I had food poisoning on Friday night, and couldn't enjoy Blusher properly. I did not like the haircut that I got on Saturday morning. The food poisoning resurfaced so I didn't get to help my friend move. The fight that I picked with Horton over the article was ultimately unsatisfying and even though I know I'm in the right, I don't feel any better cause it's destroyed what small friendship we had. Rehearsal was lackluster and kind of boring. And I didn't get any writing done at all.
But Kosmische was great, and The Adorable Soundman let me touch his hair. He's got a suededhead now, and it's really soft.

apart from a glorious (ahem) victory for Liverpool yesterday, other highlights included:
The Jackass movie (should win every Oscar going)
Possibly the best Curry I have ever had
Drinks with marvellous people on three occasions.
I feel a little fragile today but hell, it was worth it.

friday. there was the kompakt night, text from ambrose to see if i was going. i ummed, i aahed, i made all kind of strange noises, but in the end i decided i really needed sleep. i got 16 hours of it!
saturday. spent most of the day pottering about, ate quite a lot of biscuits and bagels and drank tea, and spent more time planning and plotting my May deep south trip and, ok you got me, looking at maps, well...you know! saturday night was jeff mills at a warehouse in docklands, but no one was going, i was still tired, etc etc etc. i had to pop into the stock exhange to sort something out at 10pm, so i did that, and then back home to bed
sunday. walked half the circle line, kings cross-farringdon-barbican-moorgate-liverpool street-aldgate-tower hill-monument-cannon street-mansion house-blackfriars-temple-embankment-westminster-st james park-victoria. then bought mike davis city of quartz book about los angeles, dropped into ed and suzys for tea on the way home. and another early night.

(The only issue I can see is the fact that there are two threads rather than just one. Dating the thread would make it exclusive to that weekend and therefore cut down on its lifecycle, non?)

Went and saw the citibank prize at the photographer's gallery and Bob and Roberta Smith. We then had tea with my dad.
Sunday, pottered around the house. Made Suzy and Kate Bubble and Squeak with scrambled eggs for breakfast. Cleaned the kitchen and did some hoovering. Cooked chicken roast potatos and broccoli for suzy and gareth.
Went back to Sheffield. My train was very late and what's more I got to the bus stop just as my bus was pulling away but it had no number on the back so I didn't run for it. I had to wait 30mins for the next one. Pissed off with Midland Mainline and First Buses.

Saturday I was at Archel's Sinister picnic (as were at least three others who post herein, go on, fess up, especially the SNORER) in Brighton, and I didn't fall in the sea! My DDR skeelz are improving too, though my ability to drink lots two days running is deteriorating with every passing month.
Sunday saw a greasy breakfast, a drive back to London, and an all-encompassing exhaustion that prevented anything of any use being accomplished.

mum is tremendously obviously better, which is nice: still easily tired, but way better colour and not as bit breathless
hilarious but also sad time had by all — funny pictures and stuff drawn and written by me and becky back when we were wee (eg my poster-paint masterpiece aged three: "lady with bloodshot eyes — mummy she's called"), but also letters from people and photos of pets long dead. eg mum on a photo of herself age 14 diving — very dramatically — into a swimming pool: "look! i was SPLENDID!"
mum is even worse at filing than me, and if you give her something — the instruction manual to the wasdhing machine, say — and say "keep this in a sensible place", she takes it out of the room and puts it down on the nearest available surface, to deal with later (ie five years later)

Saturday, couldn't manage to ever wake up. Well that's not true. Managed to sleep most of the day away, though. Went to Jen's party and had a great time. JBR, Matos, Maura, Mary, rosemary, Andy but no Geeta! Dang! And I even managed to finish her No New York CD too. Oh well. It still ruled.
Sunday spent most of the day hanging out at home, chilled. Went out to dinner and a Guy Maddin movie (Twilight of the Ice Nymphs) with a very nice young lady, then had drinks with her and her friends 'til way too early in the morning, stumbled home. That ruled too.
To sum up: all in all it was a rulin' weekend (no rulers though).

