I am 30 next month. I'm having a party on Friday 21st - don't know where yet; we'll be hiring a room in a pub, playing records, drinking, dancing, etc. I'm mentioning it now because you're all invited!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

the whole of interweb mentalism will be there!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah! :-) It will be a fine day. 30's a cool age, I sez. :-) (Oh, and remind me -- still Oct. 17th for the wedding thing? trying to plan for cheap flights here!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned - not planned that far ahead but yes thats the obvious date.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

can I bring my andrew wk cd?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The rate my hair is growing, yes.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

hb in advance. i thought you were quite a bit older, no off. intended

ron (ron), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I expect I'll be there - I am turning into one of the most regular FAPpers, and celebrating your birthday obviously ups the importance and appeal.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

this is where living in NYC is NOT an advantage...

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the international telepaths are playing a gig then, we'll drink a beer in yr honour.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there. Can I DJ some? I have exciting new sounds.

Al Ewing (Al Ewing), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

ph34r

(also: yes)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 27 February 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

hurrah for tom!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 February 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to come, sounds like a great do, and seeing as i havent got to an FAP yet...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 February 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Something to do. Can we make you wear a crown Tom?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 27 February 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(would it be so wrong for me to reorder a message or two on this thread?)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 27 February 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ph34r? Eh? Wot?

Al Ewing (Al Ewing), Thursday, 27 February 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I ph34r yr exciting new sounds Al.

Oh I read some of those new comics you have been recommending, they were grebt.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom R it going to be in K___y's? Ph34r...

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there going to be a FAP in the intermeantime? There are stupid dancing strategies to be worked out here.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

21st is the same as the presentation I've got to do (with questions afterwards of course).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

NO IT IS NOT SARAH.

Yeah there should be a FAP.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank the gods.

The A_b__t?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be nowhere near our house - I do not want back-to-mine shenanigans on the Friday thankyou.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

SHAME.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, do you hate fun?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually GOOD THINKING Tom, let's have it in Peckham and go back to Tims.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Sadly I am homeless.

Nevertheless, I think to place limits on the time allotted for us to hear TCDJ3M and TDDJ3M is criminal.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 28 February 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Tim, if you need a home.....

Pete (Pete), Friday, 28 February 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

All back to Pete's.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 28 February 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as one of you will pay the rent.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 28 February 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

IMPORTANT BIRTHDAY DETAILS

The party will be in the BLUE POSTS on RUPERT STREET in SoHo, in the upstairs room. It's starting at 6 and we have the room until 11, but no need for Spanish shame - the pub stays open until 1, we just don't have exclusive use of the room.

Please do come and invite anyone who knows (of) me - I've promised them lots of people.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to the top of NEW ANSWERS with you for the vital news that the first 20 or so attendees to arrive will get a FREE CD!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

For once I'm likely to be showing up lateish! Damn!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 March 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there at 5.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 March 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello ILE people! Come to my party!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I expect to be lateish, amybe 8, but I'll be there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey chums, remember that's the Blue Posts on Rupert Street NOT the Blue Posts on Newman St. I made the equal and opposite mistake once and ended up getting to the pub an hour late and £30 poorer (the Berwick St record shops had a hand in this, admittedly).

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Or even the Blue Posts on Berwick Steet... or the one on Ganton Street. Actually, I think there are approximately 67 pubs called the Blue Posts in and around the Soho area.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt there are 5 - a favourite old pub crawl encompasses them all.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(I miss the fabled now lost sixth - that used to be the roughest pub on Tottenham COurt Road and is now - quite incongruously - a Boots).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Myabe it can be the roughest boots, if you can have a rough boots, I dunno.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be there at 6, i expect.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there at sometime, I'm taking the bus, I like the bus.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be there bright anmd early finishing at three as I do.

That alley that smells of nastiness' official name is porn alley. It's horrible, as is Rupert street, let's face it.

chris (chris), Friday, 21 March 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't mean the alley under Raym*nd's Revue Bar, Chris.

It is possible you indulge in Acupuncture p*or but if so I don't want to hear about it.

