Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it really a long night out if it runs on more than 24 hours, or at that point, does it become just sort of a lost weekend? Cause honestly, the longest night out I ever had was a two-week tour. Which is NOTHING compared to some rock'n'rollers.

kate, Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i think a night out ends the minute there is any sleep, even if it is only an hour or so. if you wake up and start again=it is the next night, not the same one.

so, probably 72 hours

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Inspired by an episode of Pete and Pete, I once stayed up without the assistance of any substances except for a box of jolly rancher's for 6 days in an attempt to break the world record for staying up. When the auditory hallucinations became unbearable, I decided to go see a movie. When the lights went up, the ushers nearly called an ambulance because it was so difficult to wake me.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

probably 'til about 1am. I'm lame, I like being lame, I hope to always remain so.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Going more than 24 hours without sleep is a colossal dud whatever you're doing in the meantime. There's a lot to be said by punctuating lost weekends with five-hour naps.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Also the obvious yet so-far overlooked point that if you are drinking during the day it is not a night out.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

in terms of a long night out, i did 12 hours recently (mostly in the company of Ronan and Gareth) which was quite a rarity for me now - i mean you can't do longer than that because then it becomes more than just a long night out

went to a few all night raves in the past, and things like Tribal Gathering and Homelands where i was up for over 24 hours but of course that went from 9am until 9am next morning so no different from getting up in the morning and going out at night and not going to sleep until the following morning

i cannot function beyond 24 hours with no sleep, probably not even on drugs

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i cannot function beyond 24 hours with no sleep, probably not even on drugs

scratch that, i managed about 35 when my final year coursework deadline hit - i drank 5 or 6 cans of Red Bull and my hands were shaking all next day

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve have you seen the Homelands lineup? It's the usual ohmigodtheyhaveeveryone, I'm tempted to go but then again it's a real brain mash cos you're drunk and a bit messy and working out who to go and see is like doing complicated 50 line maths equations, "if Laurent Garnier is on for 3 hours while Jeff Mills is on for 2 and a half at 7, what is the radius of the Streets and Derrick Carter", last year I found it a bit maddening and enjoyed Irish Creamfields thing more cos there was only one good arena and I could just hang there for the whole day.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

technically, the longest night out you can have is around December 20th, which is the shortest day.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, yeah Homelands '99 i was a bit like that, but the only people i can remember seeing were the Chems and Underworld who were both excellent i thought (mainly cos they were premiering their new albums)

havent seen the Homelands line-up, its probably a bit obscured by huge logos for ORANGE, LUCOZADE, BACARDI and BBC RADIO ONE isnt it?

i really want to go to Coachella, partly cos it would involve going to California but also the line-up is right up my alley

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

heh, my longest night was just after Christmas, I went to see Tim Deluxe, left my house about 7 and got home at about 9 the next night. It was also one of the best nights I've ever had, I spent 135 euro though. I do 12 hour nights most Saturdays, they really take it out of you though, not easy by any means.

(Homelands people that I can remember:the streets, chemical brothers, missy, groove armada, dave clarke, jeff mills, jon carter, plump djs, cassius, justin robertson, dj marky, 2 many djs, grandmaster flash, erol alkan, dexter, dj food, ali b, green velvet, slam, umek, christian smith, timo maas, derrick carter, audio bullys)

not bad eh?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i have stayed up very late a number of times, mostly at college, and mostly due to academic concerns. since i went to school near boston and boston clubs close at 2am, most of my clubbing did not involve any feats of stamina.