Sat was Ladytron, fun fun, tho the eve started badly because we got there early to see Outhud on my insistence and they cancelled. Since this is Mpls my friends and I were about the only ones dancing (I can't overstate how oppressive this is). They hung around the club afterwards and my inept but k-handsome best friend chatted with one of the frontwomen, he was so proud of himself!
Sun hung out with a friend and tried to imagine what US life would look like if war sends world economy into freefall, 30s stylee. "hmm what would being on a breadline with everyone you know be like?"

Saturday: Blew off all plans to stay in and rest due to upcoming Sunday concert. Also helped nurse wife through flu/cold (U+K because she'd been performing opera scenes Thu and Fri and needed to be well by Sun for concert/solo quartet). Had mini-email argument with neighbors over our habit of waiting to get the Sunday paper until after church.
Sunday: Sang in church choir ($$$ YAY I LOVE MY SECOND JOB). Went to Harvard Square and lunched at THE KONG. Sang a concert (solo quartet with wife/alto/tenor/me in Bach motet went AMAZINGLY WELL; my wife has a GORGEOUS GORGEOUS VOICE). Ate dinner afterwards with friends, then went home and fixed wife's PalmPilot HotSync problem.
All in all, it was very good.

Sunday: cooked scrambled tofu, headed up to Columbia, spent four or five hours working on a drawing that I'm not at all happy with, revised a piece I wrote a year ago for an anthology that's going to come out one of these years, had dinner with Lisa in Williamsburg, answered emails, did a little more writing, took songs I'm sick of off my iPod.

Best friend came over, made old school hip hop cd before wife came home from work. Drank a lot of beer and played Scrabble. Wife kicked ass in both games. Went to bed around 2am.
Sunday: Woke up to smells of wife cooking, bacon, eggs, toast and corned beef hash. Ate breakfast, went to grocery store and rented some movies. "Road to Perdition" good flick, sad. And "Italian For Beginners", horrid. Watched Six Feet Under, went to sleep.

friday: last day at database-wrangling temp job, LONGEST JOB INTERVIEW EVER (alas, it was pretty much a bust), dumplings for dinner, met up with joe to see the very excellent ikara colt at maxwell's (which was being videotaped by the local cbs affiliate for a 'can you get out of these firetraps???' story), topped off the night by hearing the theme to 'taxi' on the radio as we crossed the 59th st bridge, surrounded by taxis.
saturday: woke up early, drove out to long island, gave birthday cards to my parents right before they left for vacation, ate sandwiches at a deli near joe's parents' house, went to a small italian restaurant in patchogue with joe and his parents, drove back to queens, perceived all-too-imminent clothing crisis in anticipation of socializing, ran into various people from my new york existence at jen nstop's party (aw douglas, i figured the subway might cause you problems when i heard the announcements at queensboro plaza), cabbed back to astoria with joe, hstencil and my roommate.
sunday: slept in, made tuna burgers and sweet potato fries for lunch, watched styx 'behind the music,' met up with high school friend of joe's at the white horse tavern, nearly purchased about five or six things at rockit scientist, met up with joe's brother at gray dog cafe, browsed selection at bookstore across the street from gray dog, subway back to queens, joe left, watched some law and order and spinoffs (robert chambers/central park jogger combo!!???!), went to bed late in order to miss the bulk of the 7am-noon heat and hot water-free period occasioned by super working on boiler this AM.

Also-Talked to my mom for a v v long time yesterday on the phone. Spent the whole time discussing my youngest sister (who is now in Paris) - her lieing, eating disorder, depression, possible hospitalization upon return, her accusing my mom of being a fat faillure to her face and going on to say she wants to be more like the evil step-mom... ARgh.. But it was a beautiful day out and I sat out on the deck for the first time in a long time as I talked on the phone. I let the kitties come out with me to play and they had a happy time exploring the old leaves collected in the corner. Think I cheered my mom up a bit too.

