Speaking of Ferris Bueller , it turns out FERRIS HONORS THE FIRE! In a tiny snippet, Ferris is seen parping tunelessly on a clarinet (just before bolding proclaiming, "Never Had one Lesson!). In the background hangs the poster from the 12" single of Killing Joke's "Kings & Queens." FACT!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 2 March 2003 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony Michael Hall

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 2 March 2003 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god. Now I'm going to have to put on Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This is not good, I'm supposed to be doing a midterm for polisci and an essay for L&R. Instead I am honoring the fire. Fuck.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 2 March 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Charlie Sheen in Ferris?

Frank Whaley (again, peripherally)

Heidel Bone, Sunday, 2 March 2003 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Frank Whaley.....erstwhile drummer of fantabulously rocktastic local NYC band, The Niagras!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 2 March 2003 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god. Now I'm going to have to put on Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

As well everyone should, on a semi-regular basis. Not constant, though, that's overindulgence.

Among other things, Ferris also loved Cab Voltaire and the Sisters of Mercy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 March 2003 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember the Cabaret Volatire poster, but not the Sisters. He also had a Simple Minds poster and a Bryan Ferry poster. Bit of an Anglophile, our Ferris.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 March 2003 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

John Cryer, who starred in 'Pretty in Pink', and later in 'Went to Coney Island on a Mission From God... Be Back By Five', where one of his Brat-Pack co-stars was Frank Whaley. I've never seen the film, but imagine it may be the peripheral Brat-Pack equivalent to DeNiro and Pacino in 'Heat'.

Tanis, Monday, 3 March 2003 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I nearly confused C. Thomas Howell with former ECW person CW Anderson there. Not sure why.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 3 March 2003 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kevin Bacon and Patrick Swayze, perhaps some of the most succesful post the era. (Matthew Broderick was alluded to, of course, and he too has been one of the most succesful). Those who've perhaps been most succesful, in order:

1)Tom Cruise
2)Brad Pitt
3)Julia Roberts
4)Kevin Bacon
5)Keanu Reeves
6)Sean Penn
7)Demi Moore
8)John Cusack
9)Matthew Broderick
10)Timothy Hutton
11)Robert Downey Jr.
12)Matt Dillon
13)James Spader

Under used:

1)Patrick Dempsey
2)Molly Ringwald
3)Iian Mitchell-Smith
4)Chris Makepeace

Brit-Packers:
1)Hugh Grant
2)Daniel Day-Lewis
3)Rupert Everett
4)Kristin Scott Thomas
5)Ralph Fiennes
6)Jeremy Irons (possibly)
7)Dexter Fletcher
8)Julian Sands
9)Rupert Graves
10)James Wilby

Keither Sutherland

Owen, Monday, 3 March 2003 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Donovan Leitch

Keen Filter, Monday, 3 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

If Johnny Depp is allowed then we'll have to have Richard Grieco!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Donovan Leitch seems a bit too young to be a Brat Packer, no?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Martha Plimpton and Leaf (Joaquin) Phoenix - both in Running on Empty.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew McCarthy
Patrick Dempsey for "Can't Buy Me Love" one of the greatest movies ever.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Should Brad Pitt be allowed?

chris (chris), Monday, 3 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael J. Fox, surely!

Max, Monday, 3 March 2003 17:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Charlie Estevez and Emilio Sheen surely!

oops (Oops), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Charlie, Emilio and Patrick D and Andrew McC have all been mentioned before. Do your research kids!

I learned my lesson after repeating Corey Feldman (although I spelled it correctly so maybe that was allowed?)

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

definitely Nic Cage - has he been mentioned?

jam, Monday, 3 March 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Robert Sean Leonard

ablutions, Monday, 3 March 2003 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

He wasn't really a Brat-Packer though, was he? If he was we'd have to start including people like Ethan Hawke. When we stretch the boundaries ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOOSE.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

They've already been stretched pretty far ... this is the first I've heard "Brat Pack" used to refer to actors beyond the original coinage of "the stars of Breakfast Club and St Elmo's Fire."

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 3 March 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought I knew who the Brat Pack were until I read this thread. Now I have no idea.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 18 March 2006 14:40 (twenty years ago)

oh wow alex was right theres a killing joke poster right there

nervous (cochere), Saturday, 18 March 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Could Annie Potts be considered an honorary Brat Packer via her costarring turn in Pretty In Pink? She was fabulous as Andie's (Molly Ringwald's character's) co-worker and guiding light. I remember when she let Andie use her old prom dress and Andie deconstructed it to make something totally, uniquely her. I also remember Duckie, i.e. Jon Cryer, and I think the highlight of Andrew McCarthy's career was playing the "he's so good-looking but he's also got a weird name" character of Blaine. "Blaine? You're going out with a guy named Blaine?" And remember Harry Dean Stanton as Andie's alcoholic father? And James Spader as King Jerk? I need to play this movie NOW.

(Picking one Brat Packer? Today I pick Jon Cryer, because no matter what he does in life, he is and always will be The Duckman. Cue shoe shimmy now.)