I did, however, go to Vinyl in NYC once to see Danny Tenaglia. I had gotten up relatively early that day. WE got to the club at 12am, AKA very early for NYC, and stayed until 10am the next morning, and then drove back to CT and went to bed at maybe 1 or 2 pm for just a couple of hours. The night sucked, however, because:
1. danny Tenaglia called in sick.
2. his replacement DJ played the exact same shitty dark tribal-tech-house record for all 10 hours (and i like dar tribal tech-house!).
3. I ran out of cigarettes within the second or third hour.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

after freefields (cheesily named free party on the same day as creamfields) two summers ago i got home at 11pm the next day, which is probably the longest ive ever stayed out without sleep...

robin (robin), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm always in bed, with my cocoa finished and night cap on, no later than ten thirty.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Done various all-nighters but mostly to do things like put radio station program guides together. Thrilling, I know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Once in college on a sunday night, we were up drinking and I had to be at the radio station monday at 5am for my morning show. Needless to say, I skipped all classes when my show ended.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

um i was up for 24 hours.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurm. Lemme think.

I've driven for almost 25 hours straight, but i'm not sure that constitutes a night out.

Relatively regular outings until 4-5am in my college days (and by regular, i mean every fortnight or so.) Longest ever was probably into 10 or so the next morning. Was a total wreck afterwards.

If we count catnaps, i've gone almost 3 days. I wouldn't recommend it. Even with an hour or two of sleep, things begin to start feeling like most Spacemen 3 albums sound.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you hear about those crazy guys who're walking 1000 miles in 1000 hours, 1 mile per hour?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

That's impossible, surely?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

1,000 miles in 1,000 hours

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

NB:

They will take the route of the London Marathon across London. They are due to finish at 8am on the morning of the London Marathon, April 13th, by which time they will have been around the course more than 38 times!

They will then take part in the Marathon itself, and if they can complete that 26 mile course one more time they will win a cash bonus.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

lumme...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

When I moved from Edmonton in '94, I got up on a Thursday morning at about 10, helped a buddy move from the south end of Edmonton to St. Albert (he also had stuff in storage in the extreme east end of Edmonton) until about 9 pm, then drove all night to Regina where I found out that my friend Sean wanted a ride to Brandon, but he wouldn't be getting off until 6pm (it was 9 am when I found this out). So I waited until 6 when he got off, then we went for supper until 7:30, then drove to Brandon (got there shortly before 11 pm). Of course I was too wound up to sleep, but I finally drifted of at about 1:30 am, 42 hours (accounting for time changes) from when I woke up. Not too impressive, I guess, except for that I drove 1,150 km in that time as well.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

a person can walk about 5 miles in an hour, so there'd be time to rest!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

48 hours or so, I think. That was when I was much younger, of course. I haven't gone even a full 24 hours in years.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Four days; on the third day sleep deprivation hallucinations started. NO drugs just coffee. I was helping my friend in medical school who was studying sleep deprivation. It can get fairly strange after two days.

s samson, Tuesday, 4 March 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

atp 2001 *shudder*

chris (chris), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Left for Halifax on Friday despite not knowing anyone in the city at that time. Thanks to Halifax's kind and plentiful Tim Horton's I managed to not sleep till I got back to bagtown on Sunday evening when I had a beer to try and stop my coffee twitches during a DMST, GYBE (and others) show. Right near the end of GYBE my head hit the table pretty hard Im told. I woke up ten minutes later and went home crashed for the next 6 hours woke up ready and raring to go for Monday classes. My stomach wasn't so kind to me for the next few days though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Bowlie. Didn't go to bed at all on the Saturday, spent Saturday night on a beach with Ally C. and some other folk and was suffering very much for it the next day (as in I fell asleep in the pub after belle and sebastian had been on)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Forty eight hours at a stretch during a student exchange trip to Berlin in 1996. It took three days to approach being anywhere near able to go back to the school I was attending and months before I could talk above a hushed croak.

No, I cannot remember what happened.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 11:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably when I was up till 11am, which isn't very hardcore, I know. I was awake for 20 hours on Sunday, having got up for work at 6.30am and made it home after pub at 2.30am ish. Wasn't feeling too great by this point.Levels of vodka in system didn't help.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Getting in at like 9am is the best I can do, although that includes waiting for trains and getting home. And does having a night out during beign awake for 48 hours count? I'm not sure how much "night out" has to count towards this.
