drop the name of champions of good eating: cooks, philosophers, theoricians, artists, critics etc

ps the question will get out of sight before I get around posting my answer

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Julia Child, still going at 92. Intelligent, witty, passionate; likes her food rich, fatty and French. Revolutionized the postwar American palate with her TV shows/books in the '60s.

Obvious, but MFK Fisher has to be up there. Terrific writing on all things that end up in your stomach. Most things.

Colin M. Saunders, Tuesday, 4 March 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

My ex-boss, the fabulous Monsieur Raymond Blanc.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin is up there.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Monday, 17 March 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually ate dinner across the room from Paul Bocuse once (yeah, big famous chef, etc). But I know fuck all about him.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 17 March 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Marinetti for sure!! I am not sure I would have wanted to eat many of his creations tho -- but his drink recipes were pretty good!!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 March 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Ed, I worked for RB at Le Manoir. The man is a genius, and taught me much :)

C J (C J), Monday, 17 March 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I am envious. I could never cook professionally, ( I couldn't take the late nights) but I'm envious of anyone who has that kind of opportunity to learn.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I was his Public Relations Manager, Ed. I didn't actually work in the kitchens, but the two of us spent many happy hours there together while he experimented with new recipes (and I took frantic notes, passed ingredients to him, and ducked when he became volatile and started throwing knives around). I was also his 'guinea-pig' when we were compiling his cook books - he would often ask me to cook a dish, to see if the instructions were easy to follow etc (and I would have to serve it to him for lunch). Happy days.

jonathon gold writes about cheap ethnic food for the la weekly, la times, and others. very adventurous palate, writes well. also edited la weekly music section back when it was readable.

dan (dan), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, Mr. Gold -- a personal hero of most LA area ILXors, I would guess.

What would you ask Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall? I'm supposed to interview him sometime soon.

i just saw that anthony bourdain show for the first time. he seems...... kinda cool. his wikipedia profile makes him batali's only rival in bacchanalia.

what other cooking show has a parental warning before it?

poortheatre, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

Alton Brown is a minor hero.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

a friend of mine has been watching a lot of gordon ramsay shows - they probably have parental warnings...

I'd ask him if there was one incredibly unhealthy prepackaged foodstuff he could eat without guilt, what one would it be? He can't be THAT wholesome.

I'd also ask him if he ever feels like taking on a Jamie-style national campaign, and if so, which one.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, that's helpful.
