Thread Six Blind Items

Which girl group frontwoman's career has survived despite a stubborn mustache that has to be digitally edited from her videos? Which precocious indie-rocker spends time way too much time in front of the mirror -- half of it spent with rolled-up bills, the other half feverishly mucking with his bedhead? Which bewitching former teen star similarly suffers from a mysteriously runny nose? Which actor with a Christ-like complex has Hollywood's biggest cock? He's been known to get California burning, and there's enough video out there to build a body of evidence...

Yanc3y Adams (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Last question - Willem Defoe.

Is that the point? Are we supposed to answer them?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The NY Post runs these "Blind Items" all the time, and they're always phrased this way.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it Dafoe with the moster cack? I was thinking Spacey or Walken or someone.

And what former childstar isn't on drugs?

Aaron A., Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Guess the former teen star has got to be someone out of "Bewitched", then. Erin Murphy?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Beyonce 2. Ryan Adams

I never knew Ed Begley Jr. had a Jesus complex!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Which hipster mag editor and frontman for a hot NYC rock act are both W.M.W.O.D.A.W.'s?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Which very occasional ILE poster has no idea what a W.M.W.O.D.A.W. is?

Nemo (JND), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer's right on the first one, SittingPretty on the last. And Tracer, I know you insist on the glory of Eddie's shlanger, but Willem's is one to be reckoned with. Ask Marty Scorsese!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

(white men who only date asian women)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah to live and die on Willem Dafoe's cock...

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Bewitching teen star surely Melissa Joan Hart, no?

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

only one more to go!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

haven't we got them all?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Not No. 2...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hipster mag editor = gavin?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(eliminate women or gay guys before taking deduction obv., he's all that's left)

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

what mag editor??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, sorry i see it, um - wasn't i on the periphery of just such a conversation last week? of course i wasn't paying attention properly

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

frontman for a hot NYC rock act are both W.M.W.O.D.A.W.'s?

Angus Andrew of the Liars? His gf, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is half-Asian.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, you heard me talking about it last week tracer. you heard the rock band one too. and no, it's not angus that i'm thinking of.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this the most potentially libellous thread evah?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"first time? put your mouth on this..."

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope to God it's Richard Ashcroft with the coke habit. I really do. I will not die happy unless he becomes a penniless collection of streetsmells. So far I have to get by with the knowledge that a mate stabbed him in the leg when they were at school together, leaving him with a permanent scar.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha he is neither 'precocious' nor 'indie'. I'm gonna go with the obvious here and guess someone out of the Strokes.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

bah, cross post!

b-but precocious implies young. Surely one of the Strokes.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

or Chr*s M*rt*n

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

But he has no hair!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

no one can guess that one. i thought i made it way too obvious. there are some clues within the question.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark: as if WD is going to sue because a bunch of interweb mentalists say he has the biggest knob in Hollywood ;-). Also I think the drugtalk in the NME gossip of late is to cover their asses when, inevitably, they have to write about the same artists' drug decline. You see, British libel laws make no distinction between different class A's so if you have it on tape that your popstar has dropped an E or acid, from horse's mouth, you can speculate about the smack use all you like later (if they move E to Class B, it has major ramifications for tabloids). Most of these mirror people fall into that category.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and Yanc3y, A. WK?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

no on awk. . . i doubt anyone would guess the asian-loving ny rocker, so we'll forget that one.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Buddy from Interpol? For either one.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

no again. and anyway, someone's gotta have some blind items to share! come on, it's fun!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ARG ITS ADAM GREEN ISN'T IT

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

All my blind items consist of rilly, rilly boring B-list Canadian 'star' gossip and are hence not worth sharing, much less obscuring.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Young Master Kessler? Sorry, it's hard to run out of names for this category of person.