The ILXor contingent took control of the stereo (of course), and my party guests managed to consume just about all of my food, and most of my alcohol (impressive!). Though I over-imbibed, leading me to retire a bit earlier than usual.
Happy suprise: waking up the next day to see that a bunch of my guests had actually cleaned up a bit, as my apartment was in not quite as bad a state as I'd assumed. Yay, friends!
Sunday was spent doing not a helluva lot. Water, rest, goofing off on the computer, and avoiding the alcoholic fumes emanating from my kitchen sink.

Friday: worked 8 hours as temp then 5 hours at record store. I was at the register, which sux compared to sitting in the back at the record desk. i think i read some magazines, but nothing important. there were, however, some ruse customers, and yes, i did work for 13 hours! i went home and head mixed grens with olive oil and balsamic and crashed.
saturday: slept in until 11:55 and went to work at the record store again from 12:30 to 8:00. there were a lot of tourists and i cashed 3 $100 bills during the day, and I read the economist as well. my dad picked me up and we ate indian. chicken curry and onion kulcha/nan, plus a maharaja beer. i then went home, checked email, watched tv (iron chef), and then listened to "let the music play" by shannon on my headphones about 10 or 15 times in a row.
sunday: woke up late, cleaned my room, met my friend in DC for more Indian food (chicken vindaloo) and went to a jazz show... the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble with Kahil El'Zabar (percussion, kalimba, vocals), Ari Brown (reeds, piano, percussion) and Ernest Dawkins (reeds, percussion). All are members of AACM. Local legend Vatel Cherry sat in at the end for a stellar rendition of "Miles' Mode" It was easily the best jazz show I have ever seen (and I have been to a few), especially the last song of the first set, which involved both horn players playing two horns at the same time. after the show, which ended at 11:30, we got, as my friend likes to say, metro-fucked. we were given the wrong information about where to transfer to catch the last trains (yes DC metro closes at 11:30!) and so we ended up taking a bus and the walking for half an hour. got back to his place at 1:30, crashed on the couch at 2:30am, got up at 6:30am, took metro home to shower, made it to work on time at 9:00. i have since had four cups of coffee, all badly needed.(funny how this is one of the longer posts on the thread and yet i worked th whole weekend... sorry)

Saturday night: After the long day, I suddenly got the urge to listen to a lot of the 80s synth pop of my childhood, and spent some time playing with LimeWire; I don't usually bother with the P2P stuff, but it was perfect for this task. Also at some point I was drawn into some ILX chat, which was festive.
Sunday: Slept, slept, slept, then a friend came over and we listened to how the recording of the sound poetry festival we had last week came out (pretty good!); then a lot of sitting around (downloading a few more hits, but starting to reach the bottom of the particular barrel I was interested in) until finally my roommate and I went food shopping. Later, I slept.

