Mark C, Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)

It's not a "flavored" coffee if the flavor is real and not some jive-ass syrup or "built-in" to the beans. Adding real cinnamon can be a win, but a dash of nutmeg is better.

libcrypt, Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

i like coffee flavored coffee

carne asada, Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

old skool

Mark C, Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

the coffee thing here has hazelnut and also abominations such as german chocolate and vanilla cream. not only does the pantry area reek of chemical flavoring for a while after someone brews one, but the disgustingness sticks to the filter so you have to brew plain hot water through a few times if you want a normal cup.

grossest thing: the woman who likes hazelnut with lots of cream and SIX splenda packets.

lauren, Thursday, 25 October 2007 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Pumpkin is big this time of year. I like it, but only one cup.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 25 October 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

work coffe black, but pint at lunch

sexyDancer, Thursday, 25 October 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Gah they make some hazelnut vanilla bullshit here too and we're all in one medium-sized room so the whole space smells like fake hazelnut. Gross.
