Hahaha have you seen this website?

Amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Who hasn't?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:01 (twenty-three years ago)

(Play along, Jody.)

Amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Gatecrasher - Classic or Dud?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

How are everyone's office preparations for the Millennium Bug going? I think our mainframe person has arranged for the office to be blown to kingdom come, judging by what's happened to my Windows 95 OS.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

(Play along, Jody.)

But it's so 1998!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure it'll be fine, Felicity. It's just a ruse made up by bored hacks killing time until they can start sipping champagne with Al and Tipper Gore in the White House this time next year. Mark my words.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:10 (twenty-three years ago)

This looks promising. Anyone have any stock tips?

Amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

That reminds me . . . Does anyone know of any good leads for jobs in business development for B-to-B Internet start-ups or web portal websites? I know nothing about computers but some of these sites are getting like a million hits a day! I really want a job where I can fly around entertaining potential clients and get paid in IPO stock options. haha, cash is for suckers!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Put all your money in Superconductor Technologies, ticker SCON. They make these, um, superconductor things. It's like, alternative energy or something. The wave of the future!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Sod that, buy shares in Manchester United - won the treble this season (but Spurs cleaned up the rest), and I can't see anyone touching them for years to come. Except perhaps Leeds - they've got a good young squad with potential.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:23 (twenty-three years ago)

*sigh* Those were the days.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 09:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Have you guys downloaded the trailer for 'The Phantom Menace' yet? That's going blow 'The Empire Strikes Back' out of the water!

*cries*

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Sod that, I'm hiring a van and taking all my mates down to Cornwall to see the eclipse. Three days of lying in the sun, getting off my tits, dancing around and then seeing the cosmic event of the century, man.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 11:30 (twenty-three years ago)

On a completely different note, I wonder where Sacha Baron Cohen got his inspiration for Borat?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is Sacha Baron Cohen and what is this Borat of which you speak?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

http://internettrash.com/users/onceuponatime/cay2.jpg

Man, Cay are such a great band! With all this press excitement about them, they can't fail to make it big! It's such a great time for music as well, one may even say that the music scene is "dark", as opposed to "dry". Ultrasound, Gay Dad, Regular Fries, Astrid, and, of course, the awesome New Radicals!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Sacha Baron Cohen is the chap responsible for Ali G. Borat is another of his characters. He's an eastern European TV presenter who makes an arse of himself by way of not understanding the cultural differences between his homeland and the UK. He is not unlike Millat and he speaks as Millat writes.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I have heard of this Ali G character, though Borat is unknown to me? Are you a time-travelling visitor from the future Lara?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, Ali G. Isn't the Eleven O'Clock Show crap?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

So has anybody got some interesting plans for they're going to do to celebrate the millennium?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

And don't give me any of that 'the real millennium is 2001' crap, cos you've lost the argument.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone thinking of applying for the Big Brother thing Channel 4 are advertising for?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

He plays a character called Borat, who comes from Khazakstan from a poor family. Borat (Ali G) changes his voice and really comes across different than Ali G. Borat plays dumb more than Ali G because he has the excuse of being from another country and not being able to understand or speak proper English. Borat has his own TV show on E4 (which is a really good channel by the way) and I think it is really funny, the stuff he comes out with just wants to make you wet yourself. (It’s true, believe me.

http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/movies/movies_vhs/ali_g_aiii/_review/184265/

I hope this is not the future of TV journalism.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought about it, but I reckon it'll be a flop. We're not like America you know!

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I shot Jill Dando.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

It's Nick-in-the-Box!!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You know something, though? Despite all the stick they get, I think the Nevilles will come good for Euro 2000.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that Keegan is building a good team spirit and shows signs of maturing tactically speaking.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

The Blair Witch Project looks really scary!

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I really think my next relationship is going to work out.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, is that one of those mobile phones?

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

You're right about Keegan Dave, but the FA needs to build for the future more. If you ask me, Brian Robson is making great strides as a manger, he really should be groomed as the next boss now.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Woops, I forgot I'm in a happy relationship that I think will go the distance. Nothing's gonna break us up, oh no!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that the 2 years of sticking to Tory spending limits is over, I think New labour will reveal its radical core and start to make efforts in shoring up the doubters on the left of the party by putting in place some genuinely redistributive policies and starting to change the tone of the their language on issues such as asylum.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm rich! Rich, I tell you!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham, where have you been the last five years?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom - they really should plan ahead - there's something of a dearth of English managerial talent really. If Keegan ever quit (he's done it before after all!), they'd have to choose between Bobby Robson and Terry Venables as they're the only people who'd meet the job spec really.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm rich! Rich, I tell you!