But yes, Rupert St is nasty. Cheapo's, though, y'know: that's grebt.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 21 March 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a good second hand book stall on there on Saturdays too.

chris (chris), Friday, 21 March 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not selling Rupert St very well chaps. Ho hum, with a couple of pints your ability to appreciate the smell dimishes, and the horror gets blurry.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 21 March 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Rupert Street contains the Other Cinema. It used to be called the Metro Cinema. Even though its name has changed, it certainly remains a fine purveyor of interesting films from off the beaten Hollywood track. As if that were not enough, Rupert Street offers a handy route of access into the popular local branch of the HMV shop. This is very handy for purchasing newly-released compact discs and "DVD"s. I certainly recommend it as a "stopping off" point before your continued journey homewards of an evening.

Tony Control, Friday, 21 March 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Even though its name has changed, it certainly remains a fine purveyor of interesting films from off the beaten Hollywood track.

I know... I'd been looking for Anal Invader 6 for ages.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 March 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna was that you I saw going into the Garage last night? I was heading for the pub and thence into the dingefest that is the Buffalo Bars.

Yeah, I went to see my mates' band followed by Earl Brutus.

(My friends' band plug: The Randoms! They're really good. Go and see them.)

Anna (Anna), Friday, 21 March 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

HAPPY RUIN TOM EWING

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 March 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Slight adjustment: I won't be there until between 8.30 and 9 - I have another birthday drink first, except they are going to eat at some posh Mediterranean nouvelle cuisine place, which isn't for me at all, so I shall leave them at that point and join Tom's more convivial celebrations.

Obviously this will make no difference to anyone, but as has been well established, I like to keep ILX well apprised of my movements...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 21 March 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you feeling more regular these days?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 March 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin not there at 5.05pm shocka.

It looks very much like I won't make it unless v.late (and poss with my mother-in-law in tow! - she's fun), but v.likely not at all. Bummer. Anyway have a great nite folks especially Tom. Max damage in prospect I reckon. Get a hangover for me.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 21 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Right I am off to the PARTY. I have all the FREE CDS!! I hope lots of you will TURN UP!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 21 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to hire a motorcycle courier to get the CDs to not-in-the-pub Tom in time.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 21 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not sure i can make it sadly :( but i was going to suggest an FAP next week to compensate...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 March 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(stevem if you can't, drop me an email about that Nicolette LP on SUAD)

Tim (Tim), Friday, 21 March 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Go, go, go, go
Go, go, go shawty
It's your birthday
We gon' party like it's yo birthday
We gon' sip Bacardi like it's your birthday
And you know we don't give a fuck
It's not your birthday!

Chris V. (Chris V), Saturday, 22 March 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's still not my birthday yet. I am still drunk I think. Thankyou everyone for coming.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 22 March 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I already was far, far too drunk to be of any real use to anyone when I arrived at the pub, sadly. So apologies for jabbering incoherantly at people, or (more likely) not jabbering at all. I didn't make it to my second party... and decided to take myself off home and pass out with dignity.

Still, nice to see everyone... happy birthday Tom. Your CD is inestimately good. I'm hoping to christen my new stereo with it this evening.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 22 March 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It was fun! Thanks for the CD Tom!

Sorry about my reneditions of A Thousand Miles and Here I Go Again to people who heard them, I wasn't even drunk.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 22 March 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

apologies to everyone I had contact with.

grraham, Saturday, 22 March 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ehh everyone's apologizing! England really is like Tim H. says. OK: Sorry I couldn't make it. Happy B-day Tom.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 22 March 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve - I'm up for a pint next week, provided it's not on Tuesday or Wednesday. I am sorry I can't make either of these days.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 22 March 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a good time, though as ever there were people I regret not talking to at all or more. And no one I talked to enough, really, though I was pleased to have a bit of time talking to people I haven't got to know nearly enough yet, such as Lixi and Andrew (it impresses the hell out of me, travelling to London from Dublin for a FAP).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 22 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I look forward to listening to the free jazz stuff tom burnt for me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 22 March 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry for not coming Tom. Have a happy birthing day.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 22 March 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Happy official Bday Tom, sorry I cldn't make yr pissup (I actually walked past the Blue Posts on Friday eve, on my way to another bday party, and the temptation to pop in for a quick one was v. great, but that way lay madness...)

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 23 March 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

cheers for a great night you lot :-)

DG (D_To_The_G), Sunday, 23 March 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a great time, and also enjoyed Saturday, but the London Knowledge of ILX let me down on Sunday: I rose for a taxi at 4.15, got to Liverpool Street Station at 4.30, got a Stansted Express bus at 4.40 and got to Stansted at 5.30. For a 8.10 flight. But it was foggy in Dublin, so once we got onto the plane it sat on the runway for two hours. Christ.