I had some better blind items which are sadly now common knowledge but here's one Mark S knows: which Royal has read the 12-foot-lizards bits concerning his/her gran from the David Icke book out loud to party guests?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh this thread was made for me. You guys are gonna love these:

Which singer for a dangerous new band once broke up with a girlfriend many years ago "because he wanted a sex change operation?" Which rock boy and girl -- known for ass and titties respectively -- have in fact done the deed? What leather-clad electro duo are, despite their cold and detached image, two of the nicest people you will ever meet? Which in-print rock star recently punched the singer of his protegee band in the face for "disrespecting his girlfriend?" Which singer for a bobsled band tries to play down the fact that he was in Reigndance, made famous in the first season of the Real World?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops...I only have five...oh well, guess away.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron, #2 better not be Jack and Meg.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

oh... um... you're half right...

make my #6: What brother and sister rock duo were in fact divorced several years ago and used the brother and sister act to prevent any painful questions -- something everyone in Detroit has known but the rest of the world hasn't quite figured out?

(heh)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan + Meg? Are Fischerspooner leather-clad? Not sure about that, but Warren is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Still half right on item #2. Fischerspooner might be very nice but that's not who I had in mind.

(eeeeee this is fun)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Another hint on "dangerous new band?"

Ah Ha! Julian & Meg.

Electro = Adult.?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y we need more hints for yours.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

For No. 2: He returned to the saddle for his last album, despite a myriad of industry rumors to the contrary...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ding ding Yanc3y!

DANGERous band might be top of the pop

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

precocious indie-rocker

Conor?

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Electric 6 (nice clue). Second to last one is Beck. Final one I'm not sure on -- dunno what "bobsled band" means. All I can think of is Cool Runnings.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ding ding on #1. #5 is sort of obscure (but it's still funny about the Real World thing), so, change it to Bobsled band. (They were also the subject of a scathing email from their label head which made the rounds last year.)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and no on Beck for second to last one.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, I remember that e-mail. Not which band, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Waxwings?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ding ding! (you're good Yanc3y!)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny = OTM

Another hint on the non-Beck one?

(there are a couple I really want to post but I know it would be a very, very bad idea...)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I prolly shouldn't do mine. I have worse stuff (about the same people...heh).

Non-Beck might've been mentioned in this thread already.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, as soon as I posted it I realized it was probably Jack and one of the Sympathy bands. Is that right?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

ding! (all mine had a Detroit theme!)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen the Bitchy Girl article that's making the rounds? Gee, I wonder who it could be...

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer Wicked Whispers.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Who do you think it is Kerry??? Those stories are fantastic. This is my fav:

"The actress was eating with a bunch of friendss at the restaraunt where I worked. She asked for a loose omelette, and when I brought out all of their food, I told the actress that if it was too dry, I would have the chef make her another one. She took one bite, threw the omelette on the floor, and started screaming at me. Everyone else was so mortified about how she had treated me that they left me a huge tip. On her way out, the bitchy actresss picked up the tip, ripped all the bills in half, and them stormed out."

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i mean it could be practically anybody in Hollywood

i would have said Kathleen Turner but she's no size 0

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm going to guess that it's either winona or angelina jolie, and that the young actress is brittany murphy (from 'girl, interrupted')

maura (maura), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking either Renee Z. or Gwyneth P. But my money's on it being a combination of lots of diva-ish horror stories from a bunch of different actresses.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a good point Yanc3y.

Brittany Murphy is too young (sounds like this person has been around for a while).... my first guess was winona.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i meant that the young actress relating the horror story was b murphy.

maura (maura), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah right my bad!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the pain pills gone missing certainly brings winona to mind.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Was any part of Godfather III shot in Paris?

No One (SiggyBaby), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Are the leather-clad electro duo Suicide? They are indeed unbelievably nice--when they played live on my radio show a couple of years ago they were a joy to deal with.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y already figured that one out, Douglas!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Put 100 pounds of chest hair on me and I'm Michael Musto!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

My guess is Michelle Pfeiffer but I think it's more likely a diva medley like Yanc3y said.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
more please!
i'd spill something on the king of the depressed indie geniuses leaving me passive aggressive messages on my answering machine, but i'm no good at writing. yanc3y, aaron, will someone get a column so i can just be a bitter old leak? there must be some blog for indie rock blind items no? cuz those 'sensitive' guys are the fucking worst.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Friday, 10 October 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
this one from popbitch is pretty obvious, even for me!

Which no-longer-newly-wed blonde had a recent
affair with a movie co-star? (According to her
friends, the jackass taught her to enjoy rimming).

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Are they sure it wasn't her dad instead of Johnny Knoxville?

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)