Saturday: Cleaned the house (was in a nesting mood); sent Glenn away to be gamer geek with other gamer geeks; David came over and we cuddled, then went to get dinner, came back to watch "Cracker" and I fell asleep on the floor wiht my head on his leg - he then put me to bed and rubbed my back until I was asleep again.
Sunday: Completely lazy - did manage to get a whole pile of handwritten letters finished and into the envelopes and such, but forgot to take them to the mailbox *sigh*. Sent Glenn away to game, again. (And called the wife of the gamer geek he was going to visit to apologize for his presence in her home two days in a row - she says she's sending her husband here next weekend.) Sunday - Met some friends at My New Favorite Restaurant (Cafe Atlantic in Pasadena) and ate a lot of amazing food. Record shopped at Amoeba (picked up the new Pram and the remaster of Roxy's Siren both used). Went to Black Market Music and drooled over a Farfisa Compact Duo for about a half-hour and contemplated buying an Ibanez UE-405 until sanity pointed out that I really need to save my money and that picking up a new microphone was make more sense than yet another effects unit. Friday I developed a cold. Friday night started with farewell drinks for much-loved work manager who'd been given the arse inexplicably. Then I went to my cuddlebuddy's house and dragged him back to my place to eat dinner.
Saturday morning, up early to clean up (with cuddlebuddy's assistance - what a guy he is) because new flatmate was moving in, yay! Flatmate arrived, moving in was a breeze as she had very little stuff.
Saturday night me and flatmate were kidnapped off to cuddlebuddy's place for an impromptu four-person mini techno night which involved us girls being entertained by the boys playing jazz, deep house and hard trance rekkids while we oohed and ahhed and boinged round lots, and decided that for my birthday we *must* have a party with mirror balls and house music. That was really ace. I smoked too much and made my cold worse.
Sunday I slept lots due to feeling even more hideously ill. Sunday afternoon, got unexpected visit from ESOJ who came over to give me a copy of the Tugboat album, so I finally got to listen to it, yay! I was very very impressed (which seemed to please Jim hehe).
Sunday night I got so hideously ill that I decided to call in sick the next day for work, so I did. I then completely lost my voice.
Blimey that was a big weekend.

Florida was like equal parts Vice City and the movie Major League. South Florida is straight out of the 80s, with the min-mall signs with one word of a store in pink block letters on a white grid with the second name of the store scribbled on top in aqua script.
We drove around in our rented convertible and watched Tom Glavine's Mets debut, Juan Pierre steal a base and stretch two singles into doubles, Woody Williams (missed the return of Rick Ankiel), the fine young arms of the Marlins, and crushed on Tony Clark. He is very tall! I wore bnw out with my constant test message updates. The Cards/Marlins spring facility is nicer than half the regular season parks I've been to.
Auntie was sweet and so happy we visited. We looked at photo albums of ancestors I've never seen before and she insisted I take the unused ibuprofin serum to New York to see if it can help anyone. I missed my original flight due to poor signage on I-95 but got on the next flight, one cinnamon roll later.

During the day Sat I worked on revising a paper. As well I went into the library at school and did some readings for my popular music course. As well, I finished editing my recordings from my recital. In the evening met H and B and B's friends at the dance cave at Lee's Palace. Talked, danced, etc.
Sun I finished up revising the paper. Went out with H and B to an avant/improv night at Oasis. Was in this weird un-heated room. They were giving out for free all these records and CDs of Canadian experimental music from the 80s and 90s.

When I got back I found there was a huge impromptu party going on, at my place. I ended up getting quite ratted and joining in on vocals with the makeshift band we put together. Badly. By the end of the party there were apparently girls flashing in the front room, but I'd long since passed out by then, annoyingly.
On Saturday I lay around during the day and listened to the football, before heading up to the legendary Uncle Bob's Wedding Reception in King's Cross, where there was much drinking, much dancing and wearing of silly hats. At one point I scissor kicked my way right across the front of the room to the sound of Ace of Spades by Motorhead, and everyone applauded, but I landed badly and twisted my ankle. I carried on dancing on it though, and by the end of the night we were all quite gone. I think at some point in the night I attempted to give a male friend of mine a lovebite for no reason whatsoever, thankfully he saw the funny side. On the way home I overrid on the night bus as usual and had to walk all the way from Marble Arch to Trafalgar Square. I was glad I did though, because I got chatting to an Australian girl I met on the way home and ended up going back to her place in SW London. Then I had to spend the next morning pretending to be one of her gay workmates so her flatmates wouldn't ask any questions. I'm not sure how convincing I was. I then went back home and after a couple of hours sleep took the incredibly poor decision of going to the pub to watch the Worthington Cup final, which just about finished me off, especially as I was feeling fluey at the same time.
Then we came home and found out they were raising our rent, and that two housemates might have to move out. So we went back to the pub again and drowned our sorrows and proceeded to come home and play NOISE until 2am. R0x0r.