Er, happy birthday, Tom!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey Andrew, that must be the quickest journey to Stansted ever!

chris (chris), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Air piano to Vanessa Carlton == the best thing in the world ever!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to the second bit of Tom's CD now and... hang on... that's a familiar string riff... who's this guy singing in German. Hang on - it can't be... IT IS! It's 'Boys' by BON, the song with the greatest video of all time in German! I thought I was the only person in the world who liked that song.

Tom, you've just made my week, and it's only Monday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeurgh Starry, that piece of mentalism gave me TH33 PH34R. I am also alarmed by accounts of the birthday CD.

Had a nice Friday evening when I and R0bst3r finally turned up at the pub, and a bit of a mad Saturday afternoon after it seemed like half ILE appeared at my new favourite local and proceeded to wave fluourescent green goolies about the place. O Prospect Golden Ale, how I adore thee. And I made the bestest drunken curry EVAH when we got home, and didn't have any hangover business or nuffink!

Hope Tom had a grebt birthday and enjoyed his brane sossidge.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

GUBEZ!!!!!!!!

chris (chris), Monday, 24 March 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The CD is indeed grebt: is there a tracklisting somewhere? Listening to Kelly Osborne out-Donna the Donnas.

We want fun and you might as well face it!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Speak for yourself.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim do you hate fun?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Fun's rub.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to know whats on the CD!

that BON video, bloody hell, and you thought TATU were racy...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

The tracklisting has been delayed by the fact that I don't actually have a copy myself any more. Unless one got abandoned in our stereo on Saturday, which is possible.

The one Jel is talking about is "I Luv You" by Dizzy (Dizzee?) Rascal. The one Matt is talking about is of course "Boys" by BON.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I still have the master (the master that works!) here Tom if you want one (or a few) more. But I can't start running loads off, obv.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to hear said CD, can someone put it up somewhere? soulseek?
Sorry I couldn't make it Tom, hpp brthdy..

nick.K (nick.K), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I need to say a few words on that BON video. The opening strings are accompanied by the image of the sun shining in on the window of a bedroom where cool young boyband stud wakes up following a night of raunchiness with a foxy young lady. As do his mates in adjoining rooms. But - oh no! They're in a CONVENT! Oh no! And young Tabitha and Jemima cannot be doing with being caught out by the nuns. So the boys sneak off if their pants, but OH NO, the nuns are in hot pursuit and are CHASING them. Meanwhile legions of foxy young (ie really about 21) schoolgirls in p0rn-friendly uniforms and miniscule skirts are stalking down the corridor, footage cutting back and forward between them and the nuns. Then, at one point during the chorus (which would be the greatest Britney song EVER), one of the schoolgirls pulls out a red lollipop for betwixt her cherry-red lips, sings "BOYS!", puts it back in again with a coquettish glint in her eye and continues her stride while the nuns continue chasing the studlets. I think there's some hot shower action as well, although I can't quite remember, perhaps I'm going blind. Then on the first "BOYS!" in the final chorus, all the nuns whip off their habits to reveal yet more lithe things in bikinis and start dancing, at which point (and this is the real clincher), the word BOYS! flashes up in huge lights behind them.

If there was Tatuesque lez-up action in there as well, I think I could die right there. In fact, I probably would.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

You are a prevert Mr DC. But it does sound v v amusing. They should probs have a caveat at the end about nuns not being hott IRL, like those ruddy huuge 'SMOKING KILLS' notices on fag packets these days.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

dont think BON's 'Boys' is as good as Britney's 'Boys', of course Sabirina beats them all with her Boys

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

We like the boys, the boys that go BOOM!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I have just listened to the whole CD. It's good!

I liked some bits of the Super Mario Dance Hall songs, Come on Eileen, Shut Up, We Want Fun, the Indain(?) song that sounds like the kind of thing that Enid was listening to at the beginning of Ghostworld, Boys (liked that when it first came out), and the Hives/Lisa Left Eye bootleg. Only song I thought was really rub was the one that goes "where's your child?", I bet it was LCD Soundsystem.

I've made notes on all the songs.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 24 March 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I have listened to it too, up to about track 18.

the pinefox, Monday, 24 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the thread where we discuss Tom's birthday CD

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Jel, 'Where's Your Child' by Bam Bam is my favourite song on the CD!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 24 March 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My CD has been abandoned in Tom's lounge somewhere, which is annoying... still it means there is a copy for him to copy/distribute if necessary.