I've got a funny feeling about this one, Andrew. I think you should sell now and buy a house/plane/yacht?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick - leave Graham alone. Those mobile thingies have been around, but more and more of my mates are getting them and I'm feeling left out. It's like they've gone over the tipping point or something.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I got one the other day and it came with a free rucksack for re-charger!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I really think Owen Hart's wrestling career is about to take off...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you should sell now

No, I might as well sell them all at the same time. Only two more years and I can retire. Nice.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

What ever happened to Shaggy?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

God, gouse prices are getting ridiculous in London. I could just about afford a crappy one bed place in Stoke Newington still. I'm going to leave it a couple of years I think - the market is bound to have crashed by then. Yeah, I'll just leave my money in the stock market. I know the dotcom thing is a bubble but blue chip stuff's a pretty safe bet.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I've passed the age when I'll ever live in London; there was a time once, but it's the North West for me now. I like Lancaster, but might move to Manchester perhaps.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

What does "Blue Da Be Dee Da Be Da" mean?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you mean goose, Nick? You could be less picky and just buy a Morphy Richard's model from John Lewis?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

You know, when the bombing raids have got rid of Slobodan Milosevic once and for all, I think the Muslim world will realise all the good the West has done for them in Kosovo, it might lead to a new, more harmonious and peaceful world after all, especially with the Oslo Agreement holding up and all that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Have Al-Queda jumped the shark with that USS Cole thing?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I saw a piece on Newsnight saying that George Bush's son is thinking of running for the Republican nomination. As if!

Doesn't matter though; the Clinton economic legacy will see Gore home I reckon.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I was talking to one of my schoolfriends Nick. I read in the paper that like, kids as young as 14 are getting them now. Madness I tell you.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I think I might not even vote in 2000 -- it will be Gore in a landslide, the way the economy is going. What difference could a single vote make, anyway?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the thing though, Clinton's legacy is long lasting. I mean, his record on gun control is impeccable. It's not as if a couple of, I dunno, Goths could go running around their high school spraying their fellow students with bullets.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Brian Robson is making great strides as a manger

So that's the final nativity of the millenium cast, then.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

WAZZUP??

felicity (felicity), Friday, 7 March 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

And then she says, "And there was this one time, at bandcamp,..."

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

This friend of mine bought one of those pricey DVD player things, but I don't reckon they'll ever really take off, they'll be like betamax and die. Looks nice, but.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 7 March 2003 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

And WAP, dude! Way of the future. You should check it out, everyone's getting it.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 7 March 2003 00:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Holy shit, with Napster and a T1 I'm downloading like 10 albums a day. Music has finally been FREED!

Aaron A., Friday, 7 March 2003 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Yo', dude, pick up the phone!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 7 March 2003 01:41 (twenty-three years ago)

How cool is this guy?!!

http://www.commando.com/flat%20eric.gif

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm thinking of starting a music website cos alt.music.alternative's getting a bit rubbish. Also let's face it I'm spending far too much time posting messages on newsgroups and it would be really good to have something which was just stand-alone and didn't waste so much of my time.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

It'll never happen! Er.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

So has anybody heard of this Harry Potter thing? The first couple of books sold pretty well. Are they any good?

robster (robster), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

It's odd how our idea of a party is bogus futurology.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 7 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...
Speaking of party, "The Rockafeller Skank" by Fat Boy Slim is really catchy! I can't imagine getting tired of hearing it.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, um, five years is pretty good testimony to that.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't do this anymore. I've been drinking vodka tonics constantly all week and I can't get a withdrawal from that fucking 8:00 am English Lit class, so my GPA is going in the shitter. I don't think I'm coming back to college after this semester. I'm still crushing on Molly from the coffee shop. She's a dream. Hopeless.

Maybe in the fall I'll enlist in the Air Force, they can help me out. That might be just what I need. I need to get away from all of this, that's for sure.

