A rule of three thread. What are your favorite Haribo products? Do you hate Haribo, you Unmensch? Do you have any Haribo stories?

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

What exactly is Haribo again?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheapo-impossible-to-define-a-taste mix.

Oh no - that's all of them.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 27 February 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

The inventors of the Gummi Bear, the company founded by HAns RIegel of BOnn.

I *L*O*V*E* THIS THREAD.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

When I first moved to Germany, I worked in Bonn about a mile from the Haribo factory. The apparantly make the candy in Batches: I was especially fond of Liquorice day, although Happy Cola day was nice too.

We had the same with the Trebor factory in Chesterfield (the only place where the sweet manufacturer rhymes with Trevor apparently). Black Jack day was ok, Trebor mints day was grebt, but Rhubarb and Custard day was positively nauseous, as was Fruit salad day.

chris (chris), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

These are my favorite.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 27 February 2003 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Once a year kids bring chestnuts they gathered from the forest to the Haribo factory in exchange for sweets. Or at least they used to. Funny. I can imagine sweets made out of children, but chestnuts...?

Wintermute (Wintermute), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Yuck - the Haribo 'raspberries' Nicole links to look like fish roe.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmm, raspberry-flavored fish roe...

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 February 2003 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Yuck - the Haribo 'raspberries' Nicole links to look like fish roe.

Now you're just being silly.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 27 February 2003 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Weinland! It has wine in it!! This product would never fly in the US, would it? Candy cigarettes didn't have nicotine in them (or did they?). (BTW, they're TASTY! And the raspberries are amazing!)

four years pass...

I am on the very last of my last bag of Spicy Haribo. It's a sad day.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 19:21 (seven years ago)

Piratos is the best salt liquorice there is. And salt liquorice is the best candy. Ummmmmm.

Frederik B, Friday, 28 December 2018 20:32 (seven years ago)

I have never seen these Haribo before. Not a fan of liquorice flavor though. It's crazy how they only have certain Haribo in certain countries. I've only seen the spicy haribo and the twin bears ( so delicious) in France? Germany?

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:08 (seven years ago)

Online stores are your friend. I assume it's more expensive though.

pomenitul, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:14 (seven years ago)

Yeah it's super expensive. Like how marmite 3-5 times the amount if you try to buy it in the US.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:19 (seven years ago)

I was coming here to say that Haribo is vile, but then Marmite was mentioned and I like Marmite whereas a lot of people don't, so I'm not really in a position to comment. Marmite Haribo would be really really vile though.

Haribo Jelly Babies are the best jelly babies

Driving Drone for Christmas (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 December 2018 21:24 (seven years ago)

I've yet to overcome my fear of Marmite but Haribo is A+.

pomenitul, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:25 (seven years ago)

There are haribo jelly babies???

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:26 (seven years ago)

I would eat all the marmite haribo if they made it. When I was in London in Feb it was a thing that I kept going into every sainsbury/tesco looking for the big squeeze marmite bottle so I could bring back a bunch.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

Jelly Babies in the UK, at least. they're tangier and fruitier than the more celebrated Bassett's version

Driving Drone for Christmas (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 December 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

marmite is also delicious

Driving Drone for Christmas (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 December 2018 21:29 (seven years ago)

oh damn, i have never seen these. I usually get the big box of basset's jelly babies. Although a place in brooklyn has unknown jelly babies sold in bulk in a middle eastern store.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:30 (seven years ago)

It's a known thing that the things I cannot leave London without are 3 biq squeeze bottles of marmite, bog box of jelly babies (they used to have bigger boxes) and Clipper sleepy time tea.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)

i find Bassett's a bit sweet and floral(?) for me, i like my chewy jelly products to have more zing

Driving Drone for Christmas (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 December 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)

Oh F and three boxes of maldon salt.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)

xpost I found these amazing gummies in Hawaii called Hula Keiki (hula kids) that are covered in li hing mui powder (sour plum). They are so, so great. Better than regular sour patch.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:34 (seven years ago)

the smell from that Haribo factory in Pontefract was pretty similar to the ICI on Leeds Rd iirc. Seriously, you'd think they were making acrylics or pesticide or something, not sweets. Still will eat Haribo assorted jelly packs to the death, and usually do when there is Halloween leftovers. Once you start it is hard to stop.

calzino, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:43 (seven years ago)

It's really the only candy that I buy/like/love.

Yerac, Friday, 28 December 2018 21:56 (seven years ago)

two weeks pass...

Why is “Polka mix” called Polka mix? It’s got licorice, licorice filled with sweet gunk, licorice sandwiches, licorice coils, gummy flowers, gummy guitars, gummy butterflies, and gummy treble clefs (denoting “music notes” for non-musicians), and little pink candies shaped like eggs or rocks.

Isn’t licorice a dutch thing? Maybe the flowers are tulips? But isn’t polka from eastern europe?