I wish my roommate would stop snoring every night.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh, no job, no girlfriend, still living at home, hardly ever see my old friends anymore cos they work nights...

sorry, whats this thread about?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Toe nail biting.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you believe that Bush punk got reelected in Texas? He should count his blessings, I doubt his silver spoon is going to carry that dimwit any further.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

But he could probably sell it and buy a cheap car.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, coworkers, watch how much I can inhale!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

this is so 1999 (i.e., i got this in an e-mail in 1999)

http://www.weboffice.ethz.ch/jl/img/compihauen.gif

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that Coldplay single the other day - load of tedious sub-Buckley shite it is. They'll never get anywhere!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Man. . my girlfriend is HOTTTT. I need to get an 8 ball before we go to the clit club this weekend. Damn, I can't believe I've got a whole 'nother photo shoot to lay out at work. How many dumb, ironic, overpriced t-shirts can Delia's sell?

Hmm, wonder who's playing at the Rodeo Bar this weekend. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Man. . my girlfriend is HOTTTT. I need to get an 8 ball before the next Clit Club. Damn, I can't believe I've got a whole 'nother photo shoot to lay out at work. How many dumb, ironic, overpriced t-shirts can Delia's sell?

Hmm, wonder who's playing at the Rodeo Bar this weekend. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 07:16 (twenty-two years ago)

How in the hell did that post twice? My internet is fucked!! SO 1999!!!!!!

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Taking Sides - 'Remedy' vs 'Surrender' vs 'Beaucoup Fish' vs 'Middle Of Nowhere' vs 'Rhythm & Stealth'

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not sure what to do between uni and grad school. i know...i'll be a flight attendant!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(_Rhythm & Stealth_ and _Surrender_ lose, of course.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I'm gonna be a daddy in like 6 months! Have a cigar!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, me and Vicky have been together 6 months! I can see this one lasting...

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel like we're living in increasingly peaceful times by and large you know.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, me too! I was just thinking about how this new millenium feels like it could be the time humanity finally stops all the stupid warring and killing and I dunno it just feels like we're moving into some kinda new renaissance or something. < /drunk optimist>

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(note from THE FUTURE aka 2003...that part of me died Dec. 30th 1999 when, after 45-minutes of dry-heaving I finally scraped myself off the bathroom floor only to have someone bust in on me and puke ALL THE FUCK OVER ME)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the '80s. I really, really do. I don't think anything new will sweep me away as much as the '80s do. I lovelovelove that decade. I'm so tired of the '90s. Only Robbie Williams and Fatboy Slim intrigue me. I want this decade to be over already. I wish I was born ten years earlier so I could've taken advantage of the '80s. And what's all this "millennium" business? Don't people know that the new millennium won't actually start until 2001? Wow, can you imagine it, though? 2001. What will that year be like? Hopefully the next decade will see a return to the '80s. I'm sick of this decade's slavish devotion to the '70s. The '70s sucked. What else can you say about a decade whose colors might as well be brown, gold, and orange? I like neon and pastels. I love the '80s. I also love London. OMG, the trip, the trip! I wish I could live there. School aggravates me. It's so damn expensive and I don't feel like I fit in there. I wonder if the public university will be any good. I heard their buildings are beautiful. But where is it? I haven't driven that far out yet. Wow. I wonder if I can attempt to drive on a highway so I can actually take a look at it. Oh, I hear that Duran Duran are going to be in Dallas! I wonder how I can get there. I want to see them live in concert so badly. I think I can afford bus fare and a concert ticket. Rock! But what about accomodations? Hmm. Hope they'll play songs from Medazzaland. God I love that album. Simon, Nick, and Warren FOREVER! The '90s still suck, though. What's so good about being my age, anyway? Only thing I can do is brag about it to people who are older than me. God I wish I were 29. That would rock.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(Modern-day note: In 2001, someone said something to me that made me appreciative of my age and when I was born. Now I no longer feel as much of a pull to envy the teenagers of the '80s, even though I do still love that decade.)

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a 2 year old and a husband I don't like and who can't stand me, how the hell did this happen? I guess we're gonna get a divorce, and dammit, I didn't want that - I mean everyone in my family has been divorced and... shit. Well, I guess we all make the wrong decisions, huh? I can't believe I've had this same dumb job for 7 years now, 8 1/2 if you count when I worked here before South Carolina. I've got to get out of here and finish my degree. Maybe I'll go to New Orleans - Jenn and I went for Mardi Gras and we loved it then... I don't know what's going to happen with her, I worry so much - she may go to jail, she may not, and oh, I miss Robbie. I wonder if anything will ever change for the better? God I'm almost 27 - that seems so... OLD.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

so what is that "i want it that way" song about, anyway?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?!?!?!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)
